A Live Thanksgiving Weekend Report from Palazzo? Why not!!

The title says it all. I leave tonight for Vegas and a four night stay at Palazzo. The host is putting me up in the same suite (I think) that I was in a couple months ago and I got a nice dining credit so I can stuff myself with rich food. I'm solo this weekend, so I have planned a lot of solo stuff I enjoy doing. So follow along the next couple days if you enjoy reading about fancy dining, hiking and getting out in nature (I haven't settled on exactly where but I have a few options in mind), a long spa day at Canyon Ranch, a lot of fine dining, football wagering, shopping (both in the canal shops and the Venetian annual gift event), and a little casino gambling.

Not sure how much gambling I will do. Tomorrow is the day I have the least planned so i will likely do most of my gambling then. If I am well up after tomorrow, its possible I will shut it down. I am up for the year, still have two more trips to Vegas in 2021, and really want to end the year in the black. So hopefully no out of control sessions this weekend (or this month).

It took a bit of work, but I found an awesome deal on a rental car (less than thirty bucks for the day) so I definitely see hiking in my near future. I have always wanted to hike Fortification Hill, but I am not sure I have the legs for it. So I may end up just roaming around the Painted Pots area and check out the beach. We shall see. Or maybe I will head south and explor the open desert.

I confirmed all amenities are open at Canyon Ranch. So I am excited to spend a day there. i am anticipatig a busy weekend in Vegas. But from past Thanksgiving trips there, I have found high limit bac to be much busier than high limit BJ. So there may be more BJ than bac for me this weekend. Either way, I love the Palazzo HL room, so I will be in there quite a bit tomorrow. I have also decided I will resume an old habit of ordering strange or unique cocktails while gambling. I have one or two in mind that I might order, lol.

Following along. I’m interested in seeing where you end up hiking. I’m always looking for someplace new and haven’t heard of either place you mentioned.

Thanks! There will be a lot of pics after the hike. Both of those areas are in the Lake Meade NRA, on the Arizona side of the dam. If you fly into Vegas from the East (as I do), you can usually get a great view of Fortification Hill. It stands out because its the huge mesa-looking hill just east of the dam. Also, its an old volcanic hill, so it looks like black basalt from above. It really stands out. The hike is only about four miles in and out. but it rates as strenuous because of the elevation gain, there is a class 3 rock climb of about ten feet, and there really aren't any fantastic views until you reach the top. So I would hate to start the hike, poop out halfway, and not get any good views for my effort. A few years back, I would have crushed that kind of hike with ease without even thinking about it. These days, my legs tend to wear down before I hit three miles (and that's not even including the elevation or rock scramble). So its possible I could make it to the top and just take a lot of breaks on the way back down. But I will wait and see how I feel Friday morning.

The other area is basically the valley below Fortification Hill, with beaches along the lake. There aren't any really good designated trails I know of down there (other than hiking the dirt road that I intend to drive), but I wouldn't mind checking out the beach and just hiking/scrambling along the low hills there. Either way, it will be fun

 

The bags are packed. But my flight is the last out tonight, so still a lot of time to kill. Think I will go make a wager on the late ESPN game to watch it on the flight

Thanksgiving in LV is on my must-do list! Once work changes, I would be able to do it. Took some notes about that hike you have planned; the family would love that.

Just dropped my partner at the airport for her flight home. It was insane. I am headed back in an hour and hoping its a little less busy.

Probably because it’s getting late. Nevertheless, I am feeling some weird, generalized anxiety. No idea what that is about but hopefully it passes soon. Getting on the plane in just under an hour and arriving in Vegas just before midnight

Took off about a half hour late, but it looks like I will land right on time. Considering all the travel doom and gloom that was in the weather forecast a few days ago, I will take it!

 

Made a wager on the Warriors -10 before the flight. But it looked so bad half way through the second that I stopped watching. Just tuned in for the start of the fourth and I have a chance! 20% of the time, it works every time! So now I have that to watch for half an hour and kill some time
