    It's very miminal.

The biggest change i can think of applies to 6/5 Bonus only (not 7/5 or 8/5). In 6/5 Bonus, you're supposed to break Aces full. That hasn't worked out for me yet though. Lol

Yeah....but if you get a full house followed by 4oak, you are a VP God.

I appreciate the replies. My post was in no may intended to insult other games or anything like that. I now see why JoB or BP are chosen. I was just curious as an outsider looking at pay tables. But I understand now, so thanks all

No other games were insulted, harmed, or subjected to laboratory testing throughout the course of this thread.

I hear you, I play the nickle or dime version, it's definitely the crack cocaine of VP, I've had the good fortune of flopping 4 A's 3 times in the last few months(scattered multipliers), now that is exciting. You just cant play single line(regular VP) for long sessions after that.

I prefer the lower variance with JoB and the proper play is more intuitive.
Each of those other games require their own rules for optimum play.

Straight flush would also be a hand pay.

Another thing to consider: I find the proper strategy for JoB and BP to be easier to remember than DDB. BP is my game, a bit more variance with some more premium quads, but not as crazy as DDB and usually easy to find a decent BP paytable.

The low variance is why I stick to it, along with the fact that I've been playing it long enough that I can go on autopilot. Same with blackjack. And I don't really like learning new things in the casino; my friend was teaching me Free Bet Blackjack the other week, and while I get that it's not that complicated, I was nonetheless baffled.

    just know this
if you start w. all DDB, it's hard to go to JOB
according to two "friends" of ours..
also it may be the gateway drug to the super crack variations..

I prefer 10/7 DB, but the strategy is counter intuitive and that pay table is difficult to find. Whatever you choose, practice strategy on something like WinPoker so the math is with your choices.

    These are both excellent points.

OP should definitely consider game availability as well. I’ve definitely had fun learning some unique paytables, but considering they often have hard strategies to remember and are even harder to find, it helps to be realistic in terms of knowing which games are somewhat easy to find wherever one typically does their gaming.

As for WinPoker... absolutely 100%. I think I paid $13 or so for the download and it’s a no-brainer purchase IMO.

I might add that I use Tomski's Strategy maker to make strategy sheets. This is especially useful if you are playing a local game with an odd pay table. You put in the numbers and it figures the best plays.
I think both are still available from Zamzow who actually wrote the WinPoker (not Dancer) and who will give good customer service over the years.

Yes, once you're paid 2000 for Aces with a kicker, getting paid 125 (or even 400 in Bonus) for the same hand is a big letdown. The excitement level for getting paid 10 on two pair is not nearly as high.

    Great point!
My wife and I started out playing Jacks or Better and then one trip I discovered DDB. She stuck with Jacks of Better for a few more trips until one day she found a machine withTriple Double Bonus. While playing quarters she hit aces with a kicker for $1,000 and now she won't play anything else! She completely level jumped right over DDB!

My game of choice is Bonus poker, but some places call it BP, but it isn't, so i will play DDB. I've never had a 4OAKw/K, so not my favorite. My favorite lately has been triple play BP where I've had mostly positive sessions. I did try some different games I found an an All-Stars poker machine where to pay for the specials, instead of charging an extra credit like wheel poker, STP or Quick Quads, they shorted the full house or 3 OAK. Of course, no matter how infrequent I have been getting the hands that are shorted, as soon as I play those games, I get lots of FH and 3OAKs.

It's more fun to win. It's more fun to play longer with X dollars. Learn and practice correct strategy and find machines with full pay tables, and you will probably enjoy video poker.

Which game you select depends on things like risk tolerance, but until you can play the original JOB (or the very similar BP) error free, or very close to it, you are not ready to decide that.

One thing I've been annoyed with lately is that at Caesars it looks like they made the Bonus Poker pay tables the same as JoB if playing $0.25. I was at the rear Cromwell bar last month and decided to pay $1 and realized the BP table was back to normal there. Almost immediately hit a 4OAK and bailed. Note: I've been to Tunica, Cherokee, and a few Vegas props over the last few months and have seen this in all of them.

I did not experience this problem at Cosmo.
