The smell of weed has been there on the strip since before COVID and the crowds coming back. Honestly, I never thought it was nearly as bad as people said. There are spots where it is more noticeable, like right in front of the fountains at Bellagio at show time, but move 50ft down the sidewalk and it clears up. To each their own though, if the smell of weed bothers you, Vegas might not be the place for you anymore.

I tend to veer away from the doom ‘n’ gloom set too. But I want to see it with my own eyes and form my own opinions. As much as I cherish your experience and points of view there’s no replacement for firsthand knowledge sometimes. Mileage varies with everything so I’ll take one for the team:peace:.

We're looking forward to our October trip and while we have some concerns, at this point we have no plans on cancelling. Of course there are concerns with the COVID situation, but we're Vax'd and wear masks (never really stopped at any point this summer). At this point wrt masks - I just don't understand the issue. At some times during my working career, I had to wear a mask to perform the work task. AFAIK, I didn't suffer any brain damage and dealt with any fogging issues on my glasses. I understand that it (ie, wearing a mask) is not comfortable or preferred or natural, but there are other things we do without hesitation that fit into that category.

Regarding smoking (whether cigar, cigarette or weed), I prefer a smoke free environment for my lungs, so just don't blow it in my face. Most of the casinos have pretty good ventilation, if it is really bothering me, I can move. Also, we mostly avoid the strip as I'm not a fan of crowded conditions and prefer the gaming conditions of the off-strip casinos, so there's that (most of the smoke/weed complaints seem to involve strip locations)!

Regarding current table minimums. I'm not a fan of the $15 and above table mins. The higher table mins are not quite as prevalent at the off-strip casinos, but there are some I don't understand (reference my recent trip report and table mins at The Orleans). The bottom line here is that if you're willing to search them out, there are still lots of casinos with table mins at $5 or $10, so go and support those casinos if this is an issue for you.

Lastly, no matter where you choose to vacation, the keys to enjoying your vacation are patience, flexibility and understanding. It would be nice if others showed consideration for their fellow humans, but that's not always the case regardless of where you choose to vacation. So, when we experience the situation where someone else exhibits bad or inconsiderate behavior, we try to approach the situation as a temporary condition and move on. Chances are that in 5-10 minutes, we will have forgotten what the issue was and are happily enjoying our vacation (and our blood pressure hasn't spiked !).

The reason why I love Las Vegas is because it is Sin City, sex drugs and rock & roll and food and gambling and many other things. Something for everybody and everybody for all, that's how I feel when I'm there. Like all the fun loving people of the whole world are coming together to play. I like that you can just let your hair down without judgement. I like the open-minded people and the tolerance towards each other. I like sex, (legal) drugs and rock & roll. And last but not least, I like that I usually only meet positive people who are enjoying themselves and having a great time. The type of people I like to hang out with on my holidays, or anytime anywhere for that matter.

The whole world is suffering now, including the entertainment- and service- industry. I was seriously afraid that Vegas would not recover like - or as fast as - they did and turn into a ghost town, with many places bankrupt and not opening again. I'm so relieved and impressed how they are managing during this pandemic. And that we still have the option to go or not (for us in Europe unfortunately not yet, but that is not the fault of LV management).

The alternative would be that we all would (have to) wait until things are sort of back to normal, before any of us would (be able to) go again. At least we have the choice. Some people will want to go back asap and others will want to wait until things are more back to normal first. The first one is helping the second one to speed things up, as things will sooner be back to normal if at least some people come to Vegas to spend money. How else would Las Vegas be able to recover, if no money is coming in at all?!

So the people who want things more back to normal first, will be happy the more people already want to go spend their money now, because the more people go spend their money, the faster things will get back to "normal". So even when you prefer to wait, it's better to encourage people to go sooner than later and not try to convince them it's better to wait. It's in all parties' best interest the more people go sooner than later.

PS: Prices will never go back to what they were in 2019. But that will always be the same, prices only go up. When I went to Las Vegas in 2018 after 2 years of not going, prices had also gone up almost as much as they have now, after 3 years of not going (about 2/3rd ).

I think it'll diminish, but still be pretty around outside. And even then, I've seen casino security chase off people outside the hotel but still on property. Casinos definitely care about keeping it off the floor, because NGCB cares, but it's of course incredibly obvious. I've seen casinos get fined for allowing someone to gamble without carding them when they looked kind of young. But from a practical perspective, they don't want smoking in the rooms in general, weed or otherwise, but if you're not doing anything visible or noticeable, it's not really high on their priority list. It's not like they're searching bags on the way in.
I'm indifferent on the legalization. I've never even tried it, let alone mind it, just don't have the interest. But for years I've thought it was crazy that as far as federal law is concerned, you can get a prescription for ketamine but not marijuana (with the exception of that one epilepsy drug that's derived from marijuana).

I digress, but I've always found it fascinating that they were able to instill this perception. It's an amazing bit of marketing, because in reality, the Strip is probably the most high-regulated place in the world. The Motel 6 on Tropicana is probably not something anyone keeps an eye on, but the reason Cantor sold to William Hill was in part because Cantor effectively lost their gaming license due to technical errors (they were allowed to exist, but not allowed to use any of their own software).

One last observation about the weed smell; I stayed at Trump Tower last night and will be again tonight and I can report zero odors. None. Anywhere. Except the perfume in the lobby ;)

So obviously it can be done…..or ventilated…..or masked with another scent…..but most properties lack the desire.
