San Manuel Tribe Shares Plans for Palms

This is all good to hear. Despite its location, the place did well for a really long time. I truly believe that it was KAOS that sunk them; the amount of money they were spending on DJs was just obscene. I think Marshmallo alone was like $30mm/year. Though it's not my scene, I have no issue with the clubs, I just don't go to them, but when you're dropping that kind of money on DJs for a place that's somewhat out of the way (an obstacle to attracting the younger set), there's no way it's sustainable.

We'll see if they actually live up to this, but truer words have never been spoken. For the sort of person frequenting boards like this (i.e., not the nightclub crowd), that's an incredibly appealing attitude.

 

Vosloo said the “dated” sportsbook will likely get an update and change in size; it currently occupies a big space the tribe thinks could be reapportioned for other uses.

They want to make it smaller? The sportsbook is one of the things that drew me to the property!

 

Brick and mortar Sportsbook are dinosaurs. People my age and younger want mobile.. Nevada takes more mobile action then walk up bets that will never change now.

I don’t watch any on mobile device.I go to my local bar where I don’t have to pay to get in. the bar seat isnt 300 minimum spend, the beer is 2.50 the chicken wings are six bucks.. And yes any game I want to watch they have

 

I have never had to pay anything to watch sports at a sportsbook in vegas. Are we talking about the same thing?

 

I guess I go when it’s prime time. March Madness, Super Bowl and yes you have to pay to have a seat during those times

 

Oh, that makes some sense. I never go to Vegas during those times. What Vegas sportsbook does that that you have seen?

Just put in a shuttle to the strip that runs frequently. It'll practically be on the Strip. And before someone says it, very few people will walk from the Strip. It's not an easy walk.

Food options.. buffet with dinner please..They did say they'll cater to locals.

Something else someone will say.. There's no theme, pass...

 

Palms had a shuttle before it closed; the driver was kind of miserable.
Very happy to see Palms re-open. I always really liked Palms and the staff (shuttle driver excepted).
Pre renovation, Palms had Alize, Nove and N9ne; never could understand why they closed these very popular restaurants with the renovation. Hope to see Mabel’s BBQ back as it was a new favourite.

If they have a buffet and decent food court I may have to wander over from Gold Coast and see what kind of offers my play might get me. I don't know about the locals, but it won't take much to get me to walk across the street. It's an easy bus ride to the strip, but a shuttle that didn't meander all over the place would be great.

 

I'm hoping low-minimum, 3:2 double-deck blackjack with DAS is in their plans. It would be nice to have an off-strip trifecta with Orleans, Gold Coast & Palms... if the Rio ever sells to someone who wants to appeal to table-game players, we could have 4 playable casinos in that sector!

 

The Palms was really something when they had Matt Goss’s show and they attracted every twenty-something from California. Now I’m not really sure what they are.

 

Neither did Stations when they bought it and tried to make it a strip property.

From what I have read about the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, it sounds like they know how to run a successful casino operation. Lets face it, the Palms ain't going to attract LV strip players any more. No really high end restaurants, no "in" nightclub so no "eye candy" walking around, etc.

They said that they want to attract locals. Maloof did exactly this when the Palms first opened.
Some simple rules:
Restaurants - VALUE - With Stations and Boyd not opening their buffets, I think it would be a great strategic move to reopen the AYCE buffet.
Food Court - Locals like and appreciate a quick and relatively inexpensive meal.
Slots - Make sure they pay well. Not like the strip.
Slot Club - Have a good program in place. Free gifts, good cashback for points earned, good mailers. A tiered club would attract the higher players.
Video Poker - Offer better pay tables. 9/6 Jacks, NSUD, 9/6 BPX, etc. Have a bunch of progressives. Still positive for the casino. No need to offer FPDW.
