So, I found a new variant of multi-hand video poker called Hot Roll. Love it! The multipliers are addicting as hell and I am hooked. They appear more frequently than STP and DSTP. Imo, it feels a lot more engaging as I'm on the edge of my seat when I see those dice pop up.

There is also another similar variant called Super Hot Roll. The difference is Hot Roll always applies to all hands, while Super Hot Roll usually applies to one hand but also applies to the next game for that hand in the same position. But, Super Hot Roll can also apply to all hands on the deal.

Super Hot Roll seems like a relatively new variant. Wizards of Odds does not yet have a full analysis of it.

Has anyone played both versions extensively? Which do you prefer and what are your thoughts?

I prefer neither (and I haven't played the Super version). Way more volatile than even UltX at the same price for the feature (5 coins per hand beyond the base 5 coins), though you can get some ridiculously huge hits on extremely rare occasion.

There was a lady sitting next to me playing Super Hot Roll. And she was locking up the machine every 15 minutes with handpays. I did see later that the machine denoms were $1, $2, or $5 so that explains a lot.

Both are volatile for sure. I wonder if there are 1c, 5c, 10c versions out there. Seems like they could catch a big following if the denoms were gentler.

I played it at Encore Boston Harbor and at the Wynn. 6/5 Bonus at both places. 10-play dimes in Vegas, and 5-play nickels in Boston. I ran horribly. Expect nickels to be the smallest denom for Hot Roll.

I found nickels at Ellis Island and GVR last month. I'm sure pennies and 2c is also an option, but most casinos won't offer it.

Unfortunately no one can precisely analyze it unless they explicitly state the odds of a deal multiplier (applies on all hands) vs. draw multipliers (that hand only).

I just tried Super Hot Roll and I don't like it. Seems like individual multipliers get wasted a lot.

I definitely prefer the regular Hot Roll over Super.

My last hand pay was on Hot Roll in Atlantic City, so I am partial to that game. I had a lot of lucky stars align on this one to make it a handpay though.

Calling @Flowers who definitely knows this game. When we were both at Wynn a couple of months ago, she found me across the casino to show off a giant jackpot on Super Hot Roll and described the difference to me between that and regular old Hot Roll. Just as you explained Cageet.

My buddy was playing this last weekend at Cosmo in the 10 cent denom and had a little luck. I was next to him playing some other modified version of ux something and was experiencing death by a thousand cuts.

Tring, since you are on this thread. What were the odds that I got 3 4 of a kinds on 10 play, having being dealt three 3's already? I am sure it's not astronomical, but was wondering since it was my first time getting a hit like this.

The odds of getting 3 (or more) quads out of ten is about 1 in 135.5.

They had two at Planet Hollywood the last time we visited which replaced the Build a Wheel Poker machines.

I think I was playing this at the Cosmo, don't remember what happened except a suit security guy really hassling me about my mask twice as I was smoking a cigarette,
and drinking a beer, but prob jaw agape, trying to figure out wtf was going on with the bonuses.. so I left, the property, for the rest of the trip.
    Prob was regular, not super.
and seemed plenty volatile at that.

oops, my bad, correction, it was actually "Fire Poker"

Regarding the volatility, for sure, I experienced this. When @JulianC mentioned his experience with it at Encore Boston Harbor above, I wanted to reply with my own current experience while I was still at Wynn. I even typed up the reply. But never hit post. I was superstitious and thought that if I mentioned how much I was up at that moment, I would have jinxed my luck for the remainder of the trip.

So at that moment in post #4, I was up $2733 playing quarter denom Deuces Wild. Mostly 5 hands, and then some at 10 hands. Without a single handpay, I was up over $2k in about 4-5 hours of playing it.

I got cocky that night and bumped up to $1 denom but dropped to 3 hands only. Big mistake. Jinx or not, I gave most of the $2k back and ended the night up only $400. Yes, indeed, it is volatile. But I think part of the reason was my switching from 10 hands to 3 hands and changing denoms hoping for a big handpay.

My trip is over now and I'm still hooked despite giving up another $300 playing nickel denom on getaway day. Didn't dent my enthusiasm, since that session was relatively short and I didn't feel like dipping into my bankroll before heading to the airport.

Next trip, I will definitely look for this game again with a full bankroll. Can't wait. :feedme:
