I've had a small # of hand pays. VERY small. I think the most was $1500.

Every time I've gotten one, the slot attendant comes and then there are 2 people who seem like security.

From where they stand, doesn't seem like they could see the payment any better than the eye in the sky. And they aren't offering to escort me to the main safe or anything like that :D

    Why are they there?

And while I hate to start yet another tipping thread (YATT), should I tip those folks too, or do they pool it all?

I'm planning on big fat handpays this time, and I want to act like I've been there before.

Typically, other slot attendants, but mainly a witness for the money transfer.

Tip those others along with the one who brings you the hand pay, just the one who brought you the hand pay, or none at all. It's completely up to your comfort level and generosity. Personally, I've had 1 hand pay for $2400 and I tipped the lady who brought my paperwork and cash, $20. YMMV.

Most of the small ones I've gotten were just the single slot attendant (MGM, Golden Nugget, and an Indian casino in the Midwest). I've had some bigger ones at the Indian casino where it was the slot attendant, a slot supervisor (or senior attendant), and a Security officer, which is mostly just to make sure everything is on the up and up. The supervisor checked the machine to verify the amount and make sure the innards haven't been tampered with, and the security officer is partly to provide security for the attendant because they are carrying cash through the casino from the cage back to you, and part to witness the transfer to make sure there's nothing fishy going on.

I just tip the main slot attendant, I don't think security can (or should) accept tips, and a supervisor (depending on the property) also usually isn't allowed to accept tips (though I feel Vegas is looser on those conflict of interest issues, so I don't know if it's the same there). Pooling is also property specific, I'm not sure about the slot attendants in Vegas though because I have never asked them (maybe one day I'll need them enough in a single night to ask, lol)

Back in the day, I learned to always divide my tip amount by two because:

1)99.9% of the time, it's a tip pool (shared tips)
2)I didn't want one attendant to feel "left out".

Anything over $10,000, I believe that a supervisor accompanies the attendants.

Before TITO in the 90’s in an Indian casino it was typically floor checker (slot attendant), then floor supervisor. I don’t believe it’s changed much since then.

    They did not pool tips.

If the win was big enough you would get an Auditor or sometimes two to come down for Hand pays.

If the win was large security might come over to offer you an escort to your vehicle when you are ready to leave.

The additional people sign/initial their names on internal paperwork to confirm the transfer of money but serve no function other than to witness.

On my recent trip to HoChunk I only saw a slot attendant. No hand pays to find out more

Pretty sure it is witness type duties in most cases.

When I do tip, it is the the person that hands me the money - they can figure it out from there.

Yes, there are times when I do not tip. Some reasons:
    * they took so long to do it, I put half the winnings back into another machine while waiting
    * having a real bad day and the win was far from a real win
    * win is exactly $1200 when I would have been very happy at $1100.
    * Usually the first one.

Only had 2 hand pays and didn't tip on either one.
Until I hit a $10K or more hand pay, don't expect any tips. ;)

I’m so excited I tip everyone. I don’t feel obligated, it’s just the way I am. Sometimes the suits refuse sometimes they don’t. Last one I hit was 2019. It was fairly early in the am, 7:30 or so. A suit was the first to come to me since they had so few slot attendants at the time. He left and came back with one so she could reset the machine. I tipped them both. It was the 2nd machine I played on my first full day and I was in shock and it put me way ahead. Had it been at the end of my trip and I was down a ton, I’d probably still tip both, but less.

99% of the time, the second person is "the "witness". If it's a large (and I'm guessing at this <$5,000), it's probably a supervisor.
