I just read that Harrahs in AC is charging $20 for hotel guests to use the pool, the fee is up to 2 guests. I’m wondering what the VMB community thinks they’ll try next. I know some of the choices may sound crazy, but years ago we would’ve thought paid parking would’ve been a crazy idea, or paying to use the pool. Soon we may pay a resort fee, and pay separately for all the things that used to be in the resort fee.

 

Guests have to pay to use the pool? Or just non-guests?

 

I could definitely see that happen if they are ever forced to remove resort fees. You want cable, $5.99 a day.

 

My wife is making a 2 night solo Trip to AC, she’s staying at Harrahs. She went to check out the pool hours, it’s $20 per room, up to 2 guests. The website says it’s to keep in line with their sister properties. I’d assume their sister properties in AC, because they are not charging yet in Vegas properties.

 

I read somewhere that there may be a law that would remove resort fees, or force companies to make them known before you book a room. Many that book a room via a third party site, and it’s buried in the fine print.

 

If you book a room thru myvegas and use a person rather than doing it online there's a fee, either $10 or $15, can't remember. I could see them charging for personal customer service vs online.

Charging for replacement players cards.

Charging for housecleaning

Charging a fee for canceled reservations even within the 48 hour period.

Adding mandatory tips to all dining, including fast food.

Charging for shuttle services.

Charging for drinks for players who can't produce a higher tier level card. (or just charging period)

Oh yeah, forgot. Charging for those ever popular notary services.

 

Don't give them any ideas!!!!!!

 

surcharge for "excessive" electricity use....no comp booze for lower tier players...

 

I could see them charging guests for pool use, but waiving that fee for Tier 2/3 in their player's club.

They won't institute any kind of pay toilet, as they are banned in most cities in the US. Also, from a business perspective, they don't want drunks pissing all over their properties because they can't enter the restroom.

Resorts World is doing this. I want to say their T&C lays out a $5 or $10 fee for a replacement card. Any casino fees, whether it be an admissions charge, for replacement cards, etc is shortsighted on their part. They need to make as few barriers and as easy as possible to get in the casino and start gambling.

 

Possibly they don't want the gambler who would balk at paying $10 to get another card. Keep the lowest rollers like myself out. It's one of those matter of principle things.

 

Not in California, I had to pay $.25 to use one a few weeks ago at a gas station. You literally had to put a quarter in to make it work.

A Fee Administration Fee to help keep all the fees organized.

 

Even if that person is a low roller and they're going to lose $20 to $50, how much does it cost them to print that card? 10-25 cents? They still lose out in the long run. Also, I know a lot of gamblers that would balk at the $10 and not pay it, but regularly lose hundreds (sometimes thousands) in one casino visit. Either way, it seems short sighted to charge a fee for the card. Maybe a happy medium would be for them to add the replacement card cost on the account in free play.

That's crazy, I don't think I've seen one in the US before. There was a big push in the mid-late 70's to get rid of them, which is when most of the bans were enacted. Hopefully you took enough TP to get your quarter's worth

 

I think charging for housekeeping is probably not too far off.

 

I was told there was a charge for housekeeping at some hotel in Austin. I didn't pay it / don't use housekeeping even when it is free.

 

As stated in the previous post where this was brought up, Resorts World Genting in Malaysia charges for replacement cards, and these cards have the player's picture on the card. Do you have any information that states that Resorts World Las Vegas is also charging a fee? I have not been able to find anything to suggest this is the case.

 

The card fees were terms for some of their casinos outside the US. I asked for a few cards on my visit yesterday, no fees.
You can actually play without a physical card at RW, once setup you can just log into a machine with you phone number and pin.

 

@Catzilla presents a good list. I think some of these are already in effect. I can see many of those happening.
CZR doesn't charge for housekeeping but provides credit if guests waive it. And some properties haven't yet reinstituted daily cleaning.

Many hotel companies have prepaid no refund room reservations... I can envision that happening.

With resort fees, not sure pool use charges will happen soon, but fewer and fewer non-premium (free) seats/loungers could happen.

I'd pay a buck or two for ice if there was a working ice machine on every floor... or more than one per floor in the mega-long-hall resorts.

Coffee pots have disappeared from most rooms, as has the ability to request a coffeemaker. Vdara has kitchenettes and provides free cookware, plates, utensils on request - but they charge for a coffeemaker. Rental coffeemakers wouldn't surprise me. Ever seen those vending achieves that sell floral arrangements? Would you rent a small coffeemaker or electric kettle if they were available on every floor?

Casinos have tried, some still have, slots that track play and permit drink orders through the machine only when play is adequate. The ticket system at bartop video poker could spread to casino floor slots.

Cheapo motels charged for TV decades ago... I wonder if that will happen again.

Anyone can walk into or through high limit rooms today. People go in to take snacks. Perhaps there'll be paid entry, or a requirement to purchase a prepaid wagering card, in order to enter high limit spaces. (Something like the cashless system at Resorts World)

If the technology and tracking is ever advanced enough, we may all be using cashless wagering cards... and casinos may be able to charge a fee to redeem if the wagering was inadequate.

Perhaps seating location in restaurants? I think, not sure, hosts, gratuities, etc control premium seating ... such as fountain views, or window-adjacent... perhaps we'll need to pay an upcharge for such seats, the way we pay for truffles to be grated on pasta.

 

I agree and when people come for 2 nights and don’t use it enough, they will charge a clean up fee upon checking out. (we always leave a tip and consider it a personal fee of choice)
I would think water is next. They are legitimately running a bit behind. Need a stack of quarters for a shower….

 

To clarify, I do not have personal experience with this. Vital Vegas pointed out the T&C of Genting Rewards that there was a fee to replace the card. After just looking over the RWLV Genting Rewards, I don't see the fee listed. Same with RW New York. So it looks like only non-US locations that charge for a replacement card.
