Is there a movie (or movies) you have been meaning to see that you FINALLY did? And what was your reaction? Worth the hype? Not worth your time?

You know, you have seen/read so many reviews of it. Your friends and family telling you "that you HAVE to see this - what are you waiting for? Watch the movie!"

For me, I just recently watched Shawshank Redemption. Yeah, I know, I am so late on this movie. I totally enjoyed it! I loved all the characters, especially Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, of course. But the storyline was great. I normally do not like narration, but this was totally appropriate for this movie.

Would like to read your response!

The last one I saw like this was a few months ago. I finally saw Cast Away. It was fine, but I have no desire to watch it again.

"The Princess Bride". Was a mainstay on rainy days at summer camp. Hated it for years. It's now one of my favorites.

I tried to watch "Breakfast at Tiffany's", but I couldn't get through the Mickey Rooney "Mr. Yunioshi" scenes and had to stop.

27 years late on Shawshank, but better late than never! I think it's perhaps the greatest film of all time. A story of redemption and hope but also anger at the cruelty of life and the passage of time. A great ending that's open ended as to whether it actually happened, or it's some heaven allegory. Beautifully directed and shot. The rooftop beers scene is amazing, as are many other parts.

Totally agree. I think Breakfast... is only good because of Hepburn's performance, but as a movie overall, it's pretty dreadful. I actually like Hepburn much better in My Fair Lady and How to Steal a Million.

Now, to the topic, I finally watched that movie Parasite, last year's Oscar winner. While I liked it, and its shock factor is excellent, it really doesn't live up to the label as "Best Picture." I mean, Shawshank wasn't even considered Best Picture—lost to Forrest Gump, although I think when you compare those two movies now, Shawshank has to be considered better (hope I didn't offend any Forrest fans). I would even argue that Pulp Fiction (also nominated that year) was a better movie than Gump.

I can't think of one for me. My husband has an old, "controversial" movie he has wanted to see for decades. I have seen it and don't feel the need to see it again.

So when I ask, "What do you want to watch?", he mumbles something about how he has been patiently waiting. Dammit, that man is going to make me see "Fritz the Cat" again, isn't he? :haha:

Second Hand Lions surprised both of us.
Haley Joel Osment, Michael Caine, and Robert Duvall
The old guys' stories, photographed as the kid is visualizing it, was masterful.
And a really good story it was/is/supposed to be.

I hesitate with this one. It's a very non traditional western. Well, it starts as traditional and takes a very violent and graphic turn into horror. Fair warning!
    So, for something completely different,
    Bone Tomahawk
Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, and Mathew Fox
    Please don't hate me afterwards.

I guess I must be very different from most, but I finally saw Schindler's List a few months ago and I was underwhelmed.
We were also very disappointed at Avatar.

If he likes Ralph Bakshi, he should check out Wizards- also very weird (if he wants to watch it for... other reasons then nevermind). Or American Pop, which is a little more, shall we say, sedate?

Yes, UNLESS you're REALLY into it, you can skip the rest. I tried to watch them expecting them to get better. They don't. The first was the best.

Stephen King has basically described it as a non-romantic love story. Frank Darabont was also one of the first beneficiaries of King's "dollar babies" deal. Say what you want about Stephen King, but the man can put together a hell of a story.

This one can get dicey. My parents made me sit down and watch it when NBC aired it (without any ads) when I was about ten. My younger sister, when she was a summer camp counselor, used to make her group watch it every year. I made my ex sit down and watch it with me. As purely a piece of entertainment, that's one thing, but... all that stuff happened.

Also, I once was supposed to meet my best friend for dinner. My ex said we were running late, and I responded that "Empire Strikes Back" was on TV and ending soon. She responded that nobody would care. I texted my friend and told him that "Empire" was on; he said, "crap, I'm gonna be late too".

"Jedi" was about six hours too long, though. And the prequel trilogy was garbage, though Disney has done a pretty good job with it since then.
