Wow, what an adventure! Thanks for sharing with us. I kept thinking, "I bet she slept hard at the inn that night!", heh.

Thanks for the link for the tour. I bookmarked it for the future. Hope you feel better soon!

The Racetrack was a distance but IMO it was well worth it. That took most of our second day but it was worth it.

The road heading to the Racetrack isn't as smooth as the main road. It was indeed bumpy but nothing IMO that a jeep couldn't handle. Indeed, we saw one couple approach the Racetrack as we were leaving and they were driving a sedan!

I actually looked at a You Tube video of a drive across the Lipincott Pass. There were daredevil types in a few large vehicles that we doing the drive in unison. At various points it looks like these folks were driving at about 5 mph. That pretty much tells you what the road is like. I watched it to the end and there are some parts that were just bad and not horrific but having looked at the entire pass on You Tube I am VERY THANKFUL that our egos didn't get in the way and that we were like minded in saying that just because we CAN do something doesn't mean we SHOULD do something. LOL.

Thank you again for your amazing and super informative posts from some months ago. It was literally because of your posts that I got started on this journey. :blowkiss:

The sore throat is gone but unfortunately I got more sick. This isn't a bad cold but instead feels like the flu. Go figure. I was knocked out most of the day but am feeling a tad better now. Thank God I'm still WFH.

Yeah, they take up so much space that I WORE THEM ON THE PLANE TO AND FROM VEGAS! I like to travel comfortably but stylishly, especially when going to Vegas, and so it was hard to work the hiking shoes into my look LOL but it was, I hope, a kind of rugged casual chic. ;) Actually, in thinking about wearing them as opposed to packing them as you really DO need hiking shoes for some of these locations, I thought of you, thinking you would be proud of my baby effort to pack/travel more efficiently. :)

The salt flats were indeed amazing. It had rained the night before so what I saw in a couple of places was a salty/white/muddy area.

Yeah, I had a cocktail and wine with a big dinner and somehow gathered the energy to take a shower before bed. I almost fell asleep standing in the shower, it felt so good. In five minutes I had moisturized and put on my PJs and was so wiped out I don't even remember dozing off. I just went out, like a light, and slept very hard. LOL.

Thanks for the amazing write up and pics! I've only driven through DV on a July day where the temp was 120F+. Needless to say, we stepped out of the car for a short time! And, since it was the near beginning of an 11 hour driving day (Vegas to east of Sacramento), we couldn't stay for long.

The immediately preceding are also Ryan's pics. I have more amazing ones but the files were too big to post. But, this is a pretty good representative sample.

Out of a sense of pride at some point I'll post one of my Milky Way pics off of my camera. LOL. Seriously though, it might be helpful to see how you can take good pics with a not super-expensive camera, if you have a great lens.

The portable telescope I purchased can work in a way that you can take a picture of whatever the telescope can see so I definitely want to get that working and figured out before the trip with my mom in a bit more that three weeks!

Lovely pics.:clap::clap: That second pic from the bottom of post #1190 looks like you have a miner's hat on with the light....lol. BTW, what is that with the blue tail, a comet?

    I missed the blue tail!

I saw a few shooting stars though. That was awesome.

I am embarrassed as I should have had my red flashlight but I had left it in the truck. That was a TINY headlamp I was wearing so I could see as I was climbing some rocks at his direction so he could take the picture. But with the angle the tiny hiking headlamp radiated a lot! I put it away when I was safely back in my chair.

Cool. I thought it might be something like that but I wasn't sure. That is one awesome photo, definitely worthy of a frame.

That is hilarious, even more so because I spent my 3 day weekend mapping out a 3 month trip later this year and actually thought I should consider luggage that is a little bit bigger than a carry on, just to accommodate the shoes. I probably won't because I know how much I will haaaaaaaate lugging it though airports, lifting it to overhead racks on trains and dragging it up steps in hotels without elevators.

    I need a porter.

Sitting here with a cup of coffee again looking at the latest batch of AMAZING photos. Both the full moon and the Milky Way photos are alone reason enough to go to DV. I'm happy to got to do both. That view of Milky Way is similar to what we managed to see at Capitol Reef a few years ago. It absolutely changed my life.

Unfortunately we did not have the same experience as you in DV. One night was cloudy. One night had partial clouds so we at least we got to see some stars. The last night late in the afternoon the wind kicked up late in the afternoon. I thought "great the wind will keep the clouds away". LOL be careful what you wish for. The wind kicked up a sand storm from the Mesquite Dunes. You could see it as far away as Ubehebe Crater. That was a crazy experience. Sand blew in under the door of our room. Oh well, we will just have to go back another time and give it another shot. Hopefully then The wildflower bloom will be better too.

Sorry to here you are not feeling better. Take it easy for awhile and recuperate.

I've been waiting for these photos and they did not disappoint. Gorgeous, amazing, beautiful, breathtaking - words simply can't describe the pictures. Such a wonderful trip you had and more of the same to come with your mother. She will love looking at the night sky - hopefully, I can do this one day. Congratulations to your mom and dad for 65 years of marriage. Now that is also amazing. :)

Incredible pictures of everything. Really mind blowing!! Thank you so much for taking the time and letting us experience these views. Hope you feel better. Our weather here in NYC has been so weird. Some days cold and rainy, and now a mini heat wave is coming. Crazy temperature changes from day to day!!
