The Plaza - surprisingly shabby but the room came with maxi pads!

I’m surprised the room didn’t come with another type of pad. Depends or Poise comes to mind!

I was hoping for the newer rooms that come with an iPad, or at least a mini.

Wow, this was disappointing to read... and especially surprising as I’ve stayed at the Plaza more than any other hotel in Vegas and have only ever had moderate room problems at most.

It’s evident that many hotels have let some things slip since reopening under COVID circumstances... and I feel like that can be attributed to a number of things such as shorthanded housekeeping. I saw a thread earlier about a similarly disappointing experience at Cosmo, so it seems this can happen even in luxury hotels. Doesn’t excuse it, but it suggests this is not an isolated thing.

I still love the Plaza, between the Luxe rooms, the pool, the casino, and the location. So I will definitely stay there again one day because my good experiences there have far outweighed the less favourable experiences had by myself or others. But I don’t blame you for feeling this way after your stay.

OK is a fair assessment in my experience. Not great, not bad, just OK.

The only thing I can say is that their pool area is great by downtown standards. Really enjoyed that part of our stay. If it wasn't for Circa opening up, Plaza would still be in consideration as pool time is important for us.

NFC! Glad to see you're still on the forum!

In all honesty, I stay in all sorts of hotels - from holy-shit-this-is-a-dump to oh-my-god-I-never-want-leave-this-amazing-place and everything in between - I even have a "permanent" hotel room in Tijuana where there is no AC or heat that I rent by the month. (My dear husband is a saint for allowing me to do my "urban" explorations in some of these more "colorful" places.) I temper my expectations based on price and location.

I will agree that they have a great pool are though I didn't indulge this time, I've been to it with friends on previous trips.

I think what really killed me about the experience were the final moments at the casino host's office. When it happened, I realized that the Plaza didn't want to cultivate loyal gamblers at their property. I mean, the office door was open, the lights were on, hosts were in the office, but they weren't "open."

As an example of a different host experience, we were in Reno at Silver Legacy gambling on Christmas Eve (yes, we spend the holidays at casinos) and The Dog hit a RF playing pai gow. It was a big win. We were planning on heading back home that day (we'd driven there) but it was getting late. We were bottom-tier club members (and I'm not even sure we even got offers from SL at that point) but we'd played a ton that day and then scored a good win. Regardless, we went to the host's office at 10pm on CHRISTMAS EVE. A host was on duty. We asked if he could comp us a room for the night and within a few clicks, he did. Needless to say, we began regularly playing at SL in the coming years. Never made it past the second tier but we do know they appreciate their gamblers as they always have a host available and if one isn't, a pit boss will fix you up for immediate needs.

This is great insight Lily, thank you for sharing!

There seems to be a consistency of “less touristy” markets such as Reno taking care of players, even at the low-roller level. I think part of the reasoning could be to do with the fact that there are more than enough cash-paying guests in Vegas to sustain patronage without being especially generous with comps and such. Many of us (myself included) don’t need any real motivation to go to Vegas and gamble... whereas greater motivation would be needed to get someone to go to Reno. So that doesn’t really surprise me. I’ve gotten more into video poker lately, which has had me paying attention to how far my play would get me in a given market... and I get the idea that destinations such as Reno, Wendover, and some of the resort towns in Louisiana and Mississippi might be good places to seed some action.

@notfromconcentrate - I notice you're in the Caesar's ecosystem.... strangely enough, that whole enchilada is now owned by ElDorado/SL in Reno! I was stunned, to say the least, when we went to make reservations at the ElDo in Reno and they asked if we were Total Rewards members and then merged the accounts last summer. Reno is a lot of fun (and a quick drive for us now that we're back in NorCal). If you get a wild hair, consider coming up to Reno/Lake Tahoe and staying at one of the Total Rewards properties here. Harveys and Harrah's are both in Lake Tahoe and then Silver Legacy, El Dorado, and Circus Circus in Reno.

Sadly, they closed the original Harrah's in Reno when they bought Caesar's because they would have had too many casinos in one area or some such nonsense. Out of the 3 Reno properties, I think SL is the nicest but I enjoy El Dorado, too, as I like the vibe in there.

    @LilyJDragonfly

Thank you for your post regarding the Plaza. My name is Gary Vickery, Director of Hotel Operations at the Plaza (as well as VMB's Casino Host on occasion.)
I reached out to you via DM to formally discuss this weekends room and reservation but wanted to take the opportunity to address the situation to the group.

Based on your feedback, I met with our Housekeeping and Casino Marketing teams to discuss your experience with our room product and service standards. I can assure you that these types of things will be taken care of accordingly.

We have started the process of adding refrigerators to all of our guestrooms. This is something important to me and have been working on for some time. COVID delayed the process, but will be complete within the next few months. In addition, a separate conversation has also opened up regarding the amenities in our rooms including Kleenex and our bath amenities.

Please check your DM for my message as I would like to do what I can to make things right by you.

    Kind Regards,

    Gary Vickery

The Plaza has been "shabby" for 30 years.

We were there right after it was remodeled maybe 2000 or so. It was one of those America West Vacations where the flight and hotel were cheaper than the flight if booked separately. I was pleasantly surprised at the room. My only gripe was a filthy window. The bathroom is oddly-shaped.

What I REALLY appreciated was that the flight was early in the morning and I was dead tired. I remember approaching the desk (8:00am-ish, IIRC) asking if there was ANY way we could please check in so I could take a nap. She didn't even blink, started typing and "I'm sure we can find something for you ..."

LOL, I don't remember if they still had the "No Dancing" sign in the Omaha Lounge.
