Downtown changes for some bad

When I stayed at Plaza last month, was told HHAGG is open for breakfast/lunch only; opens at 7 am and closes at 2 pm.

 

A lifetime in Vegas whittles away at you like a pirate’s career. Little by little they take away the things you love. When it’s no longer worth the effort you stop going. But Vegas has always been cyclical, and the formula is currently out of whack. Give it a year.

 

I read it on Las Vegas Advisor, Hope they were wrong

 

Smoking is going away. I’m sure it’s a pain as a hotel to maintain smoking and non-smoking rooms.

Ohio banned smoking at all of their casinos. You have to go to a smoking room or these outside alcoves.

Caesars Windsor was banning smoking. There is a nonsmoking casino in Vegas now.

I’d say this will likely continue. My biggest enjoyment of the COviD gambling times was going to the casino and not smelling like smoke or having it blown in my face. We really sad that smoking came back.

 

I am a smoker and consider myself a courteous one. I have seen many rude smokers. I personally have my cig while the dealer shuffles cards away from the table. I might miss a DD shuffle but if a shoe game I can be done in time for the first hand. I feel sorry for dealers and players when I see those that blow it everywhere. I am a supporter of non smoking table games. I almost always stay in a non smoking room and just take elevator down to casino when I have the urge.

I am a believer in business's to make their own policies. Patrons can then decide if they want to conform to them or take business elsewhere. I can see the day when the smoking allowed part of a casino will be a small area like many casino's have for non smoking today.

 

Ha, apparently I fall into that category -- pre-lockdown, my friend and I got turned away from more than one restaurant at SP for not living up to their dress code. I was in nice jeans, dress shoes, a button-down shirt, and a blazer; he was the same, but no blazer. Apparently SP is sometimes "black tie optional"!

It's also just changing attitudes. My condo technically doesn't restrict smoking, but nobody, and I mean nobody, smokes inside the building. Everyone goes outside.

 

I actually think that's a side benefit of mask-wearing for dealers, now that I consider it. I see fewer and fewer people smoking in Vegas on the casino floor, but it's still allowed, and I have to imagine that the masks help.

 

I definitely fall into this category, and its made 4Q and DTG much more appealing.

 

In Texas back in the day, restaurants went from smoking sections to no smoking throughout. Oh my God the whining and hell in a hand basket attitudes that came forth.
Businesses would die if no smoking and other such nonsense. Apparently we adjusted and it wasn’t politics or courtesy, you just wanted to go out to eat every once in a while.

 

To be fair, I don't think most smokers objected to restaurants going non-smoking - it was the bars, pool halls, bowling alleys, outdoor music venues & bingo parlors that smokers objected to being forced to become "non-smoking"... the businesses didn't want it... the vast majority of patrons didn't want it... only people who rarely (if ever) patronized these places wanted it banned...and they got their way.

 

Not a smoker here but stayed at MSS and my buddy used to take smoke break at the end of each floor there is a small balcony to take a puff or two.

 

so much this, sometimes you just need to relax in the room and have a few drinks and smokes in a quiet room to process where all the money just went and why you should stop.
if I go down to the floor to smoke, I know I will be restarting a perpetual motion machine of drinking, smoking, and gambling for several more hours, most likely as the sun comes up and the plans for the day get replaced with sleep...
Soooo, in conclusion, Big Up to the Cosmo Terraces, I can go out there in the freezing cold and burning heat to respect the rules, not stink up the rooms, and have a decent option.
also sometimes you hear the funniest conversations or meet the cutest tiny dog from the terrace next to you...

 

And the South Point Buffet is open, right?

If anyone has been to the South Point buffet recently, I would greatly appreciate you describing your experience.

I'm a buffet guy and I'm unashamed about it, LOL!

 

Been there for breakfast a few times. Same offerings as before the pandemic. Expect long lines.

 

I always love to get up in the am staying at main st and go go the end of the hallway and take in the sites and sounds from the balcony. I never saw another person out there ever.

 

Sure, but non-smoking policies have always been primarily targeted towards protecting employees who are there all day every day, not the patrons or business owners.

 

No longer a smoker, but usually started my mornings on the MSS "balcony", even after quitting.

 

I feel all of that but on the bright side, the one thing Vegas does have is lots of competition. When current conditions finally shake out, things that still make sense will find a way.

If there's still demand for buffets, there will be a few places that look to meet that demand.

Everything right now is still operating in the context of COVID and absolutely massive amounts of stimulus. Hard to say how long that's going to take to shake out but we will get there eventually.

 

eh, it's also protection for owners. The issue has always been no one wants to go first. Plenty of owners don't want their employees sitting in smoke all day, they don't want the fixture wear and tear that comes with smoking, and they'd be fine only offering one type (non-smoking) of rooms.

 

To be fair, it never wanted to be that. At any given time they are as cheap as they have to be (which is also why you get the steady creep of loss leaders taken away and little hidden charges tacked on).
