My lovely wife and I are on a road trip, missing prime tomato ripening season. Some friends that own a coffee shop/cafe just harvested these heirlooms from our garden for spicing up their brunch menu....

Lol!! This is my first time potato harvest. Note the bottom pic there were a lot of rotten tubers due to my overwatering. The plants died but I knew there was still about 3 more weeks before I could harvest but I figured pull them and start over. Hopefully this time I’ll get it right. And I used store bought potatoes as seed starters. Just wanted to experiment :p 652470F7-0B2D-44FD-A598-D97646CEC19F.jpeg 3BF6785A-CC3E-4D63-8695-2A181678FC6F.jpeg

I've got some blossom end rot going on with one of my tomatoes so trying gypsum. I've been good about watering so hoping it just needs a wee bit more calcium.

I have 5 kinds of basil, chives, peppermint and oregano growing on the porch this year - we love it because we sit on the porch every day and have plant life now, and it's right off the kitchen for ease of cooking! PXL_20210626_211146036.jpg

Outside of garlic scapes, leaf lettuce and radishes, nothing ready for harvest in these parts. Overall pretty happy with exception of peas which seemed to have been stunted by hot (for here) may. Neighbours goats discovered our broccoli and cauliflower leaves - very discerning tastes! Luckily had bonus plants ready for replant. Fence went up!

crossing fingers for remainder of season. I have succession seeds ready to go.

    garlic
    Watermelon
    Cantaloupe
    Broccoli
    Cauliflower
    Butternut
    Zucchini
    Cucumber
    4 different tomatoes
    Radish
    Beets
    Russets and fingerlings
    Sweet peppers
    Hot peppers
    3 different onions
    Cabbage
    Herbs in the raised beds
    Lettuce and kale raised beds

Agree! You have a really nice garden, @bobby jones !

My soil is red dirt. Lacks lots of nutrients and needs lots of amendments. About 4-6 inches down it turns into red clay.

So I'm slowly working and turning the soil with natural nutrients in hope that one day the soil will turn into beautiful loam.

New England does not have a long growing season. We can't plant too early as the ground is not warm enough in May and the plants die ---- frozen to death.. Dh planted this year in very early June and because it has been the hottest June on record here, we are already picking yellow squash. They are beautiful and delicious. We already have golf ball sized green tomatoes----a shock again since we start to look for the yellow tomato blossoms about now and here are tomatoes already on the vine.

Turns out I was correct. My daughter and I plucked a few hundred of these beauties off the tree last evening. I hope to get most of the rest over the next couple of days.

They could ripen for another few days or so but we will be out of town (guess where?) and we want to get them before they fall to the ground.

It continues to be a tough year here in Ontario to garden. July has been so rainy and cooler than normal. I have resorted to taking a lot of my potted vegetables in to the garage to help them deal with the rain. My lettuce bolted which was expected, but I ended up with more than usual although it was bitter. 20210616_211018.jpg

My rutabaga are loving the cooler weather and wet conditions. Here is a smaller one. I have several which are much larger.

Overall the garden plot is nice and green.

I have harvested a few cabbage, this one was quite tasty.

This is the first year I tried this hybrid purple cauliflower and it was so good.

I moved my grow tent from the garage into the spare bedroom as my daughter moved out and it has been nice to have it in a temperature controlled room. The garage proved tough to germinate seeds and to move them into seedlings. I found it was too warm. It fit nicely into the closet with doors removed.

What part of the province are you in? I’m in Niagara. My cabbage , cauliflower and broccoli while healthy have have only started to form heads. My peas, same thing. I started many indoors in March and transplanted in May. We had some super warm May weather which I think affected cold weather plants.(plus of course the goats and sheep which loved the early leaves but did have back ups which got transplanted after)

I just planted fall successions indoors last week. This is my first year doing major succession planting. I have seeds that will be direct sow as well. Just need space to open up in next few weeks!

I am in Burlington. I did get a jump start on the season by using my grow tent and starting my seeds early. These cauliflower were started in early March.

Is your garden over on Maple Avenue? I was driving up and thought the pic looked similar. I used to live and still work in Burlington

That is a great haul of garlic. We only have about 8 plants and I am going to leave them for maybe another 2 weeks to help bulb growth a little more.

There is a garlic farmer down the road from us. When I saw their field and them in it picking, that was my Q!
