Oh, my. Do you mean "hanging out" in a figurative way? Or is there yet another delightful time I can't remember.

    HI,

First off, I think it’s fantastic that you don’t let your health issues stop you doing what you clearly love.

I’ve only started reading your report, but I had to come back and post before continuing. Your writing style is great, but I need to know what a Teflon scratcher is ?

Your anecdote about the forced intimacy cracked me up, however not as much as these 2…

I’m from the UK and have never heard of Crazy Richard’s. My dad’s name was Richard and he detested anything with peanuts in. In-fact he had a weird sort of phobia of them which as a kid I teased him about :D

If that was 2018, video poker / not live and The Plaza, not GN it would have been me :D.

    Going to read more.

I went to Spain from 1969 until 1971. My first born son who turns 50 this year was born there. We lived in Alcala de Henares, the birthplace of Cervantes. After a while we bought Volkswagon bug on the French border, $1558 it cost. Then we were able to see quite a bit of Spain, France, and Germany where we had friends stationed.
My second wife and I honeymooned in Spain for three weeks, mostly using an apartment from the Madrid native who worked under me, keeping flight records for the Pilots at Torrejon. He married an English girl and lives outside of London. The apartment was on the Northern Coast, near water. They came and stayed a week with us and showed us around.
A couple years ago I met Frank in Madrid, and the two of us did a week together. I did 11 days, staying in Madrid, He took me to the little village where his mother had lived and we sat around with his cousins and had a grand visit which was limited as my Spanish is limited. We also revisited Segovia and we walked the stone wall around Avila. It was quite a trip because he had just published a book of his mother's life, called, "Living in Spain's Turbulent Years," and he signed a dozen copies which I gave as gifts here in the USA. She had lived to be over 100 and the book follows her life as a way of presenting Spanish history from the view of the people.
Goya is still my favorite painter, and on that trip I spent 5 hours with him in the Prado.

There were three of us at the meet up. Nice to know again that one was you. Do you remember the other?

Great trip report. You hit some things that resonated with me. One, I love that the Longhorn Chuckwagon has an $8.99 porterhouse special. How did LVA miss that? Something I definitely have to try next trip. And, two, rooms at the Longhorn are clean and cheap. Perfect. I was stuck on my trip plans over July 4th weekend of where to find a reasonable rate for a room (Harrah's, where I usually am comped, wanted $180/night) and after not being able to find one anywhere I was looking decided to try an excursion to Laughlin where Harrah's is willing to put me up for free. I'm willing to do this because I haven't been to Laughlin in years and kinda want to see the city again. But, it won't be for another 5, or so, years that I'll want to go there again and if I get stuck for a room, the Longhorn is showing rooms for my two July 4th nights at $106 total for the two nights. Sweet, and something I'll definitely use as my 'go to' if I get stuck in the future. Mmm, porterhouse.

Glad I offered something of value. If internet is important. say something to the desk clerk before you arrive. It worked to get me very good internet. I don't have a phone hot spot in my phone plan. I won't book my next tip in a single 13 day stretch. I'll book half of that and see if I get good internet. If not, I'll head downtown to the Four Queens.
One other note is that the pool is open, but the hot tub was closed all the while I was there.
I have always loved Laughlin and my 2019 trip was primarily there, but there have been so many changes that it is sad now. The Belle is closed perhaps to be torn down, perhaps to be sold for rooms. Good live poker is hard to find. Good VP is at the Aquarius, but few other places.
I can't hike the Grapevine Canyon anymore, so I dropped it this year from consideration.
I loved Harrah's when I stayed there because I like a pool, and most of the time, their pool was heated. I suppose in July it will not matter.
    Good luck

Just finished your blog - enjoyed all of it. I have followed you for years as you do Vegas much in the same manner that we do. We're in our late 70's and our Vegas trips have drastically changed over the years and can relate to your limitations, especially the expanding distances between casinos. How do they keep moving those big buildings further apart? We were in Vegas in Feb '20 and are looking forward to returning in Oct.

Well, nice to hear from you. I'm happy some of what I write helps others. Of course, I don't expect too many people are going to the Longhorn. Hope you can make a trip soon.

Great. I'll look for it. I found that stretching out the time in Vegas got the best value out of the airfare. I used to aim for twenty one days. It also made made the pace easier as I aged. Of course, working people can't do that. Also, room comps don't cover a stretch like that. I used to patch offers together and hop from place to place, never staying in one spot for very long. But in those days B Connected gave a couple free nights and MyVegas came along with really grand deals. Also, I just physically could not do the lugging of luggage on buses every few days.
Longhorn allows only 14 days in one stretch. So I'm thinking how to extend to another casino for an extra week. Or it might be that I can just roll down to Sam's Town or bus it to Arizona Charlie's for a few days and then book the Longhorn again. Well, it will be a while before I go again.

What I'm calling a Teflon scratcher is just those common kitchen scrubbers that don't scratch. Back in the day when Teflon was a popular frying pan coating, we needed them in place of the old wire scratchers and just called them that. Dates me.
What drove me crazy on this trip was the copper scratcher I brought. I could not find a place to leave it where it did not leave an ugly stain. Next time I'll go with something else. I'm shopping.

Let me join those enjoying your report(s) and blog. I don't remember when, probably well over 10 years ago, but my girlfriend and I met you outside the Golden Nugget waiting for the day trip bus to Laughlin to arrive. I think it was in August – probably not the best time to visit Laughlin - and you sat directly behind us on the way back. Remember?
