    My Trip Report

So I have been on the fence about starting this live TR. The original title was going to be three casinos, two states, and one theme park. But then I got sick last week, just a couple days before I was scheduled to visit the Hard Rock Hollywood for the first time since they opened the guitar tower. So leg one of my May getaway was postponed (until August). But there are still the remaining legs: Disney World this weekend, Palazzo next weekend, and Aria for Memorial Day weekend. Still not entirely over being sick, but we have decided to go ahead with the Disney vacay. So I decided to power through the sneezing and coughing and start a multi-week live TR of the remaining May adventures!

I am planning for this report to be mostly photos. I mean, how many different ways can I describe gambling, eating food, and sitting by a pool? If anything unique or unusual happens, I will definitely write up the details. And of course I will try and answer any questions and respond to any interactions with you the loyal readers (those are my favorite part of writing a live TR). Otherwise, we will find out how well I can tell a story with just photos.

And since some of you are only interested in certain aspects of the report, here is an idea of what to expect (and hopefully a guidemap of when you may want to jump in or out of the report).

    Walt Disney World

We leave in the morning! Like, way too early. But it will be worth it. It’s been unseasonably cool here all week and I am hoping the Florida sun will cut through my lingering illness. We are staying three nights at the Grand Floridian resort on the Disney property. We actually got an awesome deal, paying less than 50% of the rack rate. And it’s the nicest Disney hotel, IMO, so we are excited. We are planning some pool time, Disney Springs, two days at the Magic Kingdom for myself, one day for my partner and the little fanatic, and dining reservations at Morimoto and The Jungle Skipper Navigation Company Cantina (and I think my partner and the little fanatic are also going to Wolfgang Puck while I am at the park). Should be fun! And since the park is now open til 9pm each evening, my goal is to include a lot of cool night pics form the park.

    Palazzo

This leg of the May journey starts next weekend. My host is putting me up in a Grand One Bedroom suite (whatever that is). The plans include some pool time, shopping at the canal shops and fashion show mall, maybe a pop in at the Wynn, baccarat, blackjack, other gamblings, sports ticket cashings, and dining reservations at Grimaldis, Bouchon, and Sushisamba

    Aria

The memorial day weekend getaway! This is a rescheduled trip from March that ended prematurely at the airport with a cancelled flight. The plan is three nights in a pano skysuite, pool time, the pinball hall of fame, a pop in at Mandalay Bay, lots of chocolate shopping, dining reservations at Carbone, Bardot and Catch, and the part of the trip I am most looking forward to: the Aria spa! A few of you know that I am a little bit spa obsessed and I have not been to one since January 2020. So I am excited to spend half a day there.

That’s it for the preview. Gotta start packing soon. Feel free to toss any questions my way and I will do my best to answer them. Hope you enjoy following along.

My new pink luggage arrived yesterday. Thinking this bag might be a bit large for this weekend. But I foresee myself filling it with chocolate at Aria very soon lol

Love the Grand Floridian! Just to sit in the lobby is a great experience. Don't know if you've stayed there before, but if you can get a room in the Boca Chica building it has some terrific views of the Magic Kingdom. Have a great trip and thanks for sharing your adventure with all of us!

Looking forward to the report...we love going to Disney and, of course, Vegas.

We’ll be in the Sky Suites over Memorial Day weekend.

Another fan of the Grand Floridian. My sister got married there a few years ago, beautiful property. Enjoy!

Thanks. We have stayed there previously. This will be our first Disney trip since the pandemic. I think they eliminated the band that played in the lobby in the afternoons, but I have read reports that they still have the piano player at times.

Part of the deal to get the ridiculous rate was staying in one of the outer buidings. So we akready requested Conch Key. Its a walk from the main building, but its near the quieter pool and its right next to the boat dock to the park. There is a new path around seven seas lagoon that will take you right to the entrance of the park. I am tempted to try it, but considering how much I will already be on my feet, the boat seems more likely

Now I need to decide which Disney visor to take. I am leaning toward the Epcot 35 anniversary visor

Very interested in both parts. My daughter is going to have a “gap” semester in the spring between finishing her 2 year associates degree and heading to a 4 year school (and want quite the plan but with remote learning, etc this worked out). This means that come spring, well have flexibility to head to DW not during a spring break time. Just started talking about this yesterday actually, so great timing for me :)

Spring is a great time to go. Usually, anytime after easter through the third week of May is fantastic there! Its warm, but not crazy hot. And the crowds aren't nearly as big as spring break and summer. We go almost every May. If you don't mind heat, the end of August is also a good time to go. Crowds are smaller because everyone is either back in school or waiting til Labor Day to visit

We did August last time. To be blunt, I'm too fat to try that again :)

Have a great time! If you do indeed pack that suitcase full of chocolate, I’d love a picture lol. That is something I don’t think I’ve seen on vmb.

Since your partner seems to be a big fan of sweets, make sure you all grab a spot in the virtual queue for Gideon’s when you go to Disney Springs. You seem pretty good about researching everything, so I’m sure your aware, but wanted to bring it up just in case you hadn’t seen it.

Would she have any interest in the WDW College Program? Both my daughter and son participated in this a few years ago and they both loved the experience. My son even met his future wife during this program...changed his life in many great ways :).

Thanks. I am a big fan of the Gnachery next door and she likes Amorette's. Hadn't even thought about the virtual line for Gideon's. I thought that was only when it first opened a few months back. But we might look into it!
