Ringing in the New Year Weathering the Storm With Smashing Wins and Celebrations the Norm!

Yes, my annual New Years trip is unofficially underway though I am now in my 13th hour of sitting in the Buffalo airport weathering the first major snowstorm here in some time.

I was supposed to depart Buffalo at 6:15 am, connecting through Detroit and arriving in Vegas at 10:15 am. That flight as of 30 minutes ago was supposed to have departed at 6:10 pm (12 hours and 5 minutes later) to connect to a flight that would get to Vegas around 10:15 PM. Even though the pilots were on the plane that flight was just cancelled and now they are putting us on a later Detroit flight but I am cutting really close my connection.

Figuring out plan B now. Will post some pictures after I do.

Most of the title of this trip report is wishful thinking but hey, I figured it can't hurt to focus on the positive.

No matter, I look forward to having a relaxing, winning and reflective trip while also catching up with @dbueler and potentially some other VMBers if the plans work out.

I really hope they get you out of there soon, and that you make it to vegas as quickly and safely as possible.

Best of luck getting there! The hardest part is wishing to get out of the airport, but not wanting them to take any chances.

Yes, I've had some awful times traveling through the Great Lakes region in winter. Wishing you smooth sailing for the rest of the trip.

So sorry to have read this and are you waiting for the detroit flight or your orig flight to detroit? i thought your orig flight but not 100% sure on that the way you wrote it. You'll be in my thoughts. If it makes you feel any better, on one of my reg FL trips for 3.5 days, i missed my morning flight and had to be on standby for the next 4, can you believe? I think i was at the airport for 8 hrs and i was on competition prep on top of that. Similar to your current situation of being at the airport for hrs. i was never allowed on any of those 4 flights and think i finally got on one at 4pm maybe, cant remember but i was going to be in FL for only 2.5 days or something uhhhh, what a drag. I still run late and havent learned my lesson yet lol. You will get there. Just get there safely and we know you'll be very well rested to play all night long for those big wins of yours. Will be reading your detailed report soon.

Fingers crossed you won't have to be at the airport too much longer. Eagerly awaiting your next update, hoping it will foreshadow lots of multiplied royals once you get to Vegas!



P.S. If all else fails, and I'm sure you've looked into this, but there is a nonstop from BUF on Southwest at 4:55 pm tomorrow.

Edited to add: I'm also sure you've looked into this but mentioning it anyway... if you booked this flight on a credit card with delay insurance, it could be worth investigating if it covers weather delays. I know mine does, and it covers such things as hotel accommodations and rebooking on a flight that will get you there sooner than the original flight. At minimum, the former would sure beat camping out in the airport all this time.
