I have to question why they didn't start this when occupancy limits were much less though. Seems like a remodel reaction to Resorts World opening up across the street.

I read the article and found something interesting. I think in another life, the Wynn CEO might have been a politician or at least a grifter. It said that the remodel was supposed to start in 2019, but was put on hold because of the pandemic. Correct me if I'm wrong
but covid didn't reach the US until 2020, did it? Could've been a typo by the paper I guess.

Wynn has operations in China so perhaps they were extrapolating the situation outward from there.

Hopefully it won't affect my comps while this is happening due to a shortage of available rooms.

I would assume that this "full remodel" only applies to the Wynn and not Encore if I'm not mistaken? I've seen some new outlets mixing up the two towers as part of one remodel but not exactly sure, looking forward to stay in the future regardless.

Maybe the pandemic he meant was Steve Wynn.

I don’t know how many rooms but if 2000 rooms are redone at 200 million that would be around 10K per room to “redo” not build from scratch. And I wouldn’t think the normal crowd would be particularly rough on the rooms themselves. So that’s some upgrade.
    Wow.
Course down the street they spent some coin just redesigning the buffet....:feedme:

If it were 2,000 rooms that would be $100K per room. It’s probably more like 4,700 with both Wynn and Encore so around $40K per room.

$10K wouldn’t be much as the beds alone could easily run $5K. Then carpet, bathrooms, technology, etc.

I read this and thought, man, that isn’t very much per room, so double-checked on my calculator. The per room amount using the 2000 room estimate would be 100k per room, which is more in line with a very nice remodel expectation. 10k wouldn’t even change out the furniture. :(

I'm very curious as to what they come up with for the decor. That Steve Wynn/Roger Thomas design team is going to be a tough act to follow.

Funny thing is that I stayed at Wynn twice in 2019 and didn't think it needed a makeover. The only thing that really needed replacement was the shower head. (It was like a fire hose with warm water.) Otherwise, the furniture was like new, the bed was comfortable and the technology was first rate.

The one thing is that Wynn has always been on a 5 year cycle and this is year 6.

I hate to say it, but MGM should learn from this. Aria, while still nice hasn't done a full renovation of rooms since opening. They have refreshed carpets and technology, but the rooms were the same on my last trip than they were on my first trip. Some of the furniture was pretty worn and the icemaker was broken. The other issue was that the connection panel for the TV, along with the USB ports were all broken.

We stayed at Wynn a few years back, it was very nice. Though I thought the room felt a bit "old", not old in the sense of being worn.

Since the pandemic, supply chains have been affected in many areas! I was going to purchase a new car, but the Wall Street Journal is saying that, due to current lack of microchips, new car pricing is skyrocketing! Me thinks I’ll put off a purchase for awhile!

I just stayed at Aria and was disappointed in my suite - bubbled wallpaper, worn furniture etc. Host said suite upgrades are planned. We’ll see!

I can't find it right now but a VMBer had a post a few months ago that showed the some of the design features of the upgrades. Though Roger Thomas has since retired the main person overseeing the renovation, at least per the article, was the primary designer of the Encore rooms, so that was saying something good to me.

@MidnightBJ I once read that the initial build cost for the entire resort worked out to something like $1m per room, so $100k for a thorough refresh feels plausible to me

Here's a quick preview from Wynn Design and Development revealing the rooms and suites for the upcoming renovation.
