I can't seem to locate this info, but i am sure that it can be found somewhere - what is the key to having mask mandate repealed? what metrics need to be reached?

2 weeks in a row with less then 50 cases per 100k population.

Right now Clark County is hovering around 140ish I think?

I think part of this whole experience needs to be calibrated in a similar way that people were calibrated to Vegas debauchery before. When you went to Vegas pre-2020, you expected there to be drunk morons, half-clothed women, and degenerates everywhere. It wasn’t for everyone and there’s a reason many people chose to stay away or not bring kids.

There’s a similar phenomenon now. Even though we all wish compliance with rules and mandates was 100%, we all should expect there to be deviation and should plan and act accordingly. It’s a place of reduced inhibitions which has always applied to al facets of behavior, including health. Hopefully it will I’ll be a moot point soon, though.

It is a pretty big difference in the debauchery that went on in Vegas pre-pandemic compared to not following a law that is in place for public safety.
If someone gets soo drunk that that they get alcohol poisoning it does not get those around them sick. Seeing someone half-clothed is not going to land you in the hospital. BUT If someone is asymptomatic and walking around without a mask they are putting everyone near them at risk.

I do agree with you in that if you choose to visit a busy place like Vegas you need to be prepared for the risks and that is what this thread is all about.. It gives people an idea from boots on the ground as to how risky the environment currently is.
My assessment is that it is riskier now than it was in August and I gave my reasons for that assessment. It wont stop me from coming to Vegas again.. but it will likely change my planning for my next visit (altho that wont be until the new year so I will be counting on others to keep me updated on the current situation as it gets closer to that trip)

I will say that today I moved to the strip and compliance here is WAY better.. I would estimate 90% compliance for masks inside. Is this because today is Monday? It could be a weekend vs Weekday thing,. or a Strip vs downtown thing.
Another noticeable difference is that every casino on the strip has a mask dispenser at every entrance. So anyone who forgets can still put a mask on. Downtown they would get you a mask if you went to an employee and asked but it was not as easy.
I also visited 2 "off the beat" casinos (alienate and Boulder Station) on the weekend and honestly they had the best compliance out of anywhere so far.

My Recommendation is that anyone nervous about coming stay away from downtown for now

I agree with Guy that half naked women and drunk dudes are not likely to send me to the hospital like someone unmasked and spreading COVID would. But you're correct that the purpose of this thread is to report on the ground what you are seeing as far as compliance and enforcement so you can make your own risk assessment.

It's part of the reason I'm asking people to not include opinions about the mandates or the people wearing or not wearing masks and just report on the ground what you saw. Leave it to each individual to decide what it means for them that 90% of people are masked at one casino and 40% at another. My risk tolerance is going to be a lot different than someone who has a much different expected outcome if they get COVID.

I appreciate that only a few nudges and edits have had to be made in this thread so far. I appreciate being able to share the info from a wide variety of people. The more information, the better, IMO! :)

I would agree w/ that assessment - we were there 3 weeks ago and downtown was much more lax both inside and outside than the strip.

I agree with both of you and I wasn’t equivocating drunkenness with spreading diseases. Just saying people should expect there to be recklessness as there always has been in Vegas, including public health this time around.

Just got home this evening from a five day trip. I kind of agree with what Guy said (60% full compliance / 20% chin diapers / 20% none), however I can offer that at most of the poker rooms I played it, it was near total compliance and other than one instance at the Sahara, I didn't see anyone needing to be reminded. That one guy, though, was a loud, obnoxious asshole and any time a dealer or the floor told him to put it back over his face, he tipped them $5 for doing "a great job", then two minutes later they'd have to tell him again.

For some reason this past weekend, the California's casino temperature wasn't as cool as many places, and I found myself being one who took it down under my nose if I was alone on a bank of slots. I used discretion when I did it and I was never asked to replace it.

As for slot social distancing, the Sahara had all machines well spaced out and had very few rows of machines, instead having them in carousels of 4 or 6 machines. I was guilty there, too, of letting my nose out.

I am absolutely in favor of mask mandates in any state or situation where transmission rates are high enough to justify them, but wearing masks for five days started to get old. I was in a poker tournament at the Golden Nugget that lasted over seven hours and I was willing the tournament to end so I could take the damn mask off. After that I noticed myself looking for reasons to take it under my nose. I am guessing that five days in Vegas was probably too many, but I didn't know how it would affect me when I planned it. Now I know.

If you are obsessed with people not wearing masks, don’t go to Tahoe. No enforcement, maybe 50% usage. I have been here all week. On the California side, masks aren’t even required.

I've spent 4 nights at Cosmo. Mask compliance was pretty good on Tuesday and Wednesday. Progressively worse since then. Tonight on Saturday I'd bet less than half the people on the casino visibly have one in their possession. Another 25 percent ate under chins or noses. I haven't seen any employees try to enforce.

I just watched a video taken 08/31/21 at the Cosmo in the High Limit room and nobody was wearing masks - neither was anyone in the background on the main floor. Is this indicative of the mask enforcement currently? I was there in March and it was very strict but leaving next Sunday and would like to hear from recent visitors as to how strict the enforcement is. Thanks!

I stayed at Cosmo last month and mask compliance was being enforced in the high limit room, the high limit slot room, and the Talon room. I haven't seen whatever video you are referencing, but I doubt it was accurate

I was in LV last week and indoor compliance was being followed most of the time. During the day, pretty compliant. It seemed as the evening grew late more and more 30s, 40s folks weren't wearing their masks but still seemed >50% were wearing masks. Mask compliance was so high in LV that it seemed weird to me when I just went to my local, Atlantic City, where masks are not mandatory and 70-80% don't wear them.

I went to Borgata two weeks ago and I saw maybe 10 people wearing masks, not counting the Borgata staff. Truth be told, I also wasn't wearing a mask, but at least I am triple vaccinated.

    Cheers!

Was the video shot before the mandate went into effect? It was just before that.

For strip properties how are masks when sitting at bartops? If you’re in a lounge chair in the same bar you can have them off so I thought it was weird that you had to wear one while playing and drinking as opposed to sitting and drinking. Just wondering if they’ve loosened that up a bit.

Mandate appears to be that you have to wear them indoors except while ACTIVELY eating/drinking. That should be mask down, sip/puff, mask up. In reality, nothing close to that though.

Where have you seen the exception for lounges?

Wondering if that's just a case of poor enforcement or an actual rule that some establishment(s) have.

Agreed.. it is more like, if you have a drink, cigarette, or food in front of you then the mask is down/off

If you have none of those 3 then most people are wearing a mask.

I was just in Vegas this weekend and mask enforcement was high all over Cosmo, The Linq, and Harrah's. This was on a late Saturday night, with everyone ready to party. :)

Definitely better than I'd seen it over Spring or before. It's a process - and the staff in "charge" of monitoring people simply can't be everywhere at once.

I have never seen people sitting at tables with a drink in front of them with a mask on. That’s with 10+ trips during covid. The bartops have always been enforced but sitting in lounge chairs I've never seen people being told to wear a mask if a drink was in front of them. Maybe it’s different other times but not when I’ve been there. This is mainly Caesars and Paris.
