Nevada Mask Mandate - Conditions, Compliance, and Enforcement

I've been in Vegas for around 24hrs now. A face shield with no mask has been accepted no questions asked at every casino I have been in - which is MGM/TI/Aria/Venetian/Mirage, along with every shop I have been in, including CVS/Walgreens/Target.

 

We did a 12 hour turnaround on Saturday at Cosmo and mask enforcement was about nonexistent. We forgot to put them on after dinner and were only reminded of them approaching the craps tables.

 

As long as you have a drink in your hand, no one should say anything if you do not have your mask on. I have a lanyard on mine that goes around my head, fits better, more comfortable and when I take it off, can hang it around my neck and easily put it back up. I like how my whole trip in vegas I was not asked to put mask back up after every sip. I was in all the casinos downtown and uptown I was in mlife casinos (exculibur, nyny, aria) and cosmo. I made sure a drink was in my hand at all times so no one would approach me and say anything. I bet someone would say something if I did not have a drink with me. Even when walking around, had a drink and mask hanging around neck. I wanted to share my experience. This was Halloween weekend when I went.

 

My experience in mid-October was that enforcement at Caesar's and Bally's was tight at tables. Drinking meant drink to your lips. Enforcement at machines was non-existent as best I could tell, including VP bars.

 

If they have a rule it seems odd to not enforce it but if the casino is going to have stronger enforcement some places more than others doing so at the tables makes sense given the close and constant proximity of table players to casino employees working the tables. That circumstance doesn't really exist at a slot machine.

 

I've talked with a few bartenders at the bartops and in general I don't think they will be enforced there ever again. They're tired of enforcing it and people are over it. All they asked is that if their boss was nearby people put them on which is fair enough. From what I've noticed is that if anyone is anywhere close to a bar with a drink in hand no one will say a word. As time goes by it'll become even less enforced. Tables yeah those will be enforced until the mandate is over but elsewhere hardly. Last trip the only place I actually saw them ask someone was at the entrance to V/P. Nowhere else in the casino including bartops and machines. CET properties not at all but they also don't have someone stationed by the entrance.

 

When I walked into the Bellagio from Caesars last week they had a security guard at the door telling everyone that they didn’t need to wear a mask if they had a drink in their hand. My experience was that there was no enforcement at machines and VP bars.

Everyone took off their mask at the shows and casino bars I went to. When we went to a local bar not one person there was wearing a mask.

I did stop at a convenience store for gas when I got into NV and the lady freaked out when I walked in without wearing a mask.

I believe everyone has had their fill with this and are ready to move on.

 

Reading all the lack of masks in this thread recently I'm not surprised the numbers are going up again and we are moving further away from hitting the target numbers to drop the mandate. I try to be respectful of others and wear mine when not drinking and I'm sick of it too but am used to the mask seeing I have to wear it 8 hours a day at work so it doesn't really phase me.

 

I know it's lax when people stop caring in elevators. They see people with masks on but it stopped meaning anything to them.

It was a big deal to get conventions going but not anymore. At SEMA (no vaccination or testing requirement) employees were trying but people just pulled their mask down after getting pass the workers. There were a lot of people there too! On the shuttle, 95% of people had masks on.

 

I was just there and enforcement was hit or miss at best. Actually not sure why they are really bothering with the mandate anymore. I was asked a few times in Casino royale of all places to pull up my mask while playing a slot machine, even though I was drinking. Other than that I would put it on to walk through places, but the minute I would sit at a bar it wasn't on. People are just over it. And I would guess staff are over it too and tired of having to be the mask police. I did have someone tell me a guy got tackled in Mirage late at night for refusing to put on a mask, but I suspect that that there was more to the story than just that. Because I didn't see any strict enforcement.

 

I'm realy just reiterating what everyone else is saying, but at tables and otherwise when approaching/talking to someone (cashier, ordering at a non-table service restaurant, sportsbook window, etc.), masks were generally required/enforced. When walking around or at machines, there was no enforcement (though I did get asked to put my mask on at a video poker machine at 1am when I wasn't within 25 feet of anyone, which was fine) and minimal compliance.

 

I believe it is a combination of things, not just masks. Case numbers are pretty much the same everywhere regardless if there is a mask mandate or not. To end the pandemic, everyone needs to do their part in getting vaccinated. Sonya made this post to share our experiences with masks at different casinos so people will be able to go places based on their comfort levels. Some want places with mask enforcements, some do not care, some do not want the strict enforcements especially if they are drinking.

 

Still here in Vegas. My experience:

At Cosmo, strict enforcement at table games. I was drinking a beer, and had placed it down, and the pit boss yelled at me to put it on in between sips. I made it known to him how dumb I thought the rule was, since restaurants have a much different rule, but I did put my mask on for the 20 seconds I wasn’t sipping. A few minutes later , he approached me from behind and says that he was on my side and that he agrees it makes no sense.

Outside of table games, the enforcement seems less stringent.

 

I've actually seen the opposite -- I usually wear a mask in the elevator (though sometimes will pull it down if I'm alone), and people see me with a mask on and immediately put their own on. Different because it's residential, of course, but the vast majority of Vegas locals and regular visitors have pretty much stopped worrying about it and just do the mask thing.

For myself, at least, I'm completely used to wearing it and have zero objection, but do find the difficulty in speaking to other people a little annoying. But so it goes.

 

Just ten minutes ago the Four Queens booted a person with security for not wearing a mask at a table game. Everywhere else in the entire property no one cares, aside from Hugo's.

 

I assume he (she?) was given a warning first?

 

And/or was being belligerent. It's rare, but I've seen people completely flip out when asked to put a mask on inside Strip hotels. It's not like "you're required to wear a mask" should be news to anyone at this point, especially given the giant signs anywhere...

 

The difference is at the table you are stationary, you are with your party and you are likely going to eat. That's wear the masks are dropped.

If you are in the casino, you are playing games, talking to people and interacting. Your mask should be up when you aren't drinking.

It's shocking that people think it's ok to not wear a mask just because they have a drink in their hand. The rules are there for now. We all want them to go away. Just follow them and soon we might be out of this.

Are bars/restaurants still operating @ partial capacity (like keeping some tables open between groups), or are things wide open?
