Love the Plaza. Used to be loyal to Boyd, then their comp program went to poop. Gambled at the Plaza (we’re NOT high rollers) and a host approached us. Ashley is now our host and we love her. My hubby recently passed away unexpectedly so I’m dreading my next trip (not scheduled) but I know once I arrive, they’ll all take very good care of me. I love Tina @ the sports/main bar, the pizza is yum and they used to have this club sandwich in their little breakfast/lunch place, but I believe it’s closed. Oscar’s happy hour food and drink deals (in the bar only) are great and it’s quite a pleasant place to dine. Another plus is the restroom is right outside the restaurant, unlike some of the other places where you have to go 2 miles there and back. Give it a try - not sure how it is post Covid-19 but it was awesome before and I’m certain it will be still/again!

Here's what the website says about happy hour:

    Happy Hour in the lounge
    Thursdays & Sundays 5pm-10pm

No Nose’s meatballs with house made ricotta, roasted tomato and basil pesto and Johnny Quinn’s crab cake with jumbo lump crab meat, chili aioli and stone ground mustard as well as specially priced drinks, including house wines for $7 a glass, well cocktails for $6, select domestic beers for $3, and select imported beers for $4.

Just gotta go here https://www.plazahotelcasino.com/dining/oscars-steakhouse/ and scroll toward the bottom of the page. It doesn't give prices for the food items, though.

    Thanks Tee,

I did have a look at the website the other week and hear Gary on the Plaza podcast now. It's definitely worth a listen btw if any of you haven't checked it out yet.

Anyway after your reply I went back on and grabbed Joe's email and send him a message. He got back to me within a few hours.

    Thanks again
    Billy

I haven't actually stayed at Plaza since 1991 but have played there several times. I had a positive hotel reservations customer service experience there in Nov 2018. Less than 24 hours before I was supposed to check in, I had to cancel after family members were evacuated because of the fire in Paradise, CA. When I called to cancel my reservation and explained why, the person who answered the phone, checked with a supervisor and waived the 1 night charge for late cancellations, and I didn't even ask them to waive it. I also had positive customer service from the cage. The cage employee looked through his different $1 chips and gave me a choice of clean chips to choose from for my collection.

A negative that I've run into more than once is one of the late night bar tenders at Omaha Bar, male, dark hair, small build in his 50's. He never seems to offer VP players a drink, and rarely makes eye contact with players unless you flag him down or call him over. He doesn't seem to make an good "customer service" effort to engage with customers around the bar.

Been staying at the Plaza since mid 90s used to be a Stardust guy loved it there, then started at Plaza, Plaza may not be for the younger crowd, but for us older ones it is great, good gaming nice employees
everyone is friendly drinks r good & so is service, not a lot of frill so if that's what your seeking u may be disappointed, it is kinda like the old Stardust, loved that place!

Been frequenting Plaza last couple decades and continue to enjoy. One thing that has always stood out is the effort made by mgt. to stay contemporary. Sometimes ideas and projects fail, but they keep on trying.

If you don't know any of the ear blasting artists pounding your ears in certain DT locations,
you may recognize many more of the songs they play at the plaza.
Used to not be able to stand the funky smell, which is gone, but the coverup smell is still pretty strong when you walk in.
Some nice cherry button slant top good odds VP, nicely kept up slot choices,
above average, though perhaps a bit old and tired table dealers.
probably lower end min table mins you can find on Fremont.

I like it. It's pretty chill. We don't stay but go play here and there when DT.
Might even stay again because I think Boyd don't like me and is undervaluing our action.
Oh, and not only are the craps crews quite proficient, IME, I've seen above average shooters at those emptyish tables where the game moves fast becuase people know wtf their bets are.

I stayed this past weekend at the Plaza for the first time. Was met by host when we checked in. We had a 10 am arrival and were able to check in when we arrived at the hotel. Room was large and clean. I have stayed all over downtown and this room was way better than the QQQQ normal room or the Fremont hotel. All the staff we dealt with from players club, to table dealers and pit workers were friendly and nice. I would encourage anyone looking to leave Boyd to give the Plaza a shot. We had been staying at Main St Station as our home base for the last several trips but had to find a new home with them still closed. Special thanks to Gary Vickery for his assistance in booking our stay. We think we have found our "new home".Any questions feel free to ask.

$15 black jack and craps all weekend. Thats what it was pretty much everywhere else downtown as well. DTG had a $5 craps table and the $1 black jack table going if you could get on the table.

I know the main bar next to the table games has two bartops that have 9/6 JOB VP....the rest don’t offer that.
Can anybody tell me if the other bar has any/all machines with 9/6 JOB?

Yes, the sportsbook bar also has most machines with 9/6 JoB and other good games. At least it did a couple of weeks ago. They've been there for years.

I’ve been playing there for about two years and finally got my first legitimate three night comp offer. Best bar top VP but not the best bars, the main bar has so many curves and corners I always seem to be isolated from the bartenders. They maybe have the world’s oldest Craps dealer and he makes the game really fun, and I think his father is in the same crew. I prefer the South tower to be away from Fremont noise but they charge more for the ‘Strip view’. Oskar’s is nice but I’m not the type for Hash House, wish they had a cafe instead.

Been years since I played VP at the Plaza. When the wide and I were learning VP, they had 9/6 JOB for nickels. Had a blast there for many nears. Now, we play at the ‘D’ and 4Q. They are very generous with their comps. How does Plaza match up in the comp department, and what can you expect from marketing as far as FP and Dining money?

They have HHAGG which is like Cafe + (in terms of both price and portions), and they used to have Brightside (Cafe-minus? Never went there; it seemed like the prices were good but it was more of a fast-casual setup/atmosphere)... either split the difference (bring Du-Par’s back to downtown :nworthy:) or keep HHAGG but bring in some concept that fits in between that and the food court :)

I like playing & staying at the Plaza. My only dislike is sometimes the “fresh linen” air freshener that they pump thru the HVAC can be a little too much.

I just left from there about 10 minutes ago. and almost immediately upon entering, my nose started burning and dripping from the pumped in fragrance.
    Ridiculous.
Overall ll I do like the place but they don't send me any free room offers.

I haven't stayed there so my comments are vicarious. I have a friend who really loves it there. Unless she gets a comp from somewhere else, it's her go-to hotel downtown. I see a lot of comments from people on FB and Vegas message boards who also like it a lot and recommend it.

On the other hand, I've also seen a lot of reports saying that check in was extremely slow and/or the clerk was very unhelpful. I've seen accounts in trip reports about the alarms going off in the middle of the night, sometimes more than once, resulting in disrupted sleep and possible evacuation. (Sometimes the alarms are accompanied with a message that it was a malfunction and there was no actual emergency.) I've seen many people complain about the AC being iffy or not working at all. That last one is a deal breaker for me.

One plus is that they provide a free ride to the airport for people staying there. At least they used to. I haven't looked to see if that's still ongoing.
