I have asked that we limit discussion about the new mask mandate because the moderators and I are so very tired. I have tried dozens of times to have a reasoned and open discussion only to have each and every thread go off the rails with disinformation and attacks against the people who disagree. We aren't doing that this time.

However, information about the conditions, the compliance and enforcement of the mandate are on topic and important to planning. I recognize the need for on the ground reports from people in Vegas and a central place for it that doesn't require reading all the trip reports, would be helpful. Here are some guardrails:

    What this thread is for:
    • This thread is primarily a place for people who are in Vegas to let us know the on the ground reports of the effect of the mask mandate in the casinos.
    • This thread is the place to ask questions about specific properties and mask related questions about compliance, enforcement and other conditional issues, like whether masks are being provided on the floor, if they are required in restaurants or at the pool, conditions at bars, etc.
What this thread is NOT for:
    • It isn't the place to discuss your opinion about masks, their efficacy, the mandate, or any policy surrounding the mandate.
    • It isn't the place to discuss how you are cancelling or not cancelling a trip because of masks.
    • It isn't the place to promote ways to get around the mandate.
    • It isn't the place to "Debate COVID".
    • It isn't the place for any off topic posts or thread drift.

I would like to keep this thread informative and on topic. As a result, this thread will be HEAVILY MODERATED.
    • The first post you make that is out of bounds will be issued a warning and removed.
    • The second post that is out of bounds will be issued a double point warning and removed. In addition, a thread ban will be issued, preventing you from further replies in this thread.
    • Any other action, such as starting another thread to rehash issues after being blocked from this one will result in a permanent ban from VMB.
    • As always, if you have concerns or questions about a warning or action taken by moderators, my PM and email are open.

I know that a good portion of you understand what I'm trying to do here, and I appreciate your support. For those who are confused, please know that this isn't about "censorship" and controlling ideas, it is trying to spare the mental and physical well being of myself and the moderators. (My email and PM are open if you'd like to discuss any concern you have.)

We have been working hard to keep this board moving in a way that we all have grown used to. A place where friends can learn and share about our favorite vacation city. Unfortunately, some people have other ideas and there has been an increase in the level of harassment, threats and personal attacks on myself and the staff and I'm done with that.

This board is my "virtual living room". You come here for free and are expected to get along and follow my rules and guidelines. If you have objections to myself, my moderators, the rules or any other policy of VMB, I hope that you are able to find another website that is more to your liking and a better fit for your needs. Future harassment and abuse will not be tolerated.

Thanks again for understanding and I hope that this can be an informative thread for all of us, with a little help from VMBers who are in Vegas right now and going forward through this mandate period.

    Thank you.

I can start things off with a question for anyone on the ground in the next couple weeks. Is Absinthe still performing with the new restrictions? We have a trip in late august and the in laws already bought two tickets to the show. I don’t see anything in the new restrictions that would prohibit that show, but it would still be nice to have it confirmed by someone there in the next couple weeks. Thanks

I haven't seen anything specific about Absinthe, but I saw that masks will be required at Bruno Mars and Usher shows:

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/entertainment/entertainment-columns/kats/usher-bruno-mars-will-play-to-masked-fans-2409082/
But I agree that on the ground reporting is better than any article from LVRJ or another publication. :)

I also would like to ask people on the ground whether restaurants have gone back to the socially distant arrangement of tables of a few months ago. I have reservations at a few places (Amalfi, Mon Ami Gabi and Gordon Ramsey Steak) and hope they do not get cancelled because available seating has been cut in half.

There is nothing in the new mandate about distancing or capacity limits.

I would be interested to know how restaurants are addressing masks. Wear them walking in and take them off when seated is what I seem to recall was protocol in spring.

Great thread, I’ll be there this weekend so I could provide an update.

I am interested to see how strictly the casinos will be enforcing the mask mandate.

@Sonya i tried reading anything about when masks would come off but read that there has not been a date yet. I assume #s will be watch daily and will be based on that.

I get there on Monday and will definitely report back. If it is anything like the previous masking period, the casinos will be on it, as they have as much of not more to lose than anyone. Since the GCB is responsible for enforcement at the gaming properties, and can leverage substantial fines and even a suspension of a gaming license for a habitual offender, casinos are more likely than most businesses to enforce this very tightly. If past precedent is an indication, expect to be promptly reminded to pull your mask up by dealer/pit/security unless you are actively eating or drinking.

I will update what it is like for breakfast when I go down in the Morning at Nomad…ate lunch at Tom Urban bar today, and the bartender wasn’t even aware the mask mandates was going in tonight. FYI, pretty good wind driven rain hitting the windows right now….first time I have seen a good rain in Vegas.

I’m checking in at Mirage tomorrow. The app has already been updated with the new verbiage. Also have a helicopter ride tomorrow and Bacchanal on Saturday.

The pool part is different from before when they had people wear them unless going into the water. Nothing about capacity or social distancing.

Basically the mandate is county by county based on how the CDC classifies them, but status isreviewed on Tuesdays and you need two weeks in or out of a category before they change it.

So in theory Clark county would have to be moved to a lower category by the CDC, stay there for two weeks, then the mandate would go away the next Tuesday

I posted in the announcement thread. It's going to be evaluated every week and after two weeks of Clark County being back down to Moderate levels, the mandate should roll back.

Here is what the state released today.

    20210729_173043.jpg 20210729_173039.jpg

I have seen nothing about outdoors, including the pools. I also have seen nothing about distancing and capacity restrictions either.

Just indoor masks this time around.

I was on the strip last night and talked to employees at several resorts about the impending mandate. Although I wasn’t at any MGM resorts, the opinions everywhere else seemed to echo the memo released to MGM employees this week. The resorts don’t want to face any potential closing or even social distancing restrictions so they plan to be strict in enforcing masks and have been relaying this message to their workforce. Many employees aren’t looking forward to enforcing it but are being told by their bosses they will be expected to do so.

This question might not be answerable, but I'm wondering what the policy means for someplace like the Rush Lounge at the Golden Nugget? If you step into that "enclosed" lounge for a drink (and a dance?) does your mask have to remain over your face at all times, or could it be relaxed somewhat (similar to a restaurant) if you are in your booth enjoying a drink/conversation? I'm sure bars on the casino floor will be enforcing "masks up" rigorously. I guess we'll find out when we get there...:rolleyes2:

Thank you Sonya for this topic.

Upon checking in at Wynn last night we were told starting at midnight that they were required when inside the property.
I can tell you No one was wearing them downtown last night and only about 5% at Wynn. This is prior to midnight as we went to bed as we stay on Central Time here.
    More report to come.

Walked around the Wynn floor just now. Mask compliance pretty good but then again it's 6am...
No masks required at bars, everyone was without a mask at the B Bar I walked past.

I also wonder about enforcement. This was announced only a few days ago, you can't ramp up security that much to provide enforcement.

My guess is that they'll put back the staff/security at entrances, and have masks available. Back when there was a universal mandate, they didn't put security out there, but they had staff members. They're (unfortunately) experienced with this.
