    Good to see some enforcement.

    "BREAKING: New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and will be suspended for the entire 2021 season, sources familiar with the situation tell ESPN. He will forfeit a $24 million salary. News story will be up soon at ESPN."

    Glad that means the Mets can play McNeil at 2nd base.

    Unbelievably he is set to earn that figure each year (@39-40) for the next 2 after suspension; shades of Bobby Bonilla

    But still due 48 million. You’d think there’d be a clause for such missteps.

    Thankfully, that phrase will be riding off into the sunset with the Wlipons.

    There is. That's why they don't have to pay him this upcoming season. But the agreement with the union doesn't allow the team to terminate the entirety of the contract for this violation

    As a young player with the Yankees, Cano looked up to A-Rod. Hmmm........o_O
    Good luck. :beer::beer:

    Best decision the Yankees made was letting Cano go as a free agent. Of course they signed Jacoby Ellsbury to a huge contract with nothing in return. But that contract is over now. The Mets will still be paying Cano for 2 more years after 2021. It’s amazing that MLB treats money like it’s Monopoly money. And generally most free agent contacts, especially the long ones don’t work out. A typical free agent is 26-30. Most players best years on average are 28-32. If you sign a 30 year old to a long contract, after a few years he’ll be payed for his declining years. But if team don’t go after free agents, it sends a terrible message to the fans. They’re dammed if they don’t, they’re dammed if they do.

    Just my 2 cents

    As a Mets fan this is great news. Watching Cano jog to first base or not diving for ground balls was pissing me off. I will be happy with McNeil playing 2nd everyday. Of course this also opens the path for a LeMahieu signing.

    I don't think Steve Cohen cares.

    And as a defensive Mets fan... Deferring Bobby Bonilla's contract allowed the cash needed to bring on Mike Hampton, who helped us make the World Series.

    Got a supplemental draft pick when Hampton didn't resign, which was used to draft David Wright.

    So I think the Bobby Bo contract worked out ok for the Mets.

    Glad somebody else out there gets it. By the way, have you ever seen the flow chart someone put together for how the Mets acquired David Wright? It goes back to 1967!

    As a Yankees fan, I’d hate to lose DJ. And yes as a Yankees fan I hated the no hustle Cano.

    As a lifelong Mets fan... the Mets are gonna be the Mets. If there is one constant over the past few decades, it's the Mets managing to disappoint me. I was at Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, when Aaron Boone hit a walk-off in the bottom of the 11th to send the Yankees to the World Series; I was also at Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS, when Endy Chavez made the best catch I'd ever seen and then Beltran went down looking.

    Got to assume that Brodie knew Cano was still juicing and traded for his awful contract anyways
