I drove past a billboard yesterday for the Hard Rock Tampa on I-4 East a couple miles West of the casino...

It said that in January-February 2021 they had given away $240,000,000 in jackpots!

Somebody put 3 too many zeros in that? Or did they have a $240,000,000 Pai Gow Jackpot that they gave away?

I found the billboard hilarious anyway. I think that if you added up all the jackpots given away by all Las Vegas casinos in all of 2020 it would come nowhere close to $240 million!!

That number doesnt sound off honestly. Tampa Hard Rock is larger than any casino in Vegas and posts revenue about $1B per year, and considering the holds are only a small percentage of the action, the total payouts would need to be in the multiple billions per year, so the math works out on that number being perfectly reasonable and expected. A quick look at Nevada gaming control board repprts reveals win payouts of a little under $700,000,000 in January 2021 alone, just in Clark County. There is wiggle room probably in the definition of "jackpots" with a relatively unregulated Tampa casino, but no, they didnt add three zeroes to the real number.

$240,000,000 divided by $1200 handpays divided by 4500 slot machines divided by 59 days in January and February equals 0.75 hand pays per day per machine.

Seems about right to be honest.

That doesn't figure in any table jackpots either.

Never defined what a 'jackpot' is. It doesn't mean it has to be a hand pay. It could be anything.

I know but I was just trying to figure out an easy thing the casino could track in terms of “jackpots” and see if the number made sense. Lots of people on here consider a handpay a jackpot even if it’s not a labeled jackpot in the game itself.

Yes, but for advertising purposes, they can mean anything by ‘jackpot’. It could be every payout they make.

As far as I can recall, I've only seen one handpay in my life (and it wasn't me). 0.75 hand pays per machine seems really high to me. I expect that you'd be lucky to see one handpay per week on a machine..

If Hard Rock Tampa takes in 1B per year and they give out $120Million per month in jackpots alone, then they are losing their ass as they would be handing out $1 Billion 440 Million per year...and that's just on jackpots..add in the smaller wins going on all day and $2 Billion might easily be going out in a year...
The $240,000,000 in two months still sounds ridiculously high to me. Maybe in a year, but not two months...

All depends what machine you play. I have gotten 3 handpays on a single machine in a matter of an hour or two. Certainly a machine with someone playing 60 cents a spin all day will likely never get a handpay, yet the person who randomly throws a Benjamin in a high limit slot sees them more frequently. On a Saturday night in the high limit room in Cherokee NC there are at least 10 slot attendants and for a few hours they dont stop running back and forth to the cage for bundles of cash.

Revenue is not their total action. With casinos, revenue has a bit different definition than with retail. Casino rvenue is generally defined as the difference between money bet and money paid out. But the 1B also includes hotel and entertainment revenue and I cant find the breakdown. But to reach even half a billion in casino revenue, it could be expected they would pay out 3 to 5 billion total per year. 240M in 2 months puts them on pace for only about 1.5B in payouts, but they're still dealing with occupancy and travel restrictions so again, it sounds perfectly legit.

I think it’s right. I have had three hand pays there in two weeks, so they do pay. There is also a drawing tonight for anyone that had one or more hand pay in March- there’s over 5,000 entries.
    It’s a HUGE place.
