The Grand is my home base. Curt is the best, he bailed my son out after a cancelled flight on our last trip. $5 craps and a small casino. It is the only place I will stay downtown. Comedy show was great for the money and the pool is awesome.

So I have commented on Downtown Grand before, but I will again. I love it. Why? Curt is great -- the host at Downtown Grand. If you have been playing decently, then go to him for a Triple George comp. (across the street and I love the restaurant for lunch and dinner). The rooms are clean. Are they what I really like? No. They are simple and clean. Fine. I also get a suite sometimes and again, they are simple and fine. The Downtown Grand is across the street from the Neonopolis and I love Don't Tell Mama's (a piano bar there). A local favorite (Colt) plays the piano and sings on Thursday and Friday nights from 8pm to 2am. If you stay at the Grand, you have to check Don't Tell Mama's Out. Anyway, the pool is empty compared to the other pools of downtown (Circa and Nugget). So you can swim and get wet! I also like the casino because three of my four biggest jackpots (of my life) have come from there.

Oct of 2019, we were invited by a host and really liked the place. Yes, the rooms are minimal but OK. We were attracted by the excellent VP pay tables. Research states that all of those are now gone. Without that, not worth what we are looking for. ''The Kid"

It's pretty much been covered with those great informative posts,
hate the midweek table shutdowns, because we try to avoid weekends,
    but I'd add:
    • it's a great place to run away from overwhelming weekend Fremont madness for a more chill enviroment
    • Way, way, way quieter than any of Derek's spots.
    • Can't understate the + of Pizza Rock being right across the street, grab a slice to go, go eat em at the tables by the Bar w. TV, then play some
    • usually do pretty good there, maybe that's why it's the only DT property we've never been offered a comp room at.
    • The casino is nice, clean, and well spread out, you'll probably quite like the variety of new well maintained slots.

DTG is my home base downtown. Like already stated above the VP bar is great. The machines are a little further apart then most bars which I love. My last trip they stopped comping Jameson and Crown Apple at the bar.
-My offers are usually weird. I usually get two comp nights, if I need a third Curt has helped me out. After being there in July(when I played more then usual) at first they increased to $45 freeplay twice a month and $20 food credit. They this week I got an offer for $10 freeplay and no food credit. The amount of freeplay and food I get offered is very random and changes each offer even if I haven't been there in the mean time.
-My play is almost the exact same when I stay on the strip and my offers there increased after my last trip and are better then DTG.

Yeah, this decrease in offers is consistent with what was shared above thanks for sharing. DTG is definitely tightened up. For me they've gone from my best offer DT to my worst, and that includes properties I've never stayed at.

I switched DT from the strip 4 or 5 years ago now. My host at venetian still gets me better offers.

For my coming trip I reached out to curt just to see what he could do. He was able to add a couple nights comped but I think his hands are tied with respect to FP and credit on front end. Obviously there's back end but with as tight add they've gotten I'd be leery of getting much.

I checked out of the grand hotel early due to the music playing from outside in the back at another venue until 4am. They were nice enough not to charge me for the second night and was upfront that I could switch to another room, but everywhere has noise. For example, when I got off the elevators, I could hear the music from the pool there during the day and I was surprised and glad I wasn’t staying near there. I was on the 6th floor on the other side of the pool. That noise is NOTHING like you hear at Cosmo because that I can faintly hear it, but it’s not bad—its more you hear and feel the bass. This felt like I was right there. The hotel itself is nice and clean, but basic. It would have been fine if it was quiet. I was in the gallery tower which is the newest one built in September. I had great service at checkin, valet, and when I walked in looking lost to get to the hotel room, this lady on the casino floor asked if I needed help and provided directions! I was impressed with the customer service and really glad I chose this hotel. When I got to the room, I noticed there was no fridge so called front desk to ask for one (it’s like the super small square ones you get for dorms lol) for $15 a day. Also asked housekeeping for lots of water and lotions. She was really nice too and seemed happy with the tip. I liked how small the casino was and didn’t smell smokey. Front desk provided a lot of info up front with what is open and their hours all on a sheet of paper to take with you. I loved that! I opened a players card and won a deck of cards and free dice if anyone wants that. The people at the players card were also really nice. For example, the guy walked me to the promotion booth and showed me how to use it. Didn’t get to gamble since I was going to the festival and I doubt I ever will. I really wanted to give downtown a try, but the most important thing for me is a quiet place to sleep after I’ve been out all night. I thought the music would end at 2am. 3am at the latest so I was prepared for that. But 4am, I wasn’t. Had I known, I would have gone out to the after party! During the day, it was pretty quiet. So as long as you’re aware to stay away until 4am, you’re good. Oh, one other thing. When I initially called at 3:15am to ask front desk how long the music plays, she wasn’t sure but said maybe 3:40/4am and it was a holiday weekend so it could go longer. No rooms were available for me to switch to that night, but I could check in the morning. I asked her for the privacy tag for the door and she sent someone up. That person decided to knock on the door several times AND opened the door before finally just placing it on the door. Good thing i had the top lock on! SMH. Then this morning, at 9:30am, housekeeping knocked on the door. I opened it and she asked if I was checking out and I said yes, and confirmed with her the current time and checkout time. She pointed at the privacy sign and said sometimes people accidentally leave it on. Seriously?? WHY would you knock on the door with a privacy sign and before checkout time???? Okay, enough rant lol. But I don’t foresee myself staying there again. It’s too bad, cuz I really liked the customer service and seemed like a good clean place to gamble for fun.

    Thank you for that info!

Can anyone tune in: is it as bad when staying Tue-Friday when there are no holidays?

I can have some noise (wasn’t bothered by Encore night club, for example), but when it’s loud as when the speaker is next to the bed…

Great detail on Downtown Grand! Thanks to the posters!

I'll be staying there in November for the first time. I've only VP'd and slotted there for a handful of hours two or three years ago. They emailed me the below offer and I booked it. I love downtown but don't want to deal with the heavy weekend crowds on Fremont St right now. I know DTG is a little less crowded with the rest of FSE a short walk away.

Does anyone know when their pool season ends? Assume it's sometime in October. I'm going the first weekend in November.

    "1 Comp Night Sun-Thurs
Stay awhile in a deluxe room
    $20/night Sun-Thur & $50/night Fri-Sat valid Oct & Nov only. Blackouts apply.
$10 reduced resort fee +tax/night on discounted rates. Upgrade to Gallery Tower starting at $15+tax/night.
$10 in Free Slot Play two times per month
    Plus, $5 dining credit"

After I called to reserve, I received an an auto generated email of my reservation and Jennifer also emailed me a screen shot of my reservation from their reservation system, which also quoted the above offer details. Weekend FSE noise has never really bothered me. I'm looking forward to my stay there!

This thread made me want to give DTG a try. I too had never stayed there and had minimal drop in play over the years

I received a similar offer (less the comp night) and tried to book 3 nights starting Saturday November 6th. Initially Jennifer told me there was no offer availability due to the raiders and I’d have to pay full rate the first 2 nights. I noted the raiders are playing in New York that weekend and was then told it was a city wide event and that weekend was a blackout date. Even with applying the offer, booking the same dates on their website was slightly cheaper than booking with Jennifer. I generally do the majority of my gambling where I stay. I understand offers having blackout dates but sometimes it feels made up. Just tell me my previous play doesn’t warrant the offer and stop pulling excuses out of your hat or just stop sending me offers.

As a side note, Jennifer was very friendly and was just doing her job…no worries.

Sadly 6 nights on the strip are cheaper than 3 nights at the Plaza.

That is lame to come up with the "raider game" excuse when she obviously doesn't know they're on the road. I'm staying 3 nights starting Thursday Nov 4th. When I called I was half expecting to hear the offer is not available that weekend line. I think the Professional Bull Riders tour is in town that weekend. Another possibility is that they want to sell both Friday and Saturday nights for every booking that weekend, but either way a straight forward answer would be easier to understand.

Stayed there once around the time it opened. No complaints there. Nothing remarkable to comment on except that the pool was very uncrowded during our stay which was really nice compared to being packed in like sardines at every other place we've ever been. No idea if those conditions holds up in 2021 or not.

Most of my experience though is just as a regular gambling stop when we come downtown. Drink service has been consistently good for as long as we've been coming. The furnace bar has also had very good service. I appreciate the lower minimums and generally quieter environment compared to the rest of Fremont which can get a little overkill on the noise.

I would say that DTG and Plaza are my favorite casinos to play in downtown.

When traveling, this is the best $13 you can spend-- esp in a situation as you described- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PV7YMSL

I stream white noise via YouTube on my phone and it plays thru the built-in earbuds inside the headband... drains out everything around me while I sleep. I use this nightly at home since my fiancé (god love her) snores but esp helpful in Vegas.

I think it’s more that it was $300 a night. If it was free or $50 whatever, I wouldn’t care, but I could have paid LESS or the same on the strip for the weekend and I was really surprised by that. Maybe I’ll give it another try if there’s an event downtown again. The festival was super fun:)

I know a lot if people say how great "Curt" is. But my experience with him has been awful. More about that in a minute.

Downtown Grand sent an offer for $20 weekdays. $10 resort fee. So I took that in June. They charged my card $660 plus when check in. Then charged another $138.00 without my consent. I told one of the guest service agents. She had the nerve to say watch your other charges!!! Had to go through my cc company to get refund.

The first room they gave me was sooo trashed. Then got an OK room. But asked to be upgraded to new tower if possible. They did. New tower is nice.

With all this hassle. I didn't play. Had another reservation in July. Had to change as I had better offer from other places. So canceled that. When I go to rebook. Curt gave me such an attitude. Well you have no offers. You didn't play last time. First of all you don't treat a customer like that. Second it's not like the room comped. Third ,he had the nerve to say. Well if you don't play, you won't be able to use any more offers. FYI they sent me more offers!

Then on the July trip I check out. About a month later in the middle of the night I get a charge from Downtown Grand on my txts charged almost $200. I called the card company. Oh we have to cancel it immediately. So had to do that, and dispute. Called Downtown Grand and talked to accounting department. Supposedly my card didn't pay them for the trip. However I was billed. The card company had to open a dispute about it. Card did pay them before. Refunded my money on card.

Downtown Grand is very shady!! Curt is awful.

It blew my mind when they told me they do not match comped offers either. I provided them with my cosmo, cet, and stevens properties offers since I wanted to try out the Grand. Curt told me he was unable to do any matching upfront, even resort fees. The way he spoke left a salty taste in my mouth and I have no desire to play there.
