Free play and food comps at Tropicana

Hey all,

I have a decent comp offer For Tropicana from my play at a local that I dropped in at and have zero intention of playing at.

I've never played in Tropicana, and don't plan on it. I got an offer for $180 in free play and $360 in food, on what looks like a 3 night comped stay. If it was you, would you book a room just to get the free stuff, since I'll never use stay at any of their properties anyway? Just feels like a hassle, but $360 could buy a real awesome meal at whatever restaurant they have (assuming they have a steakhouse). Not sure if I'd have to pay the resort fee or not, but that could factor in as well..

Thoughts? We're staying at Cosmo, so not the WORST hike to get over there.

 

If you don't care about future Penn comps, then go for it, free is free! As for the resort fee, it's only ~$130 for 3 nights, so you're still coming out way ahead.

 

I'd do it if you don't mind dragging yourself down there.
Make sure you verify the offer structure, a number of my offers have been X $s per day, so your offer 'might' be $120 a day.
Doubt you'd have resort fees with that size of an offer or if you are preferred or up, they'll verify if you call.
On my last call they said they are charging $10 if you want to be in the close tower above the casino. Seems silly for people you want in the casino. Rooms aren't real great either way and base rooms had no fridge ...

I'd book something sooner than later as not sure when their sale to Bally's Corp. will close.
My guess would be any booked offers would transfer over.

 

Good point. It may be worth a call for me. I have zero intentions of ever using comps at mychoice so burning the bridge is no loss to me. Check in, make the room look "lived in" and head out lol

 

No resort fee, and it's all front loaded. Feel like I have to do it. 4 at Oakville may be tough to spend $360 but good problem to have. I'm assuming Tropicana you can check out on your phone or something so I don't have to hike down there to check out?

 

Have always verified the bill/credits were zeroed out ahead of time and then just left.

 

I'd say burn the offer now since they will become a Twin River holdings property sooner rather than later and that offer might go away. I am never nervous of burning offers in vegas, because you can always reestablish at a later date if necessary.

 

Their steakhouse is closed the day we wanted to use it, so looking at Robert Irvines. Any one have any idea if you can use the credits there? Between the 4 of us, it'd be tough to hit $360 but I'm okay with that challenge.

 

Yes, can use at RI unless something has changed since they reopened it.
They had it shut down/renamed as a carry out place during covid, wasn't sure it would reopen.
Food was decent, not sure now since they probably had to restaff.
(Was better when it first opened, but felt like they cut back a little bit)

 

Ended up booking it today. The lady gave me conflicting info on if I charge the food to the room or the $360 is on my mychoice card, but both confirmed its a lump sum so we'll attempt to spend it all between the 4 of us at Robert Irvines since that's the only thing open on Monday there and Sunday is my birthday and we're already eating at Blue Ribbon.

I'll have to walk down at some point Sunday to check in, and then Tuesday morning I think I'll just call front desk to confirm a zero balance and check out.

 

If I had to ask myself whether I should take advantage of an offer like this, I probably would know that I shouldn’t be going there. I’ve received offers from the Wynn for 2 free nights and $250 FSP, and it just goes into the shredder. It’s just not my kind of casino and if the axiom “Know Thyself” was ever true, it certainly should when it applies to casino offers. Just walking around the Tropicana for “free” should give most people enough of a vibe that there’s many better places in LAS to visit and play.

 

Normally they should apply to your card at check-in and then you let the restaurant know to use the credit and not points.

Unless they removed it there should be a sign for an invited/vip line to the right side of the regular check in line . They have no kiosks and in the past only had a 1-2 people at check-in. Last time I called in the afternoon to see if I could go ahead and check in early with the offer.

Wow. I was certain Robert Irvine had closed permanently.

 

The problem would be a) they have one bar...once when I was there it was closed for a private function and another time it was not open at all b) their restaurants have very limited availability including basically nothing, but grab and go on weekdays during the day c) lack of anything that you really want to play.
Just for the record, I was only dropping in there because they gave me weekly free play.

 

I was able to make a reservation which was kind of surprising. Burn the free play on something, eat dinner and get the heck out. Lol
