I definitely get comments when I post Vegas pics on Instagram like “wow! Vegas again?!?”...But I find that once I explain that I never go unless my rooms are comped and I have a decent amount in food & beverage credit plus free play they start to understand. Plus I refuse to play less than $200 round trip, always direct flights.

yes. This. I felt like this every time I got there and would text friends ‘I’m home’. It’s been so long now I hope I feel as comfortable when I go back.

That's more than I've been, on average, between fall of 2019 and fall of 2021!

But seriously, I get the "Vegas again?" line, or rather I did before Covid, and others have expressed "concern" about my casino time, even though I can honestly assure them that for most local casino trips I am $20 and out, and sometimes come back with that $20 and more. I actually recycled the same $20 from April to August at our local Ameristar.

this is more or less my #1 selling point for my vegas trips

what other vacation/weekend getaway can you go on where the hotel rooms are almost always free, i often come home with the same amount of money i left with, and occasionally come home with more?

Yep, golf resorts don't toss in rooms and meals when you plink down on your green fee. Then again, Vegas doesn't do much of that for us since we gamble so little now, but the fact remains, that what is spent on Vegas' particular brand of recreational pursuit does come with a comp structure. (On the flip, I don't know folks who go on tilt at Bandon, hitting ATM after credit draw-down after CC advance.)

Something like this is what I would place on the "dependency" side of the abuse/dependency divide!

My husband didn't criticize my trips, and was totally supportive of me traveling, but it wasn't until I took him on a weekend trip in Jan 2020 that he really GOT IT. I had a rare weekend comp at NYNY (he was like, the room is really free?), took him to a prix fixe dinner at Le Cirque (he said it was the best meal he'd had!), and had close to front row seats at Zumanity. Panini at Eataly every morning; VP at the bar every night. He said, "Now, I really get it." So much to do, so many choices within walking distance.

Now he wishes I could bring him along more often!

Do I have people who think I am obsessed? Yes.

Do I have to deal with the Negative Nancy blah blah? No. And neither do you. Life is too short to engage with people like that. You know what they are going to say if you tell them where you are going, so simply don't tell them.

I'm both a cabin/lake person and a vegas person. No one questions when I head to the lake as many weekends or vacation days as possible from May to Sept. No one questions that it gives me peace and an escape. Many don't understand Vegas gives me the same in the winter.

I often (pre covid) did a couple Solo trips per year on top of the couple with the hubby. Hubby does a few ice fishing trips each year without me. People understand him fishing with the boys. They don't all understand my solo vegas.

Framed financially, my cabin cost me $ to build and continues to cost me $ in upkeep, taxes, etc. We also have a big boat and a truck to pull it. Don't even ask how much a day on the lake costs for gas....the fish we catch are expensive. My hubby has a lovely snowmobile and all the gear. Of course fuel, etc for a few days snowmobiling and fishing adds up, too. Sometimes if I explain to people how many solo vegas trips I can make before I reach the cost of hubby's snowmobile, gear, etc they're a bit shocked and leave the matter be.

Am I obsessed? Maybe, but not much more than I am about my lake time. Lake time is just more easily understood by people where I'm from. Both destinations are an escape and a break for me. Just in different ways.

My brother once got on my case about my vegas trips and I asked him if he was worried I wouldn’t have anything left for his kids (I have none). He never said a word again

After my trip to Vegas last month, I was sitting in a meeting and one of my coworkers asked about my trip. She then looked at a new employee and said that I had a gambling problem! I was extremely offended and responded with something like "it's not a problem as long as you're winning." Later, one of my long-term coworkers confided in me that she asked him how much he thought I won when I was out there. Apparently, she thinks I make more in a trip to Vegas than I do practicing law! o_O I wish I was as lucky as I am in her delusional reality. Ultimately, I decided to let her think what she wants. If I am feeling particularly evil, I may make some comments after my next trip to feed into her delusions. :wink2:

That's completely unprofessional and she should be reprimanded.

She's one of the owners (we both are) so that's not happening.

In Hawaii 99.9% of us are obsessed and addicted to Vegas. So if we comment to each other about being obsessed or addicted, it's more of a comradery compliment, lol!

The other .1% of the population just keep their mouths shut unless they want to die.

With that being said, I'm currently nonchalant about Vegas right now. But I'm sure when I do find my way back there the magic and excitement will return.

    Maybe they are right.

I have never met anyone in my life that had a right to judge anyone though. Anyone's life can be examined and flaws pointed out.
