13 days at the Longhorn casino and hotel

    My Trip Report

Because I write long and detailed trip reports, and post them on my blog in trip report snippets, so readers can skim and read separately what they are interested in reading, I find it hard to cut and paste the entire discussion here.

The board prefers that if I refer to a blog, I include here a detailed description of the trip.

    So, here goes.

I spent 13 days at the Longhorn Casino and Hotel after not being in Vegas for a couple years due to health issues.

I played video poker at the Longhorn, but it was low pay. However, I sought out machines with progressives to up the EV.

I ate often in Longhorn's Chuckwagon restaurant. The prices were amazing.

I also ate in my room to try to keep somewhat on a very restrictive diet for most of the day.

I played live poker downtown at the Golden Nugget and loved it. I played jsut one night at Boulder Station and hated it.

I played video poker at the Longhorn, down the street at Sam's Town, and at the Vue bar downtown.

No wins. It was a losing trip.

I took buses downtown, and once I went to the strip to do a coupon run at Ellis Island and to see Bellagio. There are few photos in my report, but I do have some from Bellagio.

My pace had to be slow because of my health, but I managed very well, surprised myself really.

One fine thing about this location is it is near 8 of my relatives in three house holds, so they helped me, and were there in case of emergency.

I flew in from Denver and then back to Tampa. All nonstop flights and all on Southwest points that have built up during Covid lockdown.

I used my live poker comps to eat in the Grill, and to eat at Claimjumpers in the Goldern Nugget.

For many readers this should be enough, but for those of you who like to read every detail, go to

    Vegas Adventures (vegasbirthdaybash.blogspot.com)

Important: If you do want to read the blog and the rest of the details of this trip, be certain to hit "Older Posts" in the bottom right hand corner as not all the Snippets will load on the first page. Sorry, I forgot about this. It has been a long while since I did a trip report.

Note this is just a personal blog. There is no advertisement there by me or by anyone else. Comments have been not working on that blog, so please make any comments, or ask any questions here on this VMB thread which is what you should do anyway.
And thanks very much to so many of you who gave me advice and helped me work through what was very difficult planning for me. Thanks especially for help on video poker Deuces Wild, a new game for me. Thanks too for the suggestions on buses. And thanks for all the kind words from many of my old friends here who like having me back and posting again.
My intention is to go back. I hope I can.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading every bit of your report on the blog. I absolutely am crushed that Longhorn has taken their table games out, and Eastside Cannery isn’t open. I have considered taking the 202 that way in June coming up. Maybe I’ll make a day-trip after all.

Man, oh man. Our take on many things are incredibly similar. Poker, socializing while playing, and … dare I say, haiku, but haiku to a lesser extent than you. After my return home, I broke my humerus and tore my calf muscle. I'm typing this with one finger, so I'll hold my trip report in abeyance. Please shoot me a PM if and when you visit again and I'll try to meet up. Dinner on me. Wait! I forgot that we're now Facebook friends. (I seem to forget a lot of things nowadays.) That's a good place to connect.

    Be well.

I've been thinking of you, Booker, and your recent injuries and wishing you well. I thought we have always had a similar perspective on Vegas. I'd love a meetup. Didn't we once do that at the El Cortez? Or am I misremembering.
The confusion of aging is very frustrating. I'm driving my wife crazy asking her the same questions and then forgetting the answers.
I was on a mission to finish this report because if too much time passes, I won't remember the details. I love having the blogs. I have them for all my travel, by area, and they are great resources.
This morning I'm going to give my neighbor here in Florida a chance to try a recumbent bike. He is very anxious, but he sees me out for short rides. I can not longer safely ride a normal bike. I miss that. On the lake up North I spent one summer only getting on the water twice because I could not get out of the old rowboat. Then last year we bought a small, electric pontoon. Step on, step off. Very comfortable to this old body.
That doesn't mean I don't miss being a spry fellow able to do almost anything, or that all the anxiety of aging doesn't just drive me nuts, but I have found creative solutions and being happy with small victories is better than worrying. Worry is just wasted imagination. Get well soon.

No. We didn't meet at the El Cortez. Now, if I am not misremembering, we once had tentative plans for a brew, but for some reason I had to postpone my trip.

Terrific detail, @Dewey089. Enjoyed the read thoroughly.

I have been toying with the idea of staying at the Longhorn for a night or two this Summer as a change of pace from downtown & the Strip and your write up certainly helps. Thank you for that.

The fact the Eastside Canary is no more is a huge negative for me, however. It's very depressing.

Hope you enjoyed your time in Colorado as well.

Nice read and sounds like a great trip. Just FYI, your AU$ and US$ conversions are reversed. One US$ is about $1.30 Australian.

I really enjoyed your report. Proves Vegas is still for everyone and you can find fun no matter where you are or what you do.
