I'm getting closer to "buying my way" into Gold. I'll know for sure after the Wynn trip in March and another chat with Identity (Cosmopolitan)

There are several things that factor into the decision to "buy my way to Gold".

1)Cosmopolitan doesn't discriminate between spend and gambling points, in fact, you might say they encourage spend by not providing any accelerators or bonuses for elevated levels

2)How often I go to Las Vegas every year. I go between 8-12 times a year, and can really take advantage of 2-4-1 Wicked Spoon EVERY DAY! (NOTE: On January 11, 2021, Wicked Spoon Buffet will temporarily close. During this temporary closure, a dining credit will be offered in lieu of any current Wicked Spoon Tier Benefits and Offers.)

3)$2600 (what I have left to spend for Gold level), is a small part of my entertainment budget for the year. I can "spend" $2600 in a casino in one, maybe two days.

4)Among the benefits are 2 comp nights and two comp companion nights a year. I'm guessing that the two comp night are NGO (No Gambling Obligation) Saves me from having to double book, or I can use one of those comps for a "non-gambling" guest.

5)Save me from having to spend HOURS to earn points to make a level (yeah, I know, chasing comps, but take a look at the pictures of the room, which I found out is called a Terrace Studio)

    https://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/resort/rooms-suites/terrace-studio

6)Gold Level is waived resort fees

In summary, and IMHO, for the once or twice a year player, or the big time gambler who has a decent amount of luck at slots, the $4000 spend probably doesn't make much sense.

Also, $4000 has to be in your entertainment budget. I mean, it's less than a cruise.

I agree with your assessment of the three properties. I'm not older, so it's not as relevant to me but Cosmo is much more compact than Wynn and V/P especially. I can imagine V/P being super hard to get around if you have physical difficulties. As a slot player myself as well, Cosmo is the only main strip property that has a nice slot selection any more. My last trip I just about bought my way to sterling and they sent me a three night comp offer, which I'll use next month while I start buying my way to gold as well lol.

I'll be there at Cosmo next week. My values and situation are a bit different, but many similarities. I'm 62 (very soon)

Cosmo is a favorite because of room design and location on Strip. Candidly, I feel a bit old when in the casino at Cosmopolitan. But those terraces... they move Cosmo to the top of my "what influences where I stay" list. I'm unlikely to ever merit one of the few Balcony room at Bellagio.

I made Gold in November. According to reservationist... Gold members should expect an email offer approx every 6 weeks. That hasn't been my experience, but frequency has increased. And calendar shows much greater availability compared to when Velvet and Sterling.

My MGM offers include some freeplay and f&b.... I get no freeplay or f&b at Cosmo. Maybe freeplay and f&b kick in more based on play, and I don't play enough - seems contradictory having made Gold, to not receive even $50 dining credit along with three free nights in a terrace suite. I guess that's my way of noting I'll be watching @DaiLun trip reports to see if/when you make Identity Gold, offers include freeplay and f&b.

OK, interesting to note. I put in about 5900 TP 1x Tier credits, which roughly equated to 14,500 coin in. Let see if my offer's go up.

BTW, let me know what the dining credit will be offered in lieu of any current Wicked Spoon Tier Benefits and Offers.

It's interesting what they say about (my words "not discriminating against gambling vs. spend)

It may be a true case of "level gets you access and play gets you offers/comps"

FYI I was at Cosmo last week I'm Gold and got $15 food credit to use and you had to tell the person at the identity desk where you wanted to use it and it was good for 24 hrs and you only received one credit per week in lew of Wicked Spoon.

^ Yeah, just goes to show what a buffet price should actually be. $15 is one cocktail, if you are lucky, at the Cosmo.

I think your last statement is the case. My last trip I was just shy of sterling (about 500 points, so one nice meal), but even not hitting sterling I was offered three nights comp in a terrace studio king, no resort fee and the majority of my points came from gambling slots.

$15 will buy me a Yogurt Berry Parfait at The Henry for breakfast.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was last visit... like starting the day with ice cream

    EPILOGUE:

My flight had problems. Not only are returning to the "glory"(?) days of SWA passengers being just a half step up from Greyhound bus, the aircraft had problems. The wing flaps would go down for takeoff, but wouldn't go up for flight. Neither the captain nor the co-captain could "see", they were just going by a light on the instrument panel. So, a return to Las Vegas was necessary.

Since we had just taken off, and the plane was nearly full, we were above the maximum safe landing weight, and because there was no ocean to "dump" the fuel (do they still do that?), we had to fly around for about 30 minutes to burn off excess fule and and then land back at McCarran.

Now, as the Captain was announcing this, I was watching S01E07 of Snowpiercer, so I didn't hear it "first hand", I actually heard it when we had already landed back at McCarran.

The plane landed at Gate C3 and a replacement plane was waiting at C1 (the only good thing about COVID-19 is there were planes just "sitting around", because the next non-stop flight back to San Jose was at 4:50PM.

There was one young man whose speech pattern was an F-bomb every other work, and luckily he rebooked another flight. Then there were the flight "rookies", who were all worried about when the new plane was going to take off and why didn't they have a schedule, and how will I make my connecting flight, and blah-blah-blah-blah-blah.

HEY PEOPLE!!! "Fecal matter HAPPENS". It's not the first time that a flight has been delayed and SWA has a process to handle it. JUST BE THANKFUL THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES!!

Anyway, I got home and found out that my son had to go to the emergency room for a finger that he cut on a (cooking) mandolin. The way my ex-wife tells it, he was going too fast and not paying attention and sliced a part of his finger off. He couldn't stop the bleeding so they opted to go to the emergency room. No stiches, and I haven't seen the damage yet. It was his decision to go to the Emergency Room and he paid the $150 fee, his insurance took care of the rest.

SO that was the drama and excitement. I think that I have figured out the Cosmopolitan Identity T&C, and it's a matter of executing it before they change the policy (close the loophole) on gift cards. I don't see them doing that, they just have a defined/distinct way of doing it. It's just a matter of what credit card I will use to pay the $2500, so I will be "double dipping of sorts.

Oh, and some things that I left out.

1)The room at Cosmopolitan that I stayed in (and will stay in again) was a Terrace Studio

2)There is a refrigerator in the Terrace Studio
    fridge_terrace_studio.jpg

3)Budget made me fill out an incident report for the flat tire, which took longer than it did for me to change the tire.

4)The compost cookie was just "OK". I prefer shortbread, but I hope that my son and ex-wife will enjoy them.

Well, so much for asking for compensation for the delay. San Jose was my final destination. I did get an apology note:

    Dear Xxxxxxxx,

I’m very sorry for the unexpected mechanical issue that necessitated the return of Flight #4955 to Las Vegas yesterday. Although the Pilots took this measure out of an abundance of caution, I know the subsequent delay disrupted your travel plans. We appreciate your patience and cooperation with our Employees as they worked to get you on your way, and I hope you will accept our sincere apologies for the overall inconvenience.

We are a Company built on serving others through the delivery of safe and reliable air transportation. Your continued patronage is important to us, and we hope you will continue giving us the privilege of welcoming you onboard.

Not an ideal way of ending the trip but glad you got back home safely. Enjoyed your TR.

To answer your question about airlines "dumping" fuel, they still do that. Pilots will always try to go to a certain altitude to dump the fuel or go to less populated areas/ocean unless it's really an emergency like this one in LA last year

That was crazy about how your trip ended but I'm glad you made it back safely. Very sorry to hear about your son but I'm glad he is okay and good for him that he seemed to have handled everything in such an adult manner!

Kevlar gloves, $10 on Amazon. I never take out my mandoline without one on.
Seriously. Better to have to go back to Vegas than have an, uh, unscheduled landing. I used to spend a lot of time in the Caribbean growing up, and there was always some weird stuff going on with those puddlejumpers out of San Juan. Once took the pilot three tries to land -- just sort of bounced off the runway and had to go back around. The only time I get annoyed is with what I call "snooze button" delays, where it's a half-hour, then another half-hour, then another half-hour, and all of a sudden it's three days later, which is time I could have spent napping in the lounge.
