fremont street experience

haven't been to vegas since the pandemic----usually stay downtown----lined up 5 nites at mss in december
i noticed the crowd on the fse was a mixture of 50% tourists and locals like don the dentist
the remaining 50% consisted of panhandlers,wineo's,peddlers, buskers, junkies,hustlers ,and other assorted characters

with circa now open has anything changed?

i should point out i always felt safe there,the lvpd do a good job with their presence holding down crime,very few if any reports of muggings,stabbings or shootings

 

If you’re 10’ in front of me to the left……we could have a decidedly ’different experience.
It is ok but have a place to go. Dawdling and gazing skyward are not in our priorities
So we boot scoot boogey thru there…..at a measured pace.

 

I go to FSE quite a bit, I wouldn't put the latter group at 50%.

I don't see where Circa changed the FSE crowd.

 

Circa checks id's at the doors, which is kind of annoying, but it seems to keep the undesirables out. On the other hand 4Q is a little more liberal about letting non-patrons loiter and they're sometimes loud and annoying. I too rush from casino to casino on FSE to try to avoid my time in the crowd. It amazes me how many parents will expose their young kids to Fremont Street, especially going into the wee hours of the morning.

And although I haven't seen any, I'd estimate that there are approximately 10,000% more skunks on FSE based on the smell.

 

Metro does an amazing job out here but they are just completely outnumbered and seems like crimes have skyrocketed in the past few years. Was down on Fremont and Circa (a ghost town) a few weeks back for the first time in months and would say its about the same but a little higher number of your undesirables hanging around but never felt unsafe.. with that being said i also see how something could certainly pop off at any moment.

metro patrols the strip and all of clark county except those towns that have their own police dept like boulder city,,north las vegas and the city of las vegas

 

Your figure that 50% of the crowd consists of things like "wineo's" is very far off from reality.

So I cannot really tell you if things have changed because I honestly have never seen that crowd as you described to begin with.

 

Just so you understand. Fremont St and downtown is in the city of Las Vegas, the Strip is not. It is in the Town of Paradise, but Metro PD does both. Plus, Fremont Experience also has a private security force to supplement.

Not to be a nit picker, but the City of Las Vegas police department merged with the Sheriff’s Office back in 1973 to become Metro. They patrol both downtown and the Strip and other unincorporated areas of the county.

LVMPD is Metro PD. They are responsible for all of Clark County, which of course includes the City of Las Vegas. There is no other police force unless a community's own force. Henderson etc.

 

I've always gotten the impression that there are no city police. I think you just have the Metro force.

 

We were in Vegas Sept 26-Oct 1 stayed at The D, love Vegas & downtown, but D & 4 Q are lax on keeping panhandlers out and the moochers can be a pain, also we feel semi comfy downtown, you must be aware of time & location keep head on a swivel, love downtown heading back i Dec. Been in Circa i time not my cup of tea, flashy, young loud.

 

I've been going downtown for almost 30 years and I've never seen the 50% wineos and junkies as claimed. Not even on Wineo and Junkies Day.

Was downtown earlier this week and would say it’s was more like 20% “undesirables” on FSE at night, but felt safe walking around FSE and people watching near the stage next to the D.

 

Was there last month, 12 nights downtown. The "characters" are disgusting, been going downtown for years and Fremont is now like a bad carnival. It's not 50% but whatever the number is it's enough.

We cycled through the crocodile dundee wannabe with his only covering on his ding dong, the "characters" writing up their cardboard signs in the morning ie going to work, the dirty costume cartoon characters and the list goes on. Oh I can't forget the guy with the twisted hand that rushed over to show me..thanks for sharing..

It amazes me that LV allows this to go on and whose ever idea it was to do the busker circles as a control measure was obviously on some sort of medication.

Circa keeps them out with the show ID deal.

4Q, Fremont not too bad, GN it's the wild west to me the worst, instead of having a security person at the walk in off Fremont entrances they're too busy chasing them out of the casino. There was a "character" who would come in yell a bunch of profanities and then walk out and he did this over and over several days. The GN doesn't have enough security people to handle it.

Having ranted about that, did we feel safe sorta...love the ones that magically pop up when you're playing a slot and need some money for food, gas or a cigarette. Is it enough to keep me from going downtown? not yet but it gets worse every year.

To think of all the money spent on the Fremont canopy light show deal and the bands and then have to deal with this shit is hard for me to comprehend.

It's Halloween every night.

 

Learn a foreign language only to the extent……no speak English…..no speak French….German…..Portuguese etc. Its not that hard and some what put off-ish….in a linguistic sort of way.

 

Lots of mentions about showing an ID keeps some beggars, hookers, homeless, actors, etc out of Circa. When I was there I thought the reason for an ID check was because they are a 21 & over place.
