    As a Belgian, I'm offended :(

Why would you destroy whatever that belongs to somebody else and is clearly maintained with love. Beyond my mind, this. I hope Derek doesn't take it away.

Someone should destroy their property at an equal cost / expense.

The trend of people doing "whatever they want wherever they want" is disturbing to me. Respect the property of others is such a simple concept. Most of us can manage to do it even when drinking heavily. Some people cannot manage their drunkenness. I hope they find these idiots and charge someone so that they can have a permanent reminder of their stupidity on their record.

    Don't break other people's shit...how simple?

The problem is they think it's cool that Derek has it on Twitter. When they get in trouble they'll record their arrest and put it on social media to score even more points. Which means they can't help but post their videos online so it should be easy for the cops to find them. The whole thing is sick. (Don't forget to rate this post if you agree.)

Then again maybe Derek masterminded the whole thing. He is a mad genius after all.

Just the booze (and maybe weed) working it's magic. Not intentional.

They're saying the estimated damage is likely in excess of $200k. Hopefully this night of drunken idiocy was worth that felony.

Well 200k for a small fountain statue seems a little excessive...must have been insured...

Weird, because this doesn't jive with the atmosphere that The D tries to create.

That's a shame, now we will see construction signage up around there for a while. 200k seems like such an inflated costs, but if they sent it out for quick bid maybe it would cost.

prosecute to the fullest extent the law allows. they don’t even do that to people who fight in airplanes and wreck my vacation calendar.
Let’s see where it goes. (100 hours of community service in the restrooms of the property with the real attendant as supervisor would be nice). :)

Fountains and statues are expensive. $200k seems about right. The article I read said it broke both the fountain and the statue's base. The statue's being sent back to the foundary it came from to see if it can be repaired. It's not like it came out of the garden center at Walmart.

Another way to look at it is the statue itself weighs 500 lbs, so that works out to be $400/pound.

The co-insurance factor would probably be 80% or less.

Yeah, kids are doing things like this in public school bathrooms, destroying stuff and stealing soap dispensers. Really sad stuff.
