Where did you grow up? Where are you now and where do you hope to retire?

I am sure this has been asked before but I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Since we have people on here from all over the world, I thought it might be interesting to find out where we have lived and where we hope to live someday.

I'll get us started.

I lived in Sligo, Ireland until I was 5 years old and my family moved to Roselle Park, New Jersey.

After high school I joined the military and was stationed on Guam for a few years and then I came to Great Falls, Montana. I have been here for most of the past 30 years.

I am about 10 years from retirement and I hope to move somewhere warmer, although I am not sure where.

How about you?

 

I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I moved to the DMV after college and I've been here 23 years. I'm 5 years from years for retirement but waaaaay further than that in age, so not really on my radar.

 

I grew up right outside of Boston....I live in the north central part of Massachusetts. I retired with a teacher pension from Mass and am now doing the same job in a small New Hampshire school district at full salary. I will stick around here during retirement but planning extensive world wide travel in the next few years when I fully retire

 

Seems this thread is more, where did you come from where have you been in nature.

I was born in Ireland but was brought to the US before school age. I grew up in Paris TX, then moved to Edmonson Tx where I married the love of my life and raised our family. We retired once and then I turned my hobby into a business and now I spend my time split between home and Slidell Louisiana. All our kids live within a mile or so from us and my wife says we will never move away from those grandbabies.

 

My years have been spent all over So Cal -- Riverside, Murrieta, Alhambra, Diamond Bar -- (12ish years) then Oregon -- Milwaukie, Gresham, Eugene, Government Camp, Portland -- (16 or so years) then back to So Cal -- Riverside, Temecula -- the south Central Coast and now the Central Valley. Have discussed retirement at some length on that current thread (Western Oregon, Bend, Puget Sound, Tucson, Coachella Valley, Lompoc).

Add: I missed a stint in Sonoma County during part of the college-age years.

 

They tell me that I was born in Cambridge, but I sure don't remember it!

Seriously, I am approaching retirement, just as soon as this {f-bomb}ing pandemic blows over! I've been giving them a "two year warning" for several years now at my annual review and this year I gave them a one year warning.

I am now 95-98% confident that I cannot outlive my $$$$$, and if there's one tarnished silver lining in this cloud of the pandemic it's that I have saved a LOT of money this past year! I keep double-checking my math almost in disbelief!

As of now I have no real clue where I will relocate to, but I have ruled out a number of places including Las Vegas. I may keep the place here (rental) for a while as a home base as I might test-drive one or more locations.

Mid December is my target, assuming the Covid situation continues to cool down.

 

I have deep root here in Chicago where I was born and raised. I never lived in any other city/state, but I've traveled all over the US on company business and for vacation over the years. I'm currently retired, but after weighing all of the pros and cons of moving somewhere else, I decided to stay in Chicago. As I mentioned in the other retirement thread that was posted not long ago, Vegas, Reno, Mesquite, Seattle, and Arizona were places that I had considered for retirement.

Some of the reason why I didn't relocate is that most of my friends are here, I know the city very well, and the healthcare facilities in my area are also very good. My condo is also paid off and I'm located in a pretty good area in the city, so I'll probably be here for awhile. LOL I'll keep Vegas and some of my other favorite travel destinations for when I go on vacation.

 

My mother keeps telling me that I need to grow up so I am not sure if I can answer this one!

I have always lived in Sydney except for a year spent working in Pacayacu. Ecuador: Tribe sees how oil industry affects forest on ‘Toxic Tour’ (mongabay.com) -if interested in where.
I sold the only property I have ever owned (on Sydney Harbour) about 5 yrs ago and am now homeless (by choice).
As to the future - no idea. I'd just like to be allowed out of Australia some time soon

I was born and raised in Chester in the UK, I moved to Blackburn in Lancashire in early 90's and been here since except for a year when I lived in Derby. Where I will end up I don't know.

 

Born In Columbus, Ohio. I have lived in Athens, Ohio, Pocahontas County, WV Lawrence, Kansas and soon to be McKinney, TX.

I hope to retire on a beach in Mexico

I was born in Mexico. I was raised in Southeast Arizona. I attended the University of Arizona. My husband and I moved to Southern California after he graduated from the U of A. I retired about 3 years ago, after working for 30 years in schools. He wants to keep working a few more years. For now, we plan to reside close to where our young grandchildren live. After 43 years in California, I do still miss the Arizona sunsets and monsoon season!

 

Elko's a nice little town. They even have a Walmart. LOL I've driven I-80 to/from Salt Lake City to Reno a number of times when I'm out that way on vacation and I occasionally stay at the Red Lion. I've hit a couple of Royals in their casino on a past trip too.

 

I lived in Buffalo NY, Huntsville AL, and Akron OH growing up. Then went to college in Ames IA at Iowa State. Internships took me to Pittsburgh PA , Minneapolis MN and Charleston SC. Now I live in Dallas TX. Plus travel constantly for my job in the before times.

I pretty much like every city I’ve ever lived in and have no real plans to retire anytime soon but I am tempted to buy a vacation condo in the Turks and Caicos. I visited there for work one time and it was beautiful.

 

Grew up on Long Island, live in Brooklyn. When I retire, I am giving up my home and buying a one way ticket to see the world.

Born and raised in a nickel mining town in northern Ontario. Went to university in a steel town in southern Ontario. Spent a good part of my early career in Toronto then started a practice in bedroom community an hour outside Toronto. Currently live in Niagara wine country. Retirement is still a ways away, if ever. General plan is to stay north of the border most of the year with a couple months south somewhere. Most likely Florida simply because of easy access. I can catch a flight every half hour at either end close enough to home or destination - almost commuting time....
