    My Trip Report

Actually left on the 19th, no idea why I put 20th in the Title Bar, 5 Days is too much for me.

Up front I will say this is was by far the most successful trip to Las Vegas by a large margin. I fear I may have set the bar at a level I may never reach again... But I will certainly try (starting again in January and March already for sure next year). Onto the report!
My normal October trip is myself and 3 or 4 friends from Austin. Two of us have Birthdays (17th and 19th), so it's always this same week. We golf, watch football, and try to minimize their losses at the tables and sportsbook. I don't really play table games, I prefer VP and the occasional slot machine.

    Flights:
Southwest out of SAT, early morning Friday we left on time with a mostly full flight (won the empty middle seat lottery, woohoo!). Arrived 7:15, no line for the rental car shuttle. Dollar Express folks checked me in at 7:30 and I was out of the garage by 7:40 in a decent Ford Fusion.

Car return was hassle free, and no line again to get back to the airport (again it was early so that helped). The flight back to San Antonio was loaded and ready to depart 5 minutes early, but for some reason we were delayed 15 minutes while they worked on paperwork. Something about a "new" system that I assume must have been having issues. We only arrived 5 minutes late to San Antonio though, so no complaints.

    Hotels:
South Point on Friday and Saturday nights, 4 Queens Sunday and Monday nights. Great room as usual with decent A/C at South point. Quiet and comfortable.
Room 1129 in the South Tower is my preferred room at the 4 Queens. It faces away from Fremont, doesn't have a smoke seepage issue, and is usually very quiet. And the A/C is cold enough that I think I could build an igloo that wouldn't melt in the room.

    Food:

Friday morning after arrival 3 of us went downtown and had Binion's cafe for breakfast. Excellent as usual, about a 10 minute wait to get a table at 9 a.m.
Dinner I had Coronado Cafe at South Point, and ate way too much chinese food.
We had Ping Pang Pong (an annual tradition), on Saturday afternoon, and again it did not disappoint.
Sunday morning I had one of the graveyard specials at Coronado, can't beat those deals.
Sunday we enjoyed wings and pizza at Chicago Brewing company with a minimal wait, timing is everything.
Monday breakfast I had my usual Queen of Clubs at Magnolias.
Monday lunch was at Top Golf, which was rather tasty.

    Golf:

We played Hidden Falls up in Summerlin on Saturday morning. The greens were fabulous, the fairways were soft and well maintained. Perfect weather.
We were supposed to play Sun Mountain on Monday morning, but Friday night I saw the forecast had changed, and major winds were now forecast. We decided to pivot to Top Golf on Monday instead. A great choice. We'll hit Sun Mountain next year hopefully.
After Top Golf, we headed over to Rio (where they were staying), and played a round of Kiss Mini Golf. Always a fun time.

    Gambling:
Wow. Let's preface it with this:
    IMG_E3282.JPG

Friday afternoon I hit this nice 2k royal at my favorite machine at South Point, one of the NSUD machines on the north end of the table games:
    IMG_3271.JPG
Ended up +2100 on the day.

Saturday after golf and late lunch, I started playing about 3:30 p.m. At 5:13 I hit this nice 2k royal on one of the triple play Jacks or Better machines:

Exactly an hour later, I had migrated over to my favorite NSUD machine again, and wow:

"Flush" with cash, I went in search of the Good Times Pay machine over near the Del Mar deli / USBC Bar. I found it, and was playing triple play NSUD. After about 10 minutes of losing around $300 bucks (it goes fast if you don't get any good hits), I was dealt 3 deuces, with a 5x multiplier on the second line. Held those ducks and hit the deal button:

I haven't calculated the odds of hitting the 4 deuces on multiple lines, but I'm sure glad one of them was on the middle line with the multiplier. That 1500 put me up over $7500 on the day. I was in shock by this point.

Sunday I checked out of South Point and moved down to the 4 Queens. Turned my $400 free play into $500 bucks, then kept playing until I was eventually at 1000 points on the day on the .50 jacks or better. (The only $ jacks or better was on the 16 per point machines). I wandered over to the $5 wheel of fortune machine, and on my second pull hit the spin, $800 bucks. Thank you! Walked over to try a little Piggy Bankin for the heck of it. Played 12.50 a spin for a few minutes, then decided to try a few at $25/spin. On my third $25 spin I hit the bonus, and ended up with $1400:

Went to sleep very happy after signing my 5th W2-G of the trip.

Monday morning I stopped at Wells Fargo and dropped of $9500 into my account, glad to not have to carry that much around any more.

Monday afternoon after Top Golf, I got back down to the 4 Queens, and sat down at the same .50 Jacks or better machine I like to play (over by the stupid noisy fishing game). 3rd hand I filled another 2k royal while the slot manager who paid me the night before was standing next to me, at which point she renamed me "Mr. Lucky".

I dinked around and went up and down on the VP and slots the rest of the evening, finishing out with the 2k payout in my pocket (I was willing to burn my daily $600 bankroll just having fun at that point). Earned a ton of points that night for sure.

    Wrapup:
Epic trip, great golf, great fun with my friends. They were getting a little frustrated with the fact that none of them ever seem to win, but they play 3 card poker and Let it Ride. I generally stick to games where I have an advantage or at least a sporting chance... I find I come out ahead a WHOLE lot more often that way.

Final tally, I had $12,900 in W2-Gs, and ended up with $13,500 in the bank.

Some of that has all ready been set aside for January and March trips.

One other thing of note, the Fremont Street cleaning staff seem to be doing a MUCH better job of cleaning now. It was WAY better than I saw it during my 2 summer visits. No broken glass, no spilled drinks. It was much more pleasant to walk around. I wonder how it will be this weekend with the massive EDC crowds. I look forward to people's reports who are in town this week.

    Wow! Great run!

    Congrats!

Do you normally like the increased variance of good times pay poker? At ten coins, I would think it is like Ultimate X Deuces Wild in terms of variance.

You obviously liked it this trip though!

No, I've played it a couple of times, and found I really don't like the variance. I just had a "feeling" that it is somewhere I should play that day after I had banked the big wins already. I really prefer the very low variance games like JoB, Bonus, and NSUD. I know the DB and DDB strategies, but both of them are far too volatile for my liking. I probably won't play that Good Times Pay very often, if ever again, even with my luck this trip.
I've never played UltimateX for the same reason.

That is truly an epic trip and congratulations on having the willpower to not go crazy with your winnings. I can relate to your friends frustration. I refuse to gamble with my SIL. It seems like she is always winning and we are always losing Haha.

You really must be Mr. Lucky. Every game you play, you hit a Jackpot on, at least that is how you made it seem. Very interesting indeed!! :ssst:
