Jeep is coming out with a new Wagoneer and Grand Wag this summer, I think it tops out at $82,000. As for updates, Grand Cherokee is getting long in the tooth, but they sold 242k in 2019, about 202k last year. That's not shabby. Agreed, some of those sales are coming at high cost with incentives and financing specials. Jeep Cherokee (the modified Dodge Dart and Fiat something or other) has a $5k rebate. That's for a car that starts out at about $27k.

Lipstick or not, that's an impressive feat to quadruple worldwide sales in 12 years.

FCA does/did two things amazingly well: Selling gobs of one of the most unreliable lines of vehicles in existence and making Ram the pack leader in the pickup world.

Yeah they did really well with RAM. And, the Wrangler is to the SUV world as the 911 is to the sports car world. Minor incremental changes over the years that make great, even greater

There is an independent Saab guy in the outskirts of Philly who draws customers from a big radius. Back in the mid 70's, there was a Peugeot dealer in the part of Philly where women didn't shave their armpits and men wore earth shoes, the guy sold a ton of them. One of my buddies drove a 1974 504 with a stick and a hand crank sunroof, perfect for the big potholes of the city. Between him and his brothers and sisters, they probably had 8-10 Peugeots.

I am completely baffled at how the Wrangler and its offshoots command such high values, I've seen 4 year old top end Wranglers listed for over $40k. There's a 2018 Wrangler Unlimited with 28k miles listed for $42,000.

The problem with eliminating Pontiac and Olds is that now GM doesn't have a division to duplicate Chevy models!

The Cadillac XTS built up until 2019 was a rebadged Impala. I guess Caddy ran out of old guys willing to pay up to $72,000 for a $35,000 Chevy with a couple more bells and whistles.

GM also made shared the Impala platform with the Buick Lacrosse.

I read somewhere that more Buicks are sold in China than in the USA.

Remember the "Cadillac" built on a Chevy Cavalier?!?

And weren't the later Impalas Holdens?

This is true- Buick is considered a premium import brand in that country

Design gets customers through the door. Quality gets them to return at a later date.

I think FCA did a decent job bringing customers through the doors...

At least one Buick is built in China (as are models from many marques). And for all the flag-waving Jeep ads, the Renegade is considered one of the least-American "American" vehicles out there, content and assembly. Not sure if all of ours come out of China or we get those built in Brazil and Italy, too.

And marketing. Lots of heart-and-gut strings are yanked when someone ties a Renegade to a Willys.

The Holden that was imported from Australia was badged as a Chevrolet Caprice and for awhile, the Pontiac G8. They were offered as police cars, Caprice PPV. These had monster V-8's and were fast as hell. Police departments are selling these off, they are the ultimate sleeper, a wolf in sheep's clothing.

    Behold the Cadillac Cimmeron

It's amazing what they got away with for years. Growing up during the Chev-Olds-Pontiac boom years, I was always amazed how much they were rewarded for so little creativity. It seemed like they could duplicate a body, put popcicle sticks, rubber bands and chewing gum under the hood to sell a 100K units!

That's true. For years Dodge and Plymouth models were pretty much mirror image too.

BTW, if China looks at Buick as a premium product, we should see if there's any interest in that ocean front property in eastern Oklahoma.

I think it's probably because the transliteration of the word Buick in Chinese means precious horse

The Buick Envision SUV is imported from China to the USA. I believe it was the first mass produced vehicles made in China and sold in the USA.

GM has several plants there and in 2019 they sold 3 million vehicles in China and 3.3 Million in North America of which 2.5 million in the USA.

The ultimate "rebadging" of vehicles was GM back in the mid 2000's for a midsize SUV. Chevy Trailblazer, Olds Bravada, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, Saab 9-7x. Chevy even made the SSR off of that platform.
