    Friday moving to Golden Nugget
I slept till almost 8AM :woohoo: Felt so good again.
Finished off my grapes & a pack of peanut butter crackers (I brought a box from home JIC I needed something to eat quick). I have a reservation at Chart House at 4:00

Packed up & ubered to GN - just a few FYIs
    No bell service
Registration now doesn’t open until 11:00, VIP is closed and the sign directs you to regular check in
They’ve taken away the benches so I was lugging my bags to the casino until check in
I understand their reasoning, but I wanted to pass on the info so other people are aware.

My gold tower room wasn’t ready & the guy said it could easily be a couple more hours since housekeeping was just getting into many rooms. He had a 20th floor Rush room ready on the quiet side (as I asked) and I said I’ll take it!
He was very apologetic but I wasn’t bothered - there are far more serious issues out there.

Got settled in, activated my free play offer and headed for my favorite Double Wild Cherry & Triple Diamond carousel. - WTH? Both machines were locked down - only every other machine turned on:cry::cry::cry:

But luckily my 2 favorite VP machines & both Double 777 machines were on:)
No royal, but a profitable afternoon!

It was beautiful outside so I headed for a walk down to the D then up to the Plaza to stretch my legs & enjoy the weather before dinner.

Chart House. I usually get the lunch portion of coconut shrimp & lava cake but they are opening for dinner at 4:00. I thought I’d try the mixed platter (nixed the calamari and the chef added more shrimp!)
I’d never had fried lobster, but all the batter just isn’t my thing. I peel the tempura off & ate plain.
The lava cake with ice cream & toffee pieces:feedme:

Looks like your having a nice time although the temps aren't so great. Stay healthy and safe. I'll be following when i can or at the end. Hope that the temps will change by end of next month and if not, i'll be going to FL instead of LV. I know, i know....but i need sun and chair near a pool, what can i say.

    Thank you rm22!

I actually don’t mind 40s as long as I’m moving. Walking between casinos is OK and it’s funny to see the locals bundled up in parkas, hats & gloves. I only packed 1 long sleeve shirt for eating outside at MAG. It’s almost the reverse of summer, it’s so dry that 40 in Vegas is like 50 in Kansas City. December has always been my favorite month is Vegas for the cooler weather (along with the rodeo:cowboy:)

Good luck on your trip & enjoy the sun & pools wherever you end up. (But there are casinos in FL for a quick fix)

    Take care & stay well,
    Ann

Some of the story came back to me.... believe it or not, it was someone trying to reheat a pizza. The cap for me was that there was a pizza by the slice sorta place in the lobby, or right next door, or something. The guy telling me the story had me in stiches.

The whole 'to-go' box is a weird one, I'll try and explain. Funnily enough, it all started in Strip House.... This was a very long time ago and I was sat in a mixed group enjoying dinner. At the end of the meal, the waiter asked if I wanted the leftovers boxed. There was maybe 2oz of steak and some veggies. My limited thought process was 1) no-one in the UK ever did the to-go thing so it was alien to me +2) we are going bar hopping straight after, what am I meant to do with it? +3) I don't have a fridge or microwave in the room (oh little did I know...) The waitress looked at me like I had just crapped in her slippers or something (or maybe she was saying "use the hairdryer dude!!" and the girl next to me quickly tidied up and restored equilibrium by asking for it to be boxed. As we walked out onto the strip, I asked what she was going to do with the box and she replied that she had no idea, likely trash, but she didn't want to cause "offence" to the restaurant?!?! - I just put it down to a cultural faux-pas on my part and on we went. Next corner was a guy down on his luck (in UK there are plagues of professional beggars that have more money and a nicer car than I do) this guy looked emaciated, so we gave him the to-go box, including a large portion of those aforementioned garlic potatoes to deal with. Since then, that has been the custom as I like a variety of sides with dinner so usually over-order a lil bit and someone on one of the bridges does ok by it.

But now.... I have a hairdryer to think about :licklips:

    PS - what's the 'other way' ??

Great to see the winning carrying over to Downtown. Great tip on the hairdryer food warmer.

We are off by a week. I have Chart House booked for next Thursday at 4:30. Already planning to get Coconut Shrimp and a side of crab legs. I had forgot about the lave cake till I saw your post.

What a wonderful day you had yesterday.

Love the makeshift breakfast. Those are some of my favorites. Even with being RFB I still bring with me from home an easy 5 or 6 POUNDS of snacks (breakfast bars, sweets, nuts, etc.). I just like always having something on hand "just in case" LOL but they they are great to tide me over between meals or as you did, adding something to one of the items I brought for a super easy, convenient and fast breakfast in the room.

Love how you roll generally and also with the GN. I agree. You're in Vegas having a great time so definitely not worth it or cool to get upset about little things that can't be helped.

Congrats on all of the VP and slot wins.

    And that dessert. YUM.

Most especially, I love that you have been there a few days and haven't touched any more envelopes. It's a winning trip already! If I went home with even most of my BR intact, let alone a penny more, that would be a financially successful trip.

Wishing you more good times and good luck today.

An additional note: Vegas is even more glorious when you get to wake up after a great night's sleep! You were ready for the day yesterday!

This looks like you're having a fantastic time. I should try GN again - we stayed once, but drank a bottle of champagne and it's good we took pictures because I don't remember anything.

The “other way” was to have some foil and make a pocket to put the food in and use the coffee pot warmer as a hot plate, flipping over to heat both sides. May be outdated since the bigger Mr. Coffee pots are rare in the hotels anymore since Kurigs arrived.

    Good luck!

Thank you emmas! I can’t make it thru a big meal but if I split in half it works out perfect and I can try a few additional options without wasting.

Thanks Ty - see you soon!

Thank you Flowers - I took notes from your wonderful trip reports:beer: This is the longest trip I’ve ever taken (thank you retirement) and realized I have plenty of time - although it doesn’t feel like one week is already passed.

I think the GN lava cake is the best in town & even superior to GR’s toffee pudding (which I love). Those broken toffee pieces all over the top is :woohoo:

That is really saying something as I heard the GR toffee pudding is awesome. I haven't yet tried either but I love anything with toffee so both of those are going on my dessert list!

Yes I am and yes you should. The GN was our first casino hotel back in 1985 and holds great memories. They have always taken great care of us/me (after he passed)

Thank you txsteph! And congratulations on your wedding - have a wonderful life together!

    Saturday GN & downtown

Well, odds were it would happen, but Ouch, Ouch, Ouch:( (Luckily a great meal to help ease the pain:feedme:)

Here is today’s win - yes, just one.........

    FA55C148-876C-4B28-9992-0880A1C2C4C2.jpeg

I played VP & slots at GN, Fremont, 4 queens & the D - this one hit first thing at GN was it.

When I got back to the GN there was an opening on the $5 UTH table. First hand was a flush & I “thought” maybe the day had changed. Nope, nada in $300.

Had a reservation at Salt Grass Steakhouse for 4:00 but they let me move it up thankfully to a walk in since they were still fairly empty.

Forgot to take a pic of the menu, but it is on their website.

Soft bread - with honey butter
    3F525538-4B25-425B-8BC4-8856D95BFB19.jpeg

It’s more of a sports bar with country music playing. They have booths, 4 & 6 tops and have the seating on the other side by the pool.

I opted out of the cucumbers & tomatoes on the salad so it may look really plain to most folks

This steak was fantastic & cooked to a perfect med-rare - the small 6 oz filet. More my type of BBQ grilled
    51BD3C18-389D-45EF-BFC1-8458A609B049.jpeg
And somehow this carrot cake ended up in my leftover bag for this evening.
    C7C2F6E0-716A-4904-9976-AB25773ED7F6.jpeg

Went back out for a walk around Fremont street but it was getting very crowded so I decided to head back to my room & watch a movie & rest up for an early morning.

    Have a great evening

    Peggy Ann

P.S. - Grease just started - I’m in heaven. What a different Saturday night in Vegas than my late 20s!

Never thought about a hairdryer for heating, what a great idea. Not sure though if the heat will be enough.

YUM. Honey butter, bread and that carrot cake . . .

Wishing you a great night. I feel your pain regarding today's gambling. Had a few of those during my last trip. ARGH and UGH.

But, tomorrow is a NEW day!

I had no idea Salt Grass had opened at GN. Is Vic&Anthony;s open as well? Unusual to have 2 steakhouses on property of that size, although perhaps they don't fully overlap on target audience.
