    So,
I don't normally get massages but I am thinking of taking the plunge this trip.
I have noticed that almost every spa has the following attached to the price "automatic service charge in lieu of gratuity"

Is this Service charge the Tip for the therapist or is it shared by the company?
Is the standard to add an additional tip? and if so, what is the standard?

Its usually both. A large portion of that percentage goes to the therapist and usually a couple points goes to the rest of the staff

So do you normally add in more for a tip? if so how much?

Here’s what Mandalay said below, it was the same at Wynn. I added another 10% for a nice massage. FYI at MB, I was really only interested in the spa day pass so got a $60 manicure (that included the service charge and day pass). The men’s spa was so empty on a check out Sunday I spent the whole day soaking and watching football with the staff. It was fantastic and I tipped accordingly.

MB: For your convenience a 20% service charge will be added to each spa and salon service received. A portion of the service charge is dispersed to the spa and salon staff members who served you and the remainder is an administrative fee. Additional gratuities are at your discretion.

I’m not recommending this… just stating what I do. I actually just ignore that fee (I still pay it, of course) and tip 20-25% on top of the massage cost. I justify this to myself, as a massage is a far more “personal” service than putting a plate of food down in front of me.

I get a massage every trip and I don't tip extra on top of the charge the spa has.

so, they get around $120 for a 50 minute massage (or more)
Then they add another $24 in auto tip

I don't even pay my Doctor anywhere near that. Where does all that money go?

By the way, strip prices are in the $120 range. Nice little massage place at El Cortez if downtown - I think about $70-80 and no auto tip. I give them another $20

I pay $170 at Aria for 50min. I think Cosmo is similar to that

Semi-relevant the roaming massage women at Circa run $2 a min, I usually do 35 min and give them a hundy. Hard to stick with when you want a few more minutes.

there’s no added on gratuity so I guess that’s semi in line

I did that once - there had one setup with chairs near the elevators on 2nd floor. One of best massages in ages.

Harrahs has those chairs as well on the casino floor

I'm saddened we have a "massage" thread where "tip" was mentioned 20 times and no one made a joke. What's become of this country?

And so, much to @fudgewapner 's dismay, the thread did not conclude with a happy ending.

These are the prices for Qua. $175-425 for massages. Before any gratuity. I won’t mention the word tip, but at these prices…

I haven’t seen a massage on the strip for $120 in a long time. It’s almost like they assume you’re getting it comped and will not be price sensitive.

I always give the therapist 20$ or 40$ in cash after the massage - its always very much appreciated - I dont always trust "the man" to allocate tips correctly and have been told by more than one service provider that in fact is an issue.

Serious question - where do you stash your cash? I tried keeping tip money in my robe, but me and my robe don’t go everywhere together in the spa (and not a lot of other places to carry it haha). Maybe I could run back to my locker from the spa but I usually just add the tip to my bill.

Very interested by this thread as I am heading back soon and plan at least one spa day at Encore. Separate question and I am not interested in a mask controversy, just wanted to know how the mask mandate plays out in the spas. Do you wear the mask while getting the massage and how about in the common areas (jacuzzi, steam room etc).

At the Cosmo while you were face down mask could come off - face up on the table and you put it back on.

No mask in steam areas - most people were not wearing them in any of the common areas

The key words not only being "massage" and "tip" but also "strip".
