    My Trip Report

My wife Lacy and I took a trip to Las Vegas from 2/11/2021 until 2/15/2021. Our trip was mainly for a relaxing weekend away from the kids and to have some good meals.

    Day 1 Thursday:

We flew from Minneapolis Minnesota at 6:50AM on Sun Country and the flight wasn't full but of course we ended up with someone sitting in the same row as us making things uncomfortable but the flight was uneventful.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-17-7.png
We arrived in Las Vegas at about 8:30AM and after waiting for about 10-15 minutes we were on the shuttle to the car rental center (Due to Covid they were only allowing 10 people per shuttle). Our rental was through Budget (reserved through Costco) for $141 for a standard vehicle and by the time we arrived at the rental center an hour early we were told we had to wait until 10AM or pay $40 extra.....we waited. We were assigned a Hyundai Sonata which they considered to be an upgrade and we were happy enough with the car aside from it being kind of scratched up and having a marijuana smell to it.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-18-44.png
Our first stop after getting the car was The Peppermill since we hadn't eaten anything all day. We made all of our reservations prior to the trip so we were seated quickly and enjoyed an awesome meal consisting of country fried steak and eggs and a basic eggs, hash brown, bacon meal. The coffee was delicious and the service was very good. Meal cost with tip was about $45.

After leaving the Peppermill, we decided to make a couple stops before trying to check into the hotel. Our first stop was at The Pawn Stars shop. The place is pretty much a tourist trap but after watching the show for so long it was worth checking out and knowing that I never need to go back lol. Our next stop was at the El Cortez to take advantage of the boarding pass promotion where you show them your boarding pass within 24hrs of arriving and they give you $10 free play, $25 match play, and a free drink. I took my match play the the table and I along with the dealer were both dealt Aces and the dealer flipped a blackjack for an instant loss, -$25 in seconds which is kind of how this whole trip went. We are both low rollers and mainly play slots so we played around for a little longer and left the casino after about an hour down about $45.

After leaving the El Cortez, we drove to Ellis Island to redeem a few coupons (Las Vegas Advisor and American Casino Guide). This casino was HOT!!! temperature wise but the machines were pretty cold. Lacy hit a small bonus on Lucky Leprechaun which brought us back a little bit but we still left the casino down about $5.

After leaving Ellis Island it was finally time to head to Paris and get checked into out room. Coming into the back side of Paris and into the parking garage was VERY easy. We got parked and walked into registration where we were directed to a kiosk and halfway through the check in our kiosk froze and we had to finish our check in with guest services. We were assigned room 1124P which is an end of the hallway room on the 11th floor with a partial view of the Bellagio fountains! The room was fairly large, and clean with an awesomely large glass shower. We spent some time getting settled in and ready for the night before heading down to place a sports bet before heading out for dinner.

Our dinner reservation for tonight were at Juan's Flaming Fajitas thanks to some reviews I read here and I have to say we were VERY impressed with this place! We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas for two which arrived at the table quickly and were set on fire in an impressive show. With your meal you're given chips and 3 different types of salsa complimentary and i have to say the tortillas you get with the fajitas were the freshest I've ever tasted! Total bill with tip was less than $40

After leaving Juan's, we went back to Paris and spent the rest of the night exploring around Paris, Bally's and The Cromwell hitting some slot machines along the way before going to bed for the night. I will say that the slots seem VERY tight right now and weren't giving us any play or bonuses. Total gambling loss for the day was about $100.

    Day 2 Friday:

I woke up about 6AM and left Lacy sleeping while I went down to try the slots. and was pretty much losing but would occasionally hit a bonus or line pay that brought me back a little. Most of the machines took your money right away with no play but I was lucky enough to hit a bonus for about $65 on a Double DaVinci Diamonds machine putting me up about $20 on the morning. I went back up the the room where we got ready and left for a late breakfast / early lunch.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-45-35.png
Our breakfast this morning was at one of our favorites, Hash House A Go Go! For this meal we ate at the one on west Sahara and the meal was AWESOME! We had the chicken and waffles as well as a mean with the HUGE chocolate chip pancake, eggs, and sausage. So much food and between the two of us we couldn't finish it. Total bill was around $45.

After breakfast we went to check out Counts Kustoms which has been something I've wanted to do for a while now. Thankfully we had GPS to find the place being that it's tucked back in a bunch of buildings in a place you wouldn't expect it to be. The cars were great and we were able to see quite a few that I watched them build on the shows. Unfortunately, we never saw anyone from the show but we got some nice pictures of the cars.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-46-34.png
After Count's Kustoms, we decided to go downtown and spend the day around Fremont Street. We decided to park at The D which was easy but the ramp is REALLY small and tight to drive through so if you have a larger SUV or truck I would recommend parking elsewhere. We had a very short walk from the parking garage into the casino where we got new cards and cashed in a couple of coupons for match play chips and did a little gambling but again, to keep with the theme we lost. We walked around Fremont Street down to the new Circa and after having out ID's scanned, we walked inside. This place is impressive! The hotel / casino / sports book is beautiful but it does feel a little too fancy for downtown. Also, the machines were incredibly tight and we lost our butts. We walked around Fremont some more while cashing in free play and match play coupons and kept losing money while waiting for our dinner reservations at Whiskey Licker Up upstairs at Binions. We were seated at the counter seating overlooking Fremont which was awesome being able to people watch while eating. We used the BOGO coupon from the Las Vegas Advisor coupon book for the Shrimp Po' Boy and the Drunken burger and WOW, the food was AMAZING. This was the one place I wasn't sure about eating as I hadn't seen many reviews but the food and atmosphere were great! I will say that our server was a little less than friendly but she did what she had to do at least. Total cost with coupon and tip was less than $25!

After dinner we left Fremont Street and headed to our reservations for the tour at The Neon Museum. I've wanted to check this place out for a long time and never got around to it until now. The tour, history, and brilliant experience were amazing and Lacy and I both said it was one of the highlights of our trip. I would highly recommend this place and the money goes to a good cause. Unfortunately, Neon is becoming a thing of the past in Las Vegas (such a sad thing) and being able to help them preserve it by taking these tours and making donations is the least we can do. Also our tour guide was awesome at what he does and made the whole thing really enjoyable. As for the brilliant experience, it was hard to believe that non of the signs really worked as the way they put it together I would have thought most of them were really lighting up.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-40-2.png
After we were done at The Neon museum we were going to drive back to Paris until I saw the sign for Jerry's Nugget in the distance. I had never been to Jerry's Nugget so I convinced Lacy we should check it out. Let me say right now I was amazed with the amount of homeless people around Las Vegas right now and it was very evident on our drive to Jerry's nugget. We signed up as new members to the slot club (only received cheap cloth bags) and cashed in a couple of coupons which was a joke and took 20+ minutes for them to figure out what they were doing. We did ok on the slots and made a little money while watching security deny entry to a man who had his pants sagging. About 20 minutes later we heard noises behind us and turned around to find people yelling / screaming and security wrestling around on the floor with who we believe is the same man they had originally refused entry to. Tensions were high and a large group gathered around the incident so we decided this was a good time to head back to Paris and go to bed. Total gambling loss of about $100 again.

    Day 3 Saturday:

Again this morning I woke up around 6AM and went down to gamble at Paris. Within the 1st 15 minutes I was already down about $60 while only betting about .50 per spin so to put it mildly the machines were TERRIBLE! I wandered over to Planet Hollywood to check the place out where I was able to slow roll my way to minimal losses over the next hour and a half but still wandered back to the hotel room down almost $100 after 2 hours. Side note, nothing like playing the Bier Haus slot machine betting .50 and hitting the bonus for 30 free spins plus random wilds thinking it will help with your losses just to win $4.90 ugh!!!! We got ready for breakfast and headed out to a new place for us called Blueberry Hill. Unfortunately, they lost our reservations (VERY UNORGANIZED!) but they were able to get us a table about 15 minutes after what our reservations were for. This place was BUSY with probably 50+ people waiting around outside for tables. The food was awesome and we had a 4 egg meat lovers omelet with breakfast potatoes, patty melt, and piece of chocolate cream pie. Our total bill was about $45 and we will definitely go back again.

    upload_2021-2-20_21-49-40.png
After breakfast we headed to Excalibur to cash in our $25 free play rewards from MyVegas. We were surprised we had to wait in line at the rewards counter for 20+ minutes due to them only having one person working. We were able able to convert our $50 in free play into $53 cash and headed over to New York New York to try and do the same thing again. When we went outside the weather had done a 180 and it was dark, overcast / rainy, and 40+ mph winds. After almost getting blown back into Excalibur we arrived at New York New York and got out MyVegas rewards redeemed quickly. We were able to turn our $50 free play into $59 cash which we considered a huge win with how our gambling has been going this trip. We walked back to the car and drove down to the Wynn to spend the afternoon / evening on the northern end of the strip. We walked around the Wynn for a while taking some pictures and wandered over the to The Venetian and Palazzo. We tried our luck at some of the slots and were quickly down $100 with hardly any pays and one bonus betting .50 where we got paid $2.50 ugh..... Again, this is how the trip has been. Feeling defeated, we went to see if they would take us early for our dinner reservations which they luckily did.

For dinner we wanted something easy and ate at Grimaldi's Pizzeria at the Palazzo. The service was good, the atmosphere was fine, and the pizza hit the spot. Would I eat here again? Probably but it's not worth going out of the way for and they're plenty of better choices around. Total bill around $35
    upload_2021-2-20_21-48-19.png
After dinner, we were both pretty tired of losing our money and getting no play at the strip casinos so we headed down to the South Point to try our luck away from the strip. We enjoyed the atmosphere and game selection at South Point and even though we lost money in the end we had LOTS of fun and hit a bunch of bonuses which made things a lot more enjoyable. Our favorite machines that we found here were called YardBirds3 which were tons of fun, had good pays, and lots of bonuses!
    upload_2021-2-20_21-31-51.png
After leaving South Point we decided to go a little further and stopped at the M Resort. We played around a little but didn't find a lot of machines we liked so we were ready to go rather quickly. On the way out I decided to throw $20 into a quarter jacks or better video poker machine which just so happened to be a 9/6 full pay machine. I almost never play video poker and my wife didn't really want to sit around while I did so this was a REALLY quick session. Luckily, within my $20 I hit 4 3's for 125 quarters and was able to cash out ahead.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-32-28.png
After leaving M Resort we decided to make one more stop for the night and swung into Silverton to check it out. The Silverton is a nice property that we feel comfortable at but the machines seemed to be taking after the strip and took our money quickly. We left down again after a short visit.

As we were driving back to Paris we decided that we needed our In-N-Out burger fix while in Las Vegas and were amazed with how busy this place was at 12:30AM! We took our food back to Paris and ate double double's and fries in bed before we called it a night. Total gambling loss around $100 on the day

    Day 4 Sunday:

Happy Valentines day! Due to my bad luck gambling in the mornings and starting the day on the wrong foot I decided to sleep in a little today. We woke up, got ready, and walked over to Planet Hollywood to see what was going on. We hit a couple machines staying about even and wandered over to McDonald's for a quick breakfast (after waiting 20+ minutes for the line and food) and then headed over to the Cosmo. I will say now that the Cosmo was our favorite vibe and by far had the most machines that we enjoyed playing. We hit some bonuses, had some decent pays, and had fun but were still down money when we left. We walked over to the Bellagio to watch the fountains and redeem another MyVegas reward and I have to say we weren't impressed with the Bellagio at all! We were going to walk through the conservatory but the line was VERY long and would have probably taken an hour hour to get through so we skipped it. We redeemed our rewards and were not impressed at all with the slot selection in the casino. So many high denomination games ($2+ machines) and the first two machines I played malfunctioned / locked up and wouldn't quit playing the music from the machines loudly. The first machine my wife played wouldn't dispense her ticket so we had to wait for a slot tech and let me tell you, they're nowhere to be found! By the time we finally got out free play run through the machines we turned our $50 in free play into $17 cash - absolutely ridiculous! I have to say that I have no reason to return to Bellagio anytime soon.

After our walk around the strip we went back to the room and got dressed for our Valentines dinner. We had reservations at The Steakhouse at Circus Circus (crappy hotel / casino but awesome steakhouse). Let me start out by saying that I ate here probably 15 years ago and was impressed with the quality for the price but they have upped the prices since then. No wonder they don't have a menu with prices posted on the internet because our total bill with tip was $175! We each ordered the ribeye's (no size listed on menu) with asparagus, baked potato, and garlic mashed. The meal also came with salad, bread, and for Valentines day they gave us complimentary chocolate covered strawberry's for desert! The food and service were top notch and I would guess the steaks were between 24-30 ounces each and HUGE! I would highly recommend this place to everyone! Total dinner with tip $175
    upload_2021-2-20_21-36-45.png
    upload_2021-2-20_21-37-9.png
After dinner we wanted to avoid the strip again and decided to check out Palace Station where we found some fun machines to play but lost money in the end. We went back to Paris where we walked and checked out The Flamingo, Linq, and unsurprisingly ended up back at the Cosmo to finish off our final night. Another night of gambling losses intertwined with some fun and this trip was over WAY to quickly. We went back to the hotel and went to bed. Total daily gambling loss of about $100.
    upload_2021-2-20_21-34-45.png
Day 5 Monday - Going home:

We woke up early and had to bring the car back to Budget at 10AM. The return process went smoothly and we caught the shuttle back to the airport. After sitting around people watching until we were able to check in we got some Quiznos ate a quick lunch and got ready to board the plane. At this time we found out our flight was COMPLETELY packed at actually had people waiting on standby. The flight was uneventful and before we knew it we were getting into our car and feeling the wonderful -15 degree temperatures.

    Quick thoughts:

1 - For everyone that says people aren't traveling or going to Las Vegas, that's a lie! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were pretty much packed with people everywhere. Granted, this was a holiday weekend but....

2 - The slot machines are REALLY tight which brings the fun down a little but the atmosphere is still great.

3 - The amount of homeless people / dirtiness around is getting excessive. I understand people are going through tough times but it is much more prevalent than I ever remember.

4 - I collect casino chips / tokens / silver strikes so I didn't play and of the ones I got from The D or Golden Gate. If you get any of these that are different than the ones I got (or even the same) and you don't want them, let me know.

5 - The smell of marijuana is pretty prevalent at random times, even in the rental car.

6 - Our restaurant choices were great and I'd recommend all of them ESPECIALLY Juan's Flaming Fajitas!

7 - The slot selection at a lot of casinos (Especially Caesar's properties) are really lacking! The removal of themed machines is very disappointing. For the strip the Cosmo is about the only property with a good selection of themed machines.

8 - Drink service is VERY slow for the most part. My first morning at Paris I got a few in the hour or two I played but the next day I made it over 2 hours without even being asked. Cosmo during the day was pretty good.

9 - For people who are hesitant about visiting Vegas right now I would totally recommend just going. Things are a little different and the masks suck but the atmosphere is still good and getting away from our normal lives is MUCH needed. Go, have fun, and just be as safe as you can.

In conclusion, we had a great trip full of amazing food and lousy gambling. I can't wait until our next trip and hopefully the world is in a better place and we don't need to make reservations everywhere and wear masks. Thanks for reading and hopefully I help some people with their Vegas withdrawls.

P.S. As I said earlier, I collect casino chips, tokens, and silver strikes from Las Vegas and other areas. If you have any laying around that you want to get rid of, let me know!

How often are you told you look like Jason Segal?
Looked like the two of you had a wonderful time. Your room at Paris looked real nice. The steak at Circus Circus looked fantastic...I've heard a lot of good things about that steak house. Looking forward to checking out Juan's Flaming Fajitas on my next trip. M has 9/6 JoB in 25¢ denom...great!

What a refreshing trip report. It's well written and the photos are great, and the two of you are always smiling. The tone of the report just made me sit here on a winter's night and smile along with you. Gosh, I wish I had some old casino chips to send your way.

    Thanks!

Nice report! I agree with a lot of your final points, especially number 7! Caesars has gutted their slot selection. MGM unfortunately has as well by and large. It's the reason why I'm making the Cosmo my new base.

Good report! Too many people sleep on Jerry's Nuggett! It's one of my favorite places in Vegas. We hit it at least twice every trip. Never had a problem there and always treated very well. $3 craps, $1 Ultimate, .25 roulette.

The food is good and the comps are pretty generous. Everyone should give this place a shot.

Glad to see you hit up Ellis as well. It was our first time in Dec and we loved it. The BBQ place was pretty good as well.

Nice report I was in town the same time and concur about Sat & Sunday as busy as ever in Vegas. Oh and the pot smell is horrendous. Not sure I could have accepted a rental car with that aroma. Things are getting better inVegas so I also say plan your trips and get back to the city we all love

Thanks for a great report! I stayed at Paris last week (basic room ) but just love the atmosphere. And I thought there were too many themed slots My “grinder” slots (China Shores, etc) were all gone. you were smart to make reservations for meals. I just never know when I want to eat!

Spectacular trip report in every respect. It was a great read and fun, colorful (loved all of the pics) and super informative (including the new food places, which I need to try!). Even though the slots were tight you two clearly looked like you were having a wonderful time and I loved how you really explored other casinos and other experiences in Vegas, from the Neon Museum to Count's Kustoms. I'm not even a car person but that looks like a cool place to check out.

On a side note, your wife's eyes are stunning. Love that photo of you two on the plane.

And your experience last weekend is consistent with what my host told me. He said with Valentine's Day, President's Day, Chinese New Year, etc. etc. (and Wynn had a slot tournament that weekend as well), he said it was extremely busy, much busier than Super Bowl weekend.

We’ve stayed at Paris our last 2 trips. I like to rooms and the laid back vibe. Plus that’s the best place I get comps usually.

We were last In Vegas oct 30-nov 2. Obviously things are “different “. The mask wearing thing is bothersome but I will comply hoping we won’t have to wear them sooner than later. As for the marijuana issue on the strip...I was very disappointed that the city is allowing this to be as prevalent as it is. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but we were told by a bartender at CP it’s illegal to smoke marijuana on the strip. It’s simply not being enforced.
Hopefully they’ll have an odorless version soon so it can’t be smelled so much on the strip!

I thought the same thing. Stunning...like Chris Pine's eyes.

I almost wrote the same thing, but I thought that I might come off as sexist or chauvinistic. Thanks, @Flowers for confirming my thoughts.
