you couldn't really afford the land and plant on Strip or downtown

There are still a number of family operators - Stevens, Ruffin, and Gaughan come to mind.

The last time MSS tried eliminating 9/6 JOB at the bar we were still living there. Somewhere between 2008-2010. It didn't last long. It wasn't the tourists that disappeared, it was the locals who come in a couple of times a week. The bar was just so empty. Bartenders complaining they only had two customers their entire shift at 3 PM. iirc, it only lasted a month before they brought it back.

The first time I went to Fremont St. was 1997. People were saying it was failing or going to fail back then. This was about 3 years after Fremont was closed to traffic. End of an era, first nail in the coffin, never be the same, last ditch effort, etc. I don't think anything downtown's failing, but I do think things change faster there than on the strip.

I was referring specifically to the Boyd casinos. I've been a downtown enthusiast for a very long time. Patterns have shifted over the years and most of the casinos seem to be doing fine. Binion's is obviously struggling which is sad compared to how it was. I never spent much time at Fremont but have spent the equivalent of months at Main Street over the years. Even pre covid the crowd was nothing like it used to be and Ty's pics make it look desolate now. I truly hope I'm wrong.

Met up @eliza for lunch at the Garden Court. I was disappointed with the food. I had a fried chicken thigh which was dry and tough. A tough pork chop with gravy, tough. Salad was good. It was comped, otherwise I would have been upset with the quality.

Eliza is easy-going, fun to talk to, and very knowledgeable of Vegas comps.

Thanks for update Ty. A 4 hour flight from Atl to sit at the BHB and play 9/6 JoB is totally worth it. Two royals over the years, and great conversations with all the bar keeps makes it all worth while. I’m sure I have contributed more than I’ve pulled out over the years, as have most of us. Why they are gonna take out a 99.6% game that keeps the bar hopping, I’m not sure what “they” are thinking. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Rant over.

    I really like this place!

I see what you're saying and tend to agree. I think people on VMB appreciate MSS more than most people though, so the lack of crowds doesn't surprise me much. Looking at Youtube vids right now, a lot of casinos are fairly empty, and I think once word gets around about MSS it will pick up. I don't even know what to make of Binion's. Maybe it's because I don't play poker, but it's never been my favorite and it's always seemed to be hanging by a thread. I skipped it entirely last June, but I'm planning on visiting it again when I'm there next week.

The work going on upstairs in the VP area. CW says they are repairing a pipe in the ceiling.

The photo was taken before all of the credits accrued.

It was still counting up the credits when I took the picture. It did pay 125.

A couple of years ago I asked the same question.

Eliza is quite delightful. That's impressive if they can make the dark meat dry and tough. That skill is usually reserved for white meat.
