I am soooo sad reading this news. And to add to the list of cons: what's going to happen to their slot selection? I assume there's a reason MGM doesn't have half the slots Cosmo does at their properties.

Good point. I better book something now lol.

For real. You know the bean counters are going to flip the switch on sippy cup well comps and non-existent floor service as soon as they get the green light to start “improving” the experience.

Pretty sure I’m going through some grief stages today.

Identity Gold already gets you half price Wicked Spoon every day without needing to use a reward. And unlike MyVegas rewards, Identity Gold gets you automatic comped room with no resort fee. And this is all likely going away. I have mlife gold too and have never gotten anything from it beyond skipping the buffet line. :(

^ This. Cosmo has no resort fees as a specific benefit at certain tier levels. I'm gold at MLife as well and still get charged resort fees. This sucks. I don't see where it could possibly be good for the players and the people who have loved Cosmo.

Keep in mind everyone, the commentary is all speculation and nothing about the inner workings is set in stone yet. Let's not all go crazy just yet.

We have several months to enjoy the Cosmo we know and love, and the building isn't going to implode, so things we like (rooms, views, food and eateries) will most likely stay the same. Only time will tell on the other changes.

^ Of course. But stuff like the players club...I doubt MGM is going to significantly change their established players club as a result of this, and Cosmo's players club is just so much better that it's definitely a step down.

I will say there is one positive I can think of, and that's table games. I like playing some table games but never did it at Cosmo since it likely wasn't getting counted towards anything. That would likely change now. And looking at my win/loss, I'm down at Cosmo the last two years, but up at MGM the last two; so there's that, haha.

I wonder what our resident Cosmopolitan legit-expert thinks of all of our posts.

If nothing else, I hope we're conveying a theme that many of us - I think the majority of respondents on this thread- like Cosmopolitan and Identity as is.

As a table games player and a recent (somewhat) convert to MGM from CET, I suppose I’m also one of the few who isn’t hating this.

Black chip table game play got me, quite literally, nothing when I played a few pop-ins several years ago at Cosmo. I’m hopeful that, should I do the same at Cosmo post-merger, I’ll at least be somewhat qualified to get a few nights. I enjoyed going in Cosmo for a while, but how poorly they treated low-mid table game players such as myself continually kept me away. Looking forward to going back next year to see if anything is different. If not, no worries but worth a shot I suppose.

Honestly, what the hell is going on with MGM holding back renovations? I know there have been some partial refreshes at Luxor and Bellagio lately. I had a recent stay at MGM Grand and the room definitely felt worn. Hell, even CET with their penny-pinching ways was willing to refresh their properties.

I appreciate the sanity check and I fully intend to enjoy Cosmopolitan over the coming months. Having said that, I can’t help but have a sense of impending doom as someone whose home base is Cosmo. While I agree that the rooms, views, food will likely remained unchanged, Mlife does not hold a candle to Identity for a VP/slot player like myself.

Over the coming months, I am going to stew on where (or if) I will focus my play on the Strip given that this acquisition further consolidates Strip ownership into two programs that have a track record of consistently diminished player benefits. To be clear, I’m not quitting Las Vegas but I can see taking the lions share of my gaming $$ away from Cosmo and to non CET/MLife resorts based on their trajectory.

I will also note that the Cosmo crew factors heavily into my loyalty and I fear that this may not be a positive change for those folks. I genuinely hope that MGM not only retains the talent but also treats the crew well as they are a big part of what makes for a unique and delightful experience.

On that note, I gotta stop chitchatting and get to planning a couple of Identity extravaganza trips!

So after this we'll be down to

    MGM
    Caesars
    Wynn
    Resorts World
    Venetian
    Bally's
    TI/Circus Circus
    Strat
    Rio
    Tropicana
    Casino Royale
    Palms
    OYO
    Virgin
    Ellis
    South Point
    Circa/D/GG
    Nugget
    Stations
    Boyd
    Sahara
    Plaza
    El Cortez
    M
    ...

I'm sure I'm leaving a ton out. We can definitely add a lot more competition by breaking up the big boys into many individual casino operators.

We keep staying at those places so they don't need to make them nicer. Instead they rather spend the money on shiny new toys like Cosmo.

I used to split my stays…two nights Palms, then 3 or 4 nights Cosmo. Great comps at Palms. Then Stations took over Palms and destroyed everything I loved there. The top rated restaurants disappeared….Alize, N9NE, Nove. My comps dropped way off.

So we pretty much went all in Cosmo, with the odd CET night to fill in for comped room if we had a late night flight out.

I’m not confident the things we love about Cosmo won’t disappear. It was insanity when Stations destroyed what was great about Palms. I hate the thought!

    F$&k, f$&k, fuC$, fuckity, f$&k!!

myVEGAS is an slots app you can play for free and get rewards by spending time and earning loyalty points. In most cases, you can just leave the app open and earn points without doing much. You can get most rewards without ever spending any money including free rooms (with resort fees). The rewards that require some spend require very little money compared to the real casino rewards programs like M life or Identity.

In the spirit of positivity, maybe MGM will find a way to expand the gaming area, physically. Cosmo has so much convention space. I've often thought "why don't they have slots up here" when I'm on the long, carpeted trek between their towers.

I have no idea how these things work, but more machines or gaming areas might be cool?

Just trying to find something positive. Overall it's still terrifying!
