I know it's way too early to be obsessing about such details about a trip in August, but planning/obsessing over Vegas trips is one of the great joys in life and it's especially sweet during ongoing pandemic lockdown. So...

I'm currently scheduled to arrive for my next trip on a Sunday in August. I just checked the baseball schedule and the last round of games start at 1:00 pm Vegas-time. My flight is scheduled to arrive at 11:23 am. Obviously, there are a lot of variables here, but what would you suppose is my fastest route to get in a sports bet before first pitch? (Obviously, the fastest would be to place the bet on my phone, but it's unlikely I'll have an opportunity to open an account before then.)

I'll be staying at the MGM Grand that first night, and it's probably the closest geographically, but the sportsbook is SO FAR from the front desk. I was thinking maybe OYO? Do they have a sportsbook?

    Any thoughts appreciated!

I gotta think you'll be able to find 5-10 minutes at some point in the next 6 months...

Hire a private car so there is no delay at the airport and Oyo is your closest book (its a WH book). Plus, from there, its an easy walk to the front desk at MGM to checkin afterward

I would think Silver Sevens would be very close.

True! I've got 5-10 minutes right now, in fact! Unfortunately, mobile betting isn't legal where I live, and betting with offshore books is not an option for me given the nature of my employment. There's an outside chance that I may be able to swing through Virginia or New Jersey at some point, but it's unlikely.

Is online betting legal in Vegas? If so could you do it after you land? I am not a sports bettor but I thought you could do it in Vegas on your phone.

In the 2 cases I have tried to set up mobile betting apps on my phone, with William Hill and Boyd, it was a terrible experience. I suggest ubering to Silver Sevens or the Virgin hotel (formerly hard rock) if they have a sports book. Or if you rent a car, maybe the south point or Silverton on the south side of the airport. But renting a car can add about 1/2 hour at least.

You can register an account anywhere, you just need to be in a legalized state to actually place a bet.

Yes, but you have to verify ID in person in Nevada to be allowed to wager via mobile phone, so unless that's already been done beforehand, that saves no time.

Unless his flight is delayed, he should be able to make the bet at MGM, especially if he bothers to make the bet before checking-in. That still seems like easiest option vs going to a completely different casino just to make these bets.

OYO would be my 2nd choice, but only if you are down to about 10 minutes before first pitch when you got there. And of course, have your picks ready when you get off the plane!

Online sports betting (there are many providers) and online poker (only through Caesars/888). Casino wagering is not online.
You can "register" an account, but as Tring said, you need to be able finalize it in person, much as with players clubs.

I generally agree with Tring on MGM being easier, but the sportsbook is at the ass-end of the property by the overpass. However, you can also give your bags to the bell desk, then race across the property and check in afterwards. Since you have to be there in person, you can place your bets at the window and also activate your account at the same time. And as I think about it, depending on how much luggage you have, that might be easier than dragging your bags across OYO and then back across the street to MGM.

Ah, I don't believe you have to do that in IL, or it was at least temporarily suspended last year due to covid, so you could complete your registration entirely online.

Same with New Jersey, but NV does not allow remote registration. It's different from state-to-state and an ongoing negotiation out here.

Yeah that's been suspended until further notice. Thankfully for me. I dunno if I would have drove to Peoria to sign up for Fan Duel. Lol

And signing up in person for William Hill at Grand Victoria would surely be a disaster. That place is a cracker box.

Not to derail the conversation, but I have never heard this phrase used to describe anything other than a box in which there are crackers.
