Looking for info: Gambling: open tables or a lot closed? Any plexiglass at tables, seat restrictions.

I know room service is still closed which sucks so long lines to eat?

    Any trouble getting uber? Taxi?

Service good or? Understand housekeeping requires a 24 hr notice any trouble with that?

    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks

I was downtown in June, so that's how old my info is.

I saw food lines nearly everywhere, but I didn't see them at GN. I think it was Claim Jumper there that I saw was actually fairly empty.

During the afternoon, it took me about 10 mins to get an Uber at the D.

I never saw seat restrictions at any casino when I was there, I don't think that should be happening now, either. While there's a masking mandate, there's no social distancing component to it. Maybe someone who's there now can confirm that for you though.

    Was also there in June.
Im going to be honest and give you my true opinion

Its still nice, good places to eat, nice pool and bars, decent rooms. Plenty of slot
selection too. We weren't offered any drinks as we never saw a waitress, it was very busy on a wednesday, but it was
peak summer too. It's probably slower now I would think on weekdays.

But I felt like it was always packed with people, maybe you like that, but Im older and more mellow. And it is in need of a little renovation imho.
That being said, its the second nicest place probably downtown. You'll have a great time!

I too am older and more mellow

I've stayed at GN many many years but NOT in the COVID times. That's why I'm curious about staffing (not seeing a waitress is a problem) , open tables, etc. Appreciate your comments.

    Anyone else?

I was there August 3rd thru the 7th. We had a pool view room in the Gold Tower. The room is getting a little worn but still worked for us. There were no restrictions on seating in either the casino or restaurants, nor was there any plexiglass. Masks, of course, were mandatory. Tables and slots were open. Saturday night and early Sunday were the busy times.

We did not find lines for food at the Nugget or Circa but available tables weren't the best. CJ (Claim Jumper) no longer serves bread but you could buy toast for $4. We had the pretty crappy toast, remorsed the passing of their great cheese bread, and decided this was our last visit to this restaurant as the food was just acceptable. Saltgrass still serves great bread with their meals and the food was very good. Also did take-out from Grotto that was good.

We had comped transportation from LAS to the Nugget. The shocker was when we checked Uber rates Monday for rides to the airport (different flight times) Tuesday morning -- over $60 each. We decided to take shuttles which worked great and only cost $18 per person plus tip.

Drink service has usually been good for us in all play areas. But we go about four times a year, know some of the servers, are friendly and tip appropriately. I believe it was Flowers who educated me to using the $2 bill. This last trip I asked the slot server if I could have a double Crown rocks and she said they can't serve doubles. Then she brought me back a 7 ounce glass that was obviously filled with Crown and a little ice. I laughed and said that looked like more than a double and she proudly told me she went to another bar to get it. At the bar, you can generally get a better pour if you select a liquor that is not available on the gun. If slot servers seem scarce we sometimes seek a server with a tray and ask where she will be taking orders next -- and then sit in that area. A side note: I once ordered an Absolute rocks at the Binions VP bar and the server specifically told me that he could give me a much better pour if I ordered Stolis ... so of course I did.

I agree with Zoey11's comments about the rooms, restaurants, pool, etc. And that you'll have fun there! And I am also definitely older.

mnsue thanks that's pretty recent info.

Did you use housekeeping? If so good service? Yes we love the Grotto just wish it were open during the week, to think the money spent moving Grotto to Lilly's neighborhood and not being able to fully open costs money.

Uber pricing seems out of control

I went there to gamble in mid-June...and I was VERY pleasantly surprised, as they had plenty of carny-game tables open, and at $5 minimums!
No plexiglass & all seats open (at that time). Some dealers were masked, others were not - & I always assumed that was based on their vaccination status.
I played UTH there for quite awhile, as they were the only downtown casino offering the game at $5.
One thing that has been true in the past and is still true - their gin & tonics suck...seriously bad...not sure if it's their gin or their tonic but do not order one there!

I was at GN this past Wednesday 8/25 for 2 nights. They picked me up at airport so I didn’t use Uber for that trip.

2 people at checkin - I was in my room before 9AM. Was offered housekeeping at check in, saw 2 housekeeping carts working on my floor each mid morning.

All 3 mornings I had breakfast at Claim Jumper around 9AM, 8AM & 11AM - no line to be seated but restaurant was about 80% full each meal. Every meal was very good & quick service with great follow ups throughout the meals.

Chart House Wednesday 4:00 - walked in. Great, attentive service & they are running several specials with soup/salad, entree & side, & dessert for $55 along with their full menu & a happy hour small bites & drinks in the bar. (Still serve warm bread basket - no charge)

Thursday at 5:00 Vic & Anthony’s (my host had made reservation for my birthday dinner)
Excellent service & food - the filet was PERFECT! (Still serve warm sourdough bread - no charge)

No plexiglass anywhere, UTH tables were only $5 during the day (I don’t know if they went up at night or on the weekend). Most tables were open.

Waitresses were making rounds consistently - usually 2-3 passes before I was ready to reorder on tables.

Slots & VP - servers were fairly constant - maybe 15 mins spacing.

I found all the employees to be friendly & helpful. We had a great dealer on UTH, along with a fun group of players, and spent about 3 hours one day having a great time.

I Ubered to Orleans around noon on Friday. The pick up is still in the parking garage but it was less than 5 min wait.

There were even many open loungers at the pool each day & I saw fewer than 10 kids all 3 days.

I imagine being there during the week helped with all aspects of crowds & therefore service & wait times.

Have a great trip & good luck! I’ve been staying there since 1985 & I’m happy to help if you have any other questions.

    ann

It can be, yes. They're still down rideshare drivers and on my last trip and my next trip I hired a private sedan from the airport to the hotel. Once downtown and away from the airport, timing was worse than price though. Before you go you can use the app to get a good feel for what you're up against by setting up rides at the times to and from places you'll likely be going.

Ann: excellent info thanks  We have been staying at GN since 2000 and are going to V&A for my birthday too. I know you said you play UTH did you notice any bj and crap tables open as opposed to lot being closed?

Lots of Blackjack tables with the wheel bonus were open & the crap tables were also open starting early in the morning. They may have been open all night.

    Good luck!

I’ve never stayed here, but in my eyes, it’s the gem of Fremont. Clean, fun, reasonable limits, poolside gaming (although hours/days are different due to COVID), great bars, etc.

I was out there a week ago (Aug 29-30). It felt busy but not crowded. I didn't check out the BJ tables but played a lot of craps. No plexiglass. On Sunday afternoon/evening they were running 4 of their 5 craps tables - 3 at $10 min and 1 at $15 min. In general service was very good (front desk, dealers, restaurants). Drink service in the casino was slow but OK. I only stayed one night so I don't know about housekeeping.
