I see a number of things on that list that Las Vegas and really no major US city need more of

Interesting - the articles mention the complex will have two hotels, but then say “2,500 room hotel with no casino”; I wonder if that leaves the potential for a casino within the complex Not sure if the NBA would be ok with that, but also not sure if they wouldn’t be either

 

Another arena seems like insanity to me.

So does 400,000 sq. feet of retail space.

But I also don't think we'll ever see it. So why not dream big!

 

Yeah, not to be Debbie Downer here, but, to me, anyway, this one REEKS of undercapitalization! Undercapitalization? LOL, I think it may be more like close to zero capitalization! (*MEOW!*)

*shrug* based on the capacity numbers I found for TMobile Arena, the All Net Arena would hold 5,000 more for a basketball game; I honestly don’t know how much of a difference the capacity would make re securing an NBA team, but I would imagine it’s a factor Also the retail space doesn’t sound like a whole lot - it’s like four Super Walmarts lol like most proposed Vegas projects, this specific one is just as (un)likely to get off the ground as they all are; I’ll really believe it when they announce a grand opening date

 

No chance this gets built.

 

They do have a WNBA team at a casino already, the Las Vegas Aces play at Mandalay Bay. However, that does not make this whole project any less pointless and unlikely to get built.

 

don't think the extra 5000 matters to the NBA......tMobile 18K close to the average capacity of the 16 NBA teams which made the playoffs which was 18,853.

 

The only thing I can think of is that T-Mobile is pretty busy between sporting events and concerts, so an NBA team would have to schedule around that, but that's an annoying but solvable problem. And not worth spending four billion dollars on. Also, most of these venues rely on not just sporting events, but things like concerts, and that market is pretty saturated. There's T-Mobile, Park Theatre, Allegiant, Mandalay Bay Events Center and MGM Grand Garden Arena (though those have kind of fallen out of favor), not to mention plenty of smaller venues. Vegas is definitely an entertainment town, but there's only so many events that there's an appetite for.

This is the silliest part of it to me. Even Eataly, which is usually pretty busy but primarily for people dining there, always struck me as a little unnecessary in terms of the "grocery" aspect, though I use it all the time.

It'd be pretty cool, though, if we got the A's out here, and then an NBA team. From nothing to a four-sport town in less than a decade (though candidly, I'm really only going to care about the Knights).

 

and add to your list the 17,500 seat MSG Sphere in 2023.....

 

There's always people who can extract money out of go-nowhere projects like this for years.

 

A retractable roof sounds awesome. But I don’t see this happening. IIRC there was talk of this before T-Mobile was even built. Just about every NBA team shares their arena with an NHL team. The only exception off the top of my head is the NJ Devils.

 

Yes, there are many venues, but events based tourism is really one of the areas that has been driving Vegas growth. Events constantly give you something new to come back for. So it is tough to predict what the saturation point is.

That being said, when you have someone who has been talking big and doing nothing for 7 years and whose plan is to build an NBA venue when they haven't agreed to having a team there, healthy skepticism should abound.

Also, Resorts World helps but that project would really not want to open before Fontainebleau finally got somewhere.

 

Definitely fair points. I do think there's potentially room for more event space, though I'm skeptical, but I'm also more skeptical of whether they'll actually build the thing!

Not to mention, the Knights were an expansion team, the Raiders (and potentially the A's) were looking to relocate because their home cities wouldn't, or might not, spend a ton of money to replace an aging arena. That's the other thing, I can't think of any NBA teams in that situation. With the caveat that I do not follow behind-the-scenes NBA stuff, so I'm happy to be corrected.

Not really, though. I believe that every NBA team has either moved into a new arena in the past ten years or has had its arena undergo significant renovations in the past seven years.

 

There's a very real possibility of 2 expansions teams being voted into the league in the Summer of 2022 with Seattle and Vegas being the front runners.

So that part is a possibility.

 

One Super Walmart would probably be one of the more successful things they could build there.

 

the grocery store probably makes sense

between Alure, Turnberry Towers, Turnberry Place, and Sky Tower you have about 4,300 residents if you say only two residents per unit

then there is a lot of lowrise residential just north of the LVCC and then there is a lot (at a lower end demographic) north of Sahara Ave.

that is not counting anyone for the hotels, Hilton Grand, or the RV park at Circus Circus....I realize all those condos are probably not occupied year around, but when you add in hotel guest and time share and RV (with the time share and RV being people that place some value on a kitchen in a unit) you are looking at a lot of grocery shoppers in the area

get FountainDrewBlue open and if there are 2,500 rooms in the new development then you really have a bulk of people to support a grocery store

and Phoenix (of all places) has the Gila River Arena for the Coyotes Hockey and the Footprint (WTF?) Center for the Suns
