I just saw a day or two ago that he left LV to treat his health issues ( I thought cancer) and he died so quickly.

[Thanks to all who posted this news- I moved all the threads to this forum & merged - no personal offense intended! You were all on the ball and didn't do anything wrong- it's just easier to keep everything in one thread.]

May he RIP. He was the only (I believe) casino owner who paid his employers full pay and benefits during the Covid shutdowns.

He certainly left his mark on Las Vegas. I hope the lights are dimmed on The Strip to note his passing.

Venetian Palazzo and Circa are the only current Strip/Downtown casinos I haven’t stayed at beyond rebranding changes (i. e. stayed at Monte Carlo, Fitzgerald’s and Bill’s but not Park MGM, The D or Cromwell). That will be rectified soon, hopefully later this year.

I hope whoever takes over removes that perfume air “freshener” stench sprayed in there. The El Cortez was the only rival.

One of those people that fit the "larger than life" phrase.

I wonder what the bench strength is at the corporation(s) and what might change going forward? He built quite an amazing empire. Forbes says he was worth over $23 billion.

    Well worth a read. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Adelson

From the Campanile Tower to St Marks Square to the Acqua di Cristallo water sculpture, hand painted ceiling, Grand Canal, to the exquisite detail found in every nook and cranny, Venetian/Palazzo is one of my favorite places to visit, truly iconic, thanks to one of many visionaries that made Vegas the special place it is.

    RIP

I think he goes into the bracket of flawed genius, alongside Steve Wynn. Whatever you think of his personal views and politics, there is no denying that Venetian remains one of, if not THE most spectacular property on the strip, and one which manages to carry through its theme in every part of the property with great results.

+1 on the perfume stench though.

I didn’t know that. That was good of him to do in these rough financial times.

Incidentally, @Dan_Tanna , I love your name! My husband and I started watching Vega$ during lockdown and got addicted! I was a baby when it came out so it’s cool to see what Las Vegas looked like back then.

Wasn't good for poker players, but any ire I had over that was forgotten.

Commendable how well he looked after everyone within the company during the terrible 2020.

    RIP

An icon for sure. Vegas should definitely do something.

They've had a tribute to him up on the big billboard over the freeway at the stadium all day.

Adelson built a couple of wonderful properties at which we stayed numerous times before the focus changed to conventioneers, with the attendant comp shrinkage and increased hold for games. I particularly liked the high floors at Palazzo at the end overlooking the Wynn golf course.

Adelson the man was something of an enigma, with some genuine good mixed with undesirable, even egregious (from my perspective) traits and behaviors. Local friends of mine who knew him reasonably well did not like him.

I hated when they blew down the Sands tower and the corresponding buildings, but I really love the Venetian and its spacious rooms.

Very awesome. I did not know much about the man personally but his work speaks for itself and for what we have enjoyed due to his vision is worth all the tributes.
