Wouldn't even think about it, but I'm very w/e about most things in Vegas.

I am one of the heathens that likes playing devil's advocate in the FB Vegas RF wars :p

You wouldn't want the upcharge for Tomatoes with breakfast at the Wynn...

I believe it was $13, and my friend brings it up everytime Vegas comes up in conversation. It is made all the more amusing, by the fact this happened in 2010 :haha:

Think it was room service, so I'd guess it might well be if you wanted more than one pot :D

Consider the $0.99 the resort fee for breakfast. Not that much added value for an increased price.

One of my peeves is when someone bitches and moans about a nominal up charge at a business establishment but doesn’t call them out. At least give me some hints as to who is the offender, why keep it to yourself?

At any rate, check out Cowboy Kent Rollins, this one has over 3MM views. Maybe this unnamed, expensive establishment makes hash browns this way.

I didn’t call them out because it’s not really Vegas specific although they are a national company. The Original Pancake House. I’m not sure if the charges are limited to just the location I visit in FL or all of them.

What they oughta do is use something like those Sysco hash brown wedges (AKA Arby's Potato Cakes) like some of the Boyd buffets do. They're yummy and you just throw them in the deep fryer, impossible to {f-bomb} up and cheap in quantity, I'm sure.

I mean Waffle House has figured out how to serve hash browns in bulk and for less than 3 bucks. You would think an establishment that's probably charging triple could figure out how to be efficient about it.

Restaurants generally buy 20# bags of cooked pre-shredded potatoes for their hash browns while they buy unprocessed potatoes which they prepare on-site to make their home fries. It makes for different price points for the restaurant.

Yes, that's my point. Bulk makes things cheaper and more efficient. It's the special order that's adding effort and therefore expense.

The restaurant where my husband and I go occasionally for breakfast is the opposite, home fries are an up charge of 79 cents over hash browns. We always get the home fries.....I have honestly never given it a second thought.

here is the flip side to that ... if i leave off the lettuce and tomato that comes with most burgers , and i do , do i get a down charge on the price of the burger ?NO ... so i agree an upcharge is bullshit

I'll say this... most places don't give a eff

if they lose a customer over 99 cents.

    The attitude of indifference.

This isn’t quite the same thing, IMO... because if “downcharging” were to be a thing, it would be a slippery slope in which one could theoretically strip a burger right down to the patty for a much lower cost. Indeed that might make sense for some customers, but changes of any kind to menu items are generally discouraged to simplify kitchen workflows... and if any changes are to be made, it makes sense for there to be a deterrent to do so through an upcharge as opposed to an incentive to do so through a downcharge.

I do agree with what you’re saying as a matter of fairness, as I wondered about the same thing before working in restaurants. Especially as I am also a “no lettuce and tomato on a burger” guy myself :)

I would be irritated about it as well. I'd rather they just upped the price of the food.

I have a local pizza joint in my town that we went to, ordered one of their pizzas that had mushrooms, sausage, pepperoni, onions and green peppers. I dont like mushrooms but my dining partner does so we asked for half with no mushrooms. Nothing was mentioned by the server but when we got the bill we were charged $1 for half the mushrooms. What??

I was just thinking...we went out for dinner last night and on the sandwich menu it said "sandwiches served with chips, add $1.50 for fries, $2.50 for sweet potato fires and also additional for fruit" If I wanted to upgrade to fries it cost an additional $1.50, What's the difference if you want to upgrade from home fries to hash browns you pay the $0.99, personally home fries to me is the upgrade.

$2.50??? Based on this thread, it sounds like you should throw your plate on the floor, punch the waitress in the face, drop kick the manager, then burn the place to the ground

    :)
