Grabbing Great Beer Downtown

Didn’t see it on the streets either. In my last trip I had to watch for @jimboguy To not get hit by a bus on Fremont. Which is a tough goal to achieve.
Sometimes they just have to swerve. And pretzel legs don’t help

 

Man, I scoured that site and this line eluded me or maybe I'm just an idiot.

 

I don’t recall seeing it last time I looked, but it was there today.

 

Beer District Brewing had very good beers, and excellent guest taps from the festival I early March. Really liked the place, want to return again. Also had a great time my second visit to CraftHaus at the Henderson Autoplex. The beer my first visit was meh.

Got home after several winter weeks in Vegas and California on March 10, things shut down here within a week. Been to a few breweries and one local bar that adhere to proper protocols, but that’s about it since.

I will be hitting Las Vegas next weekend for ten days, will provide updates including a few new places I want to try:

1. Beer Zombies on Dean Martin near the Raiders stadium. I was there for the Beer Festival on Leap Year Day, dry nice space.
2. Beer Zombies in Summerlin. Was supposed to open in May, reported to be open in October, we shall see. Hope it does better than HopNuts Summerlin which was dead the few times there.
3. HUDL is in the Downtown Arts District, they began brewing beers this week, hope they are open by the time my trip ends.
4. Three Sheets Craft Bar downtown.

I definitely want to hit Tenaya Creek and Beer District as well, and maybe a few others depending on what I encounter. Didn’t gamble a penny last trip, don’t plan on it this time either. Staying mostly at The Sahara on a great locals special ($270 all in for five nights), a few nights at my brothers and the final near the airport on points (Hyatt Place). Hope to return in Winter, may drive there along Route 66 and make it a road trip.

I've been back in LV for a few days now. I'm guessing that some of the beer I'm drinking in the casino's have been in the same kegs since March. I'm starting to notice some off flavors in beer that I used to love. Hopefully the non casino brew pubs are better with quality control.

Another brewpub has opened in the Arts District. They had just done last call when I arrived, so I can't review it other than to say they have a lot of choices. By my count this brings the total of brewers on Main Street up to 5. A block west of Hopnuts there is also a craft beer bar and a non-brewing location.

Are you referring to Nevada BrewWorks, HUDL, Beer District Brewing, or something even newer that I haven't heard of? Did The Silver Stamp open?

All right! I definitely do deserve some shit for periodically disappearing. Since we are talking beer here, I suggest forgive and forget.

 

I was referring to HUDL. They weren't open last month, but already have good crowds and a good beer lineup. A friend came into town and we did a pub crawl last night. Unfortunately everything is shut down by 9:00 or 10:00.

We started at Beer District Brewing. They had a F'ing awesome stout collection including several Imperial Stouts. I had two, a coconut infused IS I was told was the most popular and a hefty 14%er. Sorry that I was noteless and don't have names or details. Where I come from everybody and their mother brews big stouts and this place would be all the buzz in Alaska. My friend had a couple different IPA's. He and I both had our best beers of the night there.

We didn't stop at hop Nuts. I was there a few days ago, though. There are only a couple guest taps on right now. There isn't anything new in their lineup and a few of their taps were down. I still like the place, but I'm not going to regurgitate my earlier reports.

CraftHaus had a great double IPA and my friend had their Resonate IPA. Their tap list changes a lot. I've been there when they had 6 beers that I loved. This time there was only the DIPA.

We got to HUDL before closing this time. They had a barrel aged Imperial Stout that I really liked. My friend liked his IPA. I was going to get a flight, but it excluded the barrel aged and a triple IPA. I'm normally a sucker for triple IPA's. I got to taste it, but it was way too sweet.

The place next door to HUDL was closed for a special event. It was open last month, but didn't have anything that prompted me to order. Not sure if the tap list has expanded..

Able Baker is still alive and well and stayed open to the wee hour of 10:00 PM. I drink big beers there and they still have several. I had the Impale and their Imperial Stout a few days ago. last night I had the even better barrel aged IS. Once again I've talked about these beers before.

If you want to sit outside, it is possible at all these places. CraftHaus has expanded their outdoor seating. It is plentiful at HUDL and the place next to it. Semi limited at Hop Nuts and Able Baker. Beer District has an unshaded counter next to the sidewalk facing the street that you can pull a chair out to. I wouldn't want to sit there, but you can if you want.

I didn't make it to the craft beer bar close to CratHaus. I don't know about the Silver Stamp.

Hope some of you folks update this with your beer preferences. I'm mostly drinking IPA's and Imperial Stouts now days.

 

Believe they did open. John Curtis has posted on IG from there a few times, looks like my kind of place. I’d go just for the devil eggs.

Anybody know what the current seasonal is at Chicago Brewing? It is usually never listed and you have to ask the bartender. Just curious if anyone had been recently and asked. If not, I will ask when I get there this weekend and report back.

 

In typical Chicago Brewing fashion there was a seasonal. It wasn't listed and the bartender had no idea what it was. Gave me a sample and I had no idea what it was. Was tasteless to be honest. I guess I'll stick to the IPA.

 

Sometimes the seasonal is great. I too gave this one a pass and drank their IPA.

Glad you liked your visit to Beer District Brewing, to me they are one of my favorites in Vegas. Nevada Beer Works next to HUDL worth checking out, really liked their rye beer last trip.

New places I am trying to target this trip include Silver Stamp and if it's open Beer Zombies in Summerlin. Hope to make it to Henderson as well, missed it last time and it's much harder without the HDX bus cancellation (same with the WAX cancelation, neither has been restored and it's likely they will not be).

I have a very short trip (8 nights) so likely won't be able to hit everything I want, now regretting I didn't add a few more days to the trip when planning.

 

is it walkable from the breweries in the arts district back up to downtown? not just distance - which yea, i can just look on google maps - but the neighborhood itself.

i've lived in cities most of my life so i'm fairly savvy walking around and knowing where to go and where to not - but, ya know, when you're a little tipsy and carrying a wad of cash in your pocket you just want to do your research in advance, knowhatimean?

 

I walked it yesterday. I'm slow and took close to 1/2 hour from GG to Hop Huts walking Main. I did leave my gambling wad at the hotel, but it doesn't seem remotely dangerous. I try to make a brew pub crawl each trip and never had a problem. My route is Main now as its business expansion as moved closer to Fremont.

 

I'm back in Vegas and spent last night (and late afternoon) in Arts district breweries. Since last month, there are seats at bars again and they're open later. There are also so many places, that I skipped Hop Nuts and CraftHaus and craft beer bars.

Able Baker continues to have good crowds. I sat at the outside bar. The inside bar still does not have seats back. They had a BA Honey Dip Imperial Stout. I absolutely love their Honey Dip series, but this was the last one left on the board. They also had a new Imperial Stout series called K-Ration. My choice was good, but no honey dip. The bartender liked to mix the coffee and chocolate K-Rations. He gave me a sample and it was good.

HUDLE had made a change to their flight policy and now allowed any beer to be included for their $10 five once, 4 sampler flight. I had a DIPA, Barley Wine, and 2 Imperial Stouts, BA and Nitro. All were good although the BW was on the too sweet side. Nothing was award winning, but I was very happy with the flight. They give bottles of water.

I finally had a beer at Nevada Beer Works. Actually 4 beers because I opted for another flight at $12. The place had a lot of business. Turns out that the time that I couldn't get in was because it was on Bar Rescue. I suspect that what needed rescuing about this new pandemic opening place was its financing. Regardless, it was the busiest place on Main.
I had 2 of their IPA's and 2 guest beers, and IPA and Belgium Triple. I also ordered the skinny cheeseburger with onion rings for $10. Everything was fine to good.

Last stop was Beer District Brewing which is actually north of Charleston. They were a lot busier this time. They still have a lot of stronger dark beers including a dopplebock, several imperial stouts, and a couple Scotch Ales. I had a couple IS's and called it night.

Actually not a night exactly. I made a buzzed walk back to GG, lost a couple hundred playing .25c BP progressive, and drew the 10 of Diamonds to complete a $1,215 RF. I was actually chasing a $55 quad and the wait for the payout was driving me nuts. It got hit shortly after I started playing again, but I hit Aces a couple of times before going to bed. So don't drink and play.. or some such moral.
