Video Poker What's the best current VP training app for iPhone?

I have Bob Dancer's Video Poker for Winners on my computer - and I love it - but the little free time I have rarely allows me to sit at my computer. So, I'd like to get a good trainer for my iPhone, and I don't mind paying for an app if it's a good one.

I'm sure the offerings are constantly changing and evolving, so what are some good options right now? I know Wizard of Odds has one for $10. Anyone have experience with it? There are quite a few others if you search, as well, but random reviews in the app store can be hard to trust.

Unfortunately, Bob Dancer's software is not available for iPhone or I already would have purchased it, so input on any other options is appreciated.

EDIT: I mostly play DDB, but my wife and I are planning a 10 year anniversary trip next year and I'd like to start learning BP and JoB so I have less volatile options to extend play time on my low roller budget.

I have Winpoker for IOS. You can train with it, modify pay tables, and you can pick any five card hand to see what the proper hold is. I have that screen up on my phone when I am playing. Just bring it up, put in my five cards, and see the results. Been using it for years and never had a casino employee question me about it.

 

I use WinPoker which is great for analysing hands and adding in custom pay tables, which it then adapts strategy for if necessary

 

agree on WinPoker.

 

I have Android, so I can't give a first-hand opinion, but several members here have purchased WinPoker for iOS, and I have yet to read a single complaint.

WinPoker all the way. Though I’m starting to favour the VideoPoker .com “Pro” trainer, which is browser-only.

 

Another thumbs up for WinPoker for iPhone! I've been using it for a number of years now, as well as Bob Dancer's Video Poker for Winners on a Windows PC.

 

OP here with an update and follow-up question.

Turns out I previously bought WinPoker for my iPhone, it just wasn't installed. Reinstalled and back in training mode. Officially less than a year before my wife and I travel to Las Vegas for our long-anticipated 10-year anniversary trip, so plenty of time to get back in the swing of things for DDB, plus start learning BP and/or JoB.

Question: we always stay on the Strip these days. I'm sure there aren't any great options available for quarter players these days (I know there aren't for DDB), but which is the "better" option to learn since we may not be traveling off-Strip much on the trip (and if we do, those visits will be focused on better paying DDB): BP or JoB? Primary goal is having a solid low-variance option in case the daily bank roll is suffering.

 

just caution, there is a WinPoker or used to be in the google play store, it is not the same one as on iOs.

I love the WinPoker app and it always amuses me win I check a hand in the casino. Back in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s when computers were as big as a house the casinos greatest fear was that someone would use a radio and a computer to beat their games, now I just whip one out right in front of them!

 

i'm always afraid the eye in the sky is looking at me when I do "analyze a hand" on that app...i am not as worried when I look at my screenshots of the Wizardofodds charts tho, I feel I could argue that is similar to having a print-out...but I am sure they are not focusing in on what I am doing on my hone...its just my own paranoia! lol

 

I play mostly DDB but I think it has a higher variance than BP or JOB.
There are a couple experts on the board that can correct me if I'm wrong.

 

My question was wordy and unclear, sorry. I know DDB has a much higher variance; I’m wondering if it’s better to learn BP or JoB based on Strip paytables, and also my decent knowledge of DDB strategy if that transition is easier for one or the other. I’m sure neither are great on the Strip, as is the case with most options, but I want to learn one of them to have a lower variance option than DDB, even if I still only have Strip pay tables to choose from.

Well, the good news is that the strategy for Bonus and JoB is virtually identical. If you aren't going to play 9/6 JoB anywhere, I would technically learn Bonus strategy.

As for playing on the strip, I would almost always play Bonus over JoB as well because Bonus is usually the best paying game between the two. In many places, Bonus is the highest payback variant a Strip casino will offer. Just make sure the Bonus paytable pays 2 for 1 on Two Pair. There is a poor version that only pays 1 for 1 in a few casinos.

The general rule of thumb for Bonus vs. JoB is: if the sum of the full house and flush paybacks is less than two coins apart and 2 pair is 2 for 1, then play Bonus. In most Strip casinos, Bonus only has one coin lower on the full house.

Examples: 7/5 Bonus > 8/5 JoB
9/5 JoB > 7/5 Bonus.

If you really want to play UX correctly though, the app by Perfect Play LLC is worth considering. At @Flowers's level, it would easily be worth the app cost.

I would also argue these are the best paid options for Android @Kaylatheplaya. Free options exist, but flexibility and interface are blah enough that I can't really recommend much.
