@smerrian, thanks for clarifying my clarification! I am glad I was wrong because this sounds even better (about the counter). I am going to assume that when you are talking about having oysters, you are talking about Big Sur Oyster Bar and not Coronado Café. We were at SP on a Monday but did not know about the point deal. Do they advertise that somewhere? Is that for any restaurant?

Yes, oysters were at the Big Sur Oyster Bar. I believe Monday's half points are for any restaurant but you can verify at the player's club desk. I used the half points at Big Sur, Coranado Cafe and Silverado Steak House just last week.

Thanks @smerrian. BTW, when you say 'just last week', were you there the week of July 5th? We were there the 5th to 7th.

Yes, I was there to eat on July 5. I was staying at Bally's but Bally's has no good video poker so I only play craps there. I generally go to South Point or Downtown for my vp play.

We were at BSOB on the 6th for lunch and then ended up there for dinner also.

@bluesdude It's weird. When I go to their website and click on promotions, it doesn't come up. When I search South Point Prime Time Mondays or Senior Day, it does. Since it's working for people, it must be valid. Maybe they don't want to advertise it and be overwhelmed by all the VMBers flocking there from other casinos.

I can't eat uncooked oysters, but I love them when they are just simmered in their own juices, with perhaps a bit of spice, but no breading, and not a bunch of flavor killing gunk. I'm think the oyster bar will do that for me. It may be the pan fried they talk about. We'll see.
Thanks for having a good discussion and clarifying the counter opportunity to beat a line.

Me either! I stay on, and eat on east coast time. No wait for breakfast at either the cafe or buffet during my stay this past week. Also got in right away at Steak ‘n Shake. Ate at the oyster bar twice, at the counter, with no wait. Granted, the picture of the buffet line is accurate during peak times.

    1. We ate Chinese last week at the Coronado and it was fantastic! They even have a separate Chinese menu apart from the regular menu. Thanks to the member reporting the “best pancakes in the country” for they were tremendously delish!

I just called the Oyster Bar to see if they did oysters the way I like them.
    They don't and they won't.
They have them raw. They have them breaded and fried in a pan, and they have Oyster's Rockefeller.
Why it is so hard to take a dozen raw oysters and sautee them in a pan of water until all the things living on them are dead?
And if they can steam a dozen clams, what stops them from steaming a dozen oysters? However, I find this limitation is almost everywhere except Charlie's Fish House in Crystal River Florida where the chef will gladly sautee them for me, even though that option is no longer on their menu.
And why does SP even call it an "oyster" bar if they have just three ways to serve oysters? Quite an exaggeration!
The upscale Prime Rib joint correctly qualifies by calling itself "primarily" Prime Rib, and yet that menu features " FIVE flavorful prime rib cuts, dry aged to ensure tenderness, seasoned and slowly roasted." And if you counted rare to well done choices, well.... so much difference from three oyster choices.

So that narrows down where I'll eat at Southpoint. Currently, Coronado Cafe's prime rib attracts me, or the Primarily Prime Rib if I have a companion or feel flush that evening.
Thanks again for all the comments.

Unfortunate that they can't or won't serve them to your preference. I totally understand your frustration. I have a multitude of food allergies to deal with and I get so bummed when something I get really hungry for just is not available.
I think the term "Oyster bar" nowadays just means seafood and they call it good.
    Just commiserating.

On Friday morning I was able to get in quickly between 7:00 and 8:00. Very short wait as well on Wednesday early am.
I will say, that I also saw some very very long lines during the lunch hour. Not sure why someone would wait in a line that long.

Any time before 8:30-8:45 should be fine.

Good info. Thanks for everyone who replied.

Eating early is no problem for me as I stick to Central Time for all my meals.
