    Hello,

I am new here and wanting to say HI and just hoping I can learn a lot from this board.

I want to a plan a trip for myself and hubby next Sept 2022. This would be a first for the both of us.

We both love gambling( gambling doesn't love us lol). Our favorite games are Mississippi Stud and Three Card Poker.

La Vegas has definitely been on my bucket list, with all the fun and different activities. So if anyone has any advice for me I am all ears. I want to know about budget friendly tips, hotels , food and everything that would help us.

    TIA!

    Welcome to the board.

If you're looking for budget friendly Fremont Street might be worth a look. On the other hand "the strip" has loads of attractions. Some of the cheaper hotel options would be Bally's, Flamingo, Excalibur.

All these places will have various restaurants/quick bites that will be much cheaper than a steakhouse. Plus almost every fast food option you can think of is within walking distance on the strip.

Feel free to post your ideal budget for a hotel and we'll help you find something.

    Welcome to VMB!

Budget friendly for hotels can be a challenge. I'd point you downtown, or to somewhere like The Excalibur, Bally's or Flamingo on The Strip. Read up and you'll learn a lot about which properties interest you most.

Food is pretty varied. You can find Subway or White Castle all the way up to something around $700+ for two.

I ran here to post this and yet you beat me to it. Though I can't read this without doing it in John Oliver's voice.

My cousin is visiting Vegas for the first time in a couple weeks. She asked me, "Are there any good restaurants in Vegas?" Were we not on the phone, I would have just blankly stared at her for a minute. Then again, I went to Taco Bell this morning.

Also, it depends on your budget. The worst room at Excal is still better than the Best Western Kent Narrows Inn. It really depends on what you're interested in, and when you're going. Bally's and Flamingo are great suggestions. If it's a bucket list thing, I'd probably pass over Downtown, but that's just me. I would absolutely visit Downtown, just not stay there.

If you are looking for a Mississippi Stud table on the strip, I know all of the Caesars owned properties have a table on their casino floor

    Thank you guys so much.

I just feel so overwhelmed. This trip seems more intense than my family Disney Vacation and that was for 5 of us and 8 days.

I decided to work in steps for planning:
Dates: how many days and nights
    Time of Year
    Hotel:
    Attractions
    Food/Restaurants
    Shows;
    Gambling

This is my plan. Waiting to keep my budget flight and all at $5000.00 for 2 of us.

I promise you are not alone. It's hard when there are so many options and you have so little first hand experience.

The first place to start is budget, and you seem to have that. Does that $5k include your gaming, or just hotel, food, transportation and entertainment?

Next pick your time of the year and dates, if possible. How many nights are you considering?

Then focus on picking a hotel based on your amenities, price, and location. First trips are always a bit more special when you can stay on The Strip. A lot of your time will just be walking around and gawking at all the sights. I still do this, after 25 years. ;)

If you have specific shows or restaurants you want to be sure to try, maybe use that to base your decision on where to stay.

And trust me that no matter how carefully you plan, at least half of those plans will get set aside when you see or think of something in the moment. At least, my itineraries always end up that way. :haha:

Planning on 4 days and 3 nights.

Also how far in advance should i be looking form show tickets? Planning on the second or third week in Sept 2022 for trip.

A year out is a long time for shows. I would say that I usually see people booking around 2-3 months before.

26 hotels sounds like a lot. We can narrow that down for you if you start a new thread in the Strip Hotel section. With your budget, a number of the top tier hotels will probably be out.

North to South, the hotels you're probably interested in looking at (for price are:

    TI
    Harrah's
    Flamingo
    Bally's
    Planet Hollywood
    NYNY
    Excalibur
    Luxor

All are pretty much mid-tier hotels. You might find a reasonable price at a few others, but that's a good place to start with your budget. As to the pros and cons for each of those, that's probably pretty subjective and depends on what kinds of things are you looking for.

All, except maybe Luxor, are pretty centrally located and you can walk to other casinos easily from there. The Luxor does have a tram that will take you to Excalibur and the corner at Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana, so you're not that isolated at Luxor. I would say Flamingo, Bally's and Planet Hollywood are the most "central" to the Strip.

I'd suggest looking at Harrah's, Flamingo or Bally's. When I started going to Vegas we'd stay at IP, which is now The Linq, and a neighbor of those properties. It's a great location to explore the strip from. You can easily walk to most of the major properties on the strip from there.

If you're going for 4 nights, I'd suggest only planning out activities/meals for about half that time. There's only so much you can get online about Vegas, and once you're there you're going to see things you want to do, so don't worry about filling an itinerary ahead of time. Most of us keep going back because there's so much to see or do there, it's easy to create a never ending list for Next Time lol.
