From a dealer as well as a local “regular”

room to shut down during September because they don’t have enough dealers for WSOP. Deal WSOP or you’re fired. Room May or May not re-open after series.

hard to believe but with el dorado it’s not surprising. Again, rumor.

Not hard to believe at all.

it would be harder to believe that if closed, it would ever re open.

I'll be looking for Poker Kraut's comments. He's a poker dealer there and I would guess most here know of his vlogs.

This isn’t eldorado (well, not entirely at least). There’s a big problem with getting poker dealers across the country. And there were traveling dealers who would follow around the big poker tours, but as they all started getting cancelled a lot of them found other work. Getting enough dealers for this is going to be a big issue.

That was my first live poker in Vegas many years ago. I think they were rolling 7 Card Stud back then before the Hold Em craze.

We used to stay at Harrahs but they closed that poker room, then at PH but they have closed that room, now if they get rid of thecFlamingo room too, one really has to question the Eldorado/CES commitment to poker.

Eldorado’s commitment to poker…how about lines, lounges, housekeeping, security, entertainment, restaurants, Diamonds, Seven Stars, liquor pours, and it’s own employees. I will give Eldoraldo credit, the parking experience has not changed from pre COVID.

It has an awkward table layout and needs reforming, so it wouldn't surprise me if they just went ahead and closed it.

Every place that Kraut deals eventually closes.

Odds on them adding a surcharge for the closest spots in the parking garage within the next year?

Don't deal WSOP, you're fired. Deal WSOP, you're fired.

    Damn, that's harsh.

I played there last week since I enjoy limit games and they have one of the last 3/6 games on the strip since Mirage's poker room is gone now. Table broke down within 10 hands. I should've just left because I ended up losing 2/3 of my stack playing a very short-handed game. Even though poker rooms take rake, they're still considered an amenity in a casino since you'll always make more money replacing every square foot with slot machines. I haven't listened in to any investor calls recently but I assume El Dorado's strategy is to just gut everything and turn it into the machines - fire the dealers and turn them into machines, take away the poker rooms and turn them into machines, gut the buffet and turn it into machines. They're not alone in this but they definitely seem to be more shameless about leading the way. I believe PH's old poker room turned into one of those community gaming pits which I'm not really a fan of except for the fact that I can play $5 bacarrat.

Poker is a dying game is the bigger issue; table count has been in decline for years. Close to 40% of the tables in the state of Nevada closed between 2010-2019 even pre-pandemic.

Pandemic was an excuse for operators to put some of their lower tier rooms out of their misery. Having rooms at Harrahs AND Caesars AND Flamingo was probably dumb. Having poker at Excal AND Mandalay is probably not a good use of space. Mirage and P Ho probably couldn't justify the real estate (Mirage, in particular, had a great location)

Personally, it always felt like Flamingo did better than the other CET rooms ex-Caesars, although I guess if you're moving the WSOP to Ballys, you probably defend that room first. Flamingo's room is also in a location you might wish to repurpose - that front corner of the resort has always felt underutilized.

I'm actually surprised at how many rooms reopened; I'm legitimately surprised Mandalay opened their room. I don't understand why Sahara is bothering with theirs. Same with Westgate. And I'm a bit surprised by Resorts World, too.

The last time I played at Flamingo it was meat-locker levels of cold. 110 outside and 60 in the poker room. The rest of the casino had no problem hanging at 72 or whatever, but after an hour of poker I couldn't feel my fingers, and I was wearing long sleeves and jeans. Good riddance if they shut down.

But yes, WSOP needs all the dealers it can get.

Ha! Haven't played there in a while...but I see things haven't changed. By far the coldest spot in Vegas...other than in the Caesar's pool maybe.

Speaking of the Mirage, what happened to the space where the poker room used to be in? The layout is confusing enough for me that I can't remember where it was located.

It was right next to the restrooms beside the theater and behind the bar by the sports book.

Looks like after the WSOP the only remaining CZR poker rooms with be Caesars and Bally's. During the WSOP only the Ceasars poker room will be open as Bally's will also close so those dealers and floors can work the WSOP. At least that is the current talk.

They do run cash games at the WSOP but I wonder if those will be curtailed due to the dealer shortage.

And if they do, will they also require proof of vaccination? I personally hope so as that may tip me into following through with my "iffy" WSOP trip.
