Staying at MGM Grand right now. I’ve been to Vegas a ton in the last year since reopening. This is my first trip since they’ve gone to 80%.

    Here are some random observations:

-Slot machines all open now. No plexiglass between them.
    -Table games still have plexiglass.
-Hand washing stations in the casino have been taken out. Still plenty of hand santizer
    -Pool hit capacity yesterday afternoon.
-The 20-29 elevator bank is still an unmitigated disaster. They have two elevators reserved for the Skysuite floor, which makes this bank get way backed up with people trying to get up to their rooms. AND - they’ve changed it so the two Skysuite elevators ONLY go up to floor 29. You can no longer sneak onto them and go up to your floor.
-VIP lounge open on weekends 9am-9pm, weekdays 9am-7pm.
-Seems like there is a lot less mask enforcement going on than on previous trips. I’ve seen several people walking around the casino maskless.

I've seen that as well at Aria, but it's usually a matter of security not noticing quickly. The other night, there was a couple not even pretending with masks, everyone on the floor was scowling at them, and after about ten minutes security came over to scold them. My guess is that with vaccination up, it's moved a bit lower on their priority list, so they're not going to race over with ten seconds, but it's still something they're keeping an eye on and will deal with if noticed.

Hope it stays that way until my next stay there!

We're getting very close, but we're not quite there yet. When companies let up their guard, it just tells some people not to worry 'cause it's all over.

It will. It’s a permanent change. They got rid of the doors separating those two elevators. Now you have to scan your key to even open them.

    Pool observations:

-Pool opens at 9am. I went down at 8:45 and the line to get it was already long. Once 9am hit, the line moved fast and they got us in quickly. I was able to easily get a seat at the lazy river.
-By 10am the lazy river reaches capacity. There were still lots of open seats everywhere else.

-This basically means they have completely stopped policing mask wearing while sitting down:

This is great. I’m all for masking up indoors and when crowded, but sitting in a lounge chair (or worse, in a private cabana as I read in some trip reports) outside is, jmho, not really necessary.

One more random observation: plastic cocktail cups are out in the casino. They’re back to using glasses. I actually preferred the plastic ones cause they were bigger.

And I took a closer look at the slots. MGM still has a few turned off here and there, but not as many as in the past. I went to Aria today and they still have a ton turned off.

Interesting. Given that I pretty much only drink ginger ale these days, I liked the plastic for exactly that reason. On the other hand, the glasses were great because I could steal them :D My condo is stocked entirely with Aria glassware.
Yeah, they're still at pre-reopening levels across Aria, or at least they were as of Saturday. If I had to guess, they're waiting to get to 100% and then do them all at once, since it's kind of a pain to take a machine in or out of service.

Were they scanning room cards to get into pool when you were there? I went twice in April. One day they did and one day they didn't.

When I was there they actually scanned them which was a pain because mine was on my phne via the app and wasn't readily available. I wasn't prepare for it because on the Monday I was there they actually didn't do that.

They scan them now. No more using old keys from previous trips to get in.

May be taking an impromptu Grand trip next week in a Stay Well if a job offer comes through this week as expected. My only worry is it's a weekday trip, and the last few times I was there (post-COVID), almost nothing was open food-wise on weekdays. Like, the whole District was shut down. Don't know if that's still the case. Wolfgang Puck's B&G is always open but I can't eat their fantastic Bolognese EVERY day.

You can if you put your mind to it!

Honestly, next week is a long time away, and there's a delta between what the website says is open, and what's actually open. I'd just go in with an open mind.

I did MGM for 3 days and Aria for 4 days last week and I’d say about 30% of people didn’t even pretend to wear a mask. On the casino floor, walking around the property, on elevators it actually kinda blew my mind.

Interesting. I've noticed Aria folks to be pretty good, with the exception of people standing around outside smoking (which doesn't bug me a ton), but I'll keep an eye out on things going forward. I imagine things might take a turn once it starts to get hotter out. I kinda like my mask collection, though!

So glad to see this. The idea of laying out in the June Sun of Vegas wearing a mask just didn't seem appealing. The tan line would be interesting, at least.
