So i want to buy a new or used car. I have 3 kids so I was thinking a mini van or a mini SUV. Thinking either dodge or toyota mini van and a Hyundai palisade or kia sorento.
Anyone got any thoughts on a car brand that they recommend?

I do like Hyundai because of their 10yr/100k mile warranty. I think toyota has a slightly better warranty. ?

I currently own a Hyundai elantra that I'm about to pay off and then I get a new car.. were keeping the elantra for now.

The Hyundai Palisade has gotten terrific reviews. Were I in the market, I'd definitely be looking in that direction.

I had always been a Toyota guy till 4 years ago. Great vehicles but overpriced IMHO. Ive been leasing Mazda for the past 4 years. I think the quality is on par. Wife also had a Highlander but now drives a Nissan Rouge.

stay away from dodge, Kia and Hyundai are the same company, they had a bad run of motors a few years back but are solid...Toyota would be the front runner but nothing wrong with the Kia/Hyundai

Rouge would be too small with 3 kids and all the stuff they have.

Have you looked at the Subaru Ascent? I don't know how old your kids are but the 3 row seating keeps them apart if need be. Good mileage and AWD. Sort of a cross between minivan and SUV.

KIA Telluride is the beast in the SUV market right now but some dealers are selling 10k over MSRP so shop around

We bought a Honda Odyssey, was a demo with 2,600 miles on it. Bought in 2012, put 75k on it and had for 6 years. NEVER had a problem with it, only needed oil changes and tires. Lot of room for the kids, even hauling stuff. Definitely recommended.

Only reason wife wanted to move on from it because she was over the whole minivan thing. Before getting the Honda, she was in the camp of: We’re not going to be THOSE people who drive a minivan! But she saw the practicality of it and agreed to buy, then of course she was later good with it. Then later on, I wanted to keep it because it was paid off!

    Guess who won?

Now she drives a small SUV she’s more happy with that can still accommodate the kids.

    Welcome to married life.

I'm not a car expert, as long as it has bluetooth I'm happy. We bought a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid two months ago. The charger plugs into our garage outlet (regular 3-prong). It does take 8 hours to fully charge but you can purchase a quick charger for about $100 I think. My husband works about 33 miles away and fills the tank about every two weeks. If you have any questions about it, I will be happy to ask Hubby.

There are some great websites to compare cars, costs, trim levels, etc.
    https://www.edmunds.com/ is one of them
    cars.com

And if buying used, lots of places to see what real prices are.

If you go Toyota and are thinking of buying an extended warranty, do not, repeat, do not buy as part of the deal. You can get it for about half from other dealers and you can wait until just before the 3 yr, 36 month timeframe to buy it.

I forgot about the Telluride but that is of interest to me too.

My kids are 10,4,3 so they all get on each others nerves sitting close together.

First key on this, avoid FiatChrysler like the plague (unless a Ram truck).

Most so-called SUVs are effectively sedans with big boxes or vans with sleeker styling. Depending on where you live, AWD can always be a preference, whatever classification of vehicle, but it's still not a cure-all in adverse weather and things like tires and driving acumen come into play, and in many parts of the country it's an unwarranted expense.

(Add: If you live in a place with a lot of rain even if there is little snow, consider AWD.)

If you've not done so, invest the tiny amount of $$ to get an online subscription to Consumer Reports and dig into the reviews and ratings.

I work for a very large nationwide car dealership and must say we all cringe when a Chrysler Pashitfica comes in. Never ending problems and cheapness all around. They sell very easy though which I understand at face value but you should avoid. Most other suggestions so far quality wise look good.

I guess I've been pretty lucky. I've got a 2012 Dodge Avenger, 120k miles, bought it in 2013 with less than 20k miles and have only done brakes, tires, and an alternator.

Standard caveat applies: Very reliable brands occasionally build a stinker. And vice versa. But unless one feels an overriding need to have a specific vehicle and the averages be damned, the law of averages exists for a reason.
