Fair enough, but we aren't talking about someone that has it and spreads it. The question was just someone that breaks protocol for the 14 day quarantine. If you don't have it and tested negative, they won't be able to say you caused an outbreak. I've only seen reports of $1000 fines in the news for this. I don't think 10,000 is the basement. Yes they can but they haven't so it would be hard to assess a larger fine unless someone did something worse.

Correct. It would be impossible for them to put an outbreak on you. And to your basement on fines, it you are observing $1000 fines for breaking 14 day quarantine, that is low. What I can say is in the Vancouver area, the fines are $10000. I had assumed they would be the same across Canada. $1000 would be a bargain!

How's the trip going? Please provide any info regarding flying out of TO and also returning if possible. I'm still contemplating going on a solo trip...looking at mid-December right now.

    Thanks for the detailed info!

Did your wife get effected by this seeing that you both live in the same house? As in, was she forced to quarantine with you or was she allowed to continue to live normally once you got back?

I verbalized a plan for quarantine in my private residence in accordance with the dictated expectations of the government. Interpret that as you deem fit.

In Ontario, the 14 day quarantine means you can’t leave your property and the fine is $10K. Not sure what it would go up to if you broke quarantine and caused an outbreak. My dogs have advised me they aren’t willing to miss their beloved “walkies” for two weeks.

We have cancelled our last 3 trips because we fly Southwest out of Detroit. My wife is in healthcare and really does not want to quarantine anyway so we avoid the drama.

Next booking is February. If they bring the testing to YYZ, then we might go through there to avoid the 'tine.

OK. Quarantine might be easiest part for me. Anyone else concerned about catching the bloody thing down there? If you have a fever, you’re not getting on the plane back to Canada. Allegedly Air Canada now includes USA with its Covid19 insurance package.

@JRRestoule Our trip is going great! When we left Toronto on Oct 27 our flight to Charlotte was 6:21 am, first flight of the day from Terminal 3, next flight out from there was a couple hours later so our flight passengers were the only ones there. Was so empty in the airport which was great, and there were a few food places open. Going through customs he only asked where we were going, we said vegas, and that was it, no other questions, just a 'have a good time'. Flight was a couple hours to Charlotte, 3 hour wait there with more airport traffic and lots of places open for lunch. Arriving in Vegas around 1:30 pm vegas time was almost no one around there, baggage claim seemed deserted.

We stayed the first 4 nights downtown where they did temperature checks going into all casinos, and id or room card had to be shown after 6 pm. Masks and sanitizer available everywhere. Moved to first condo by strip on Saturday. Going into mgm and caesars properties here there are no temperature checks, although masks and sanitizer readily available. Mgm properties have plexiglass at table games, caesars properties that we have been in do not, although they do enforce distancing. Very nice walking around the strip without the barrage of people everywhere. Saw a few scooter groups bombing around, but not as many as I expected.

It's a great time to be here, many restaurants are closed, some only open Thursday to Sunday, some only during the dinner hours. Since no shows available, if you're diamond, which I matched into, you get 2 High Roller passes and 2 passes for Real Bodies at Bally's. High roller was good, only 4 of us in the pod, real bodies was something we wouldn't do again as we found it quite disgusting, but to each their own.

Definitely book your trip but keep in mind that effective November 21st everyone flying into Canada has to complete the covid information before boarding their flight https://www.snowbirdadvisor.ca/news/covid-19-canada-imposes-new-entry-requirements-travellers-2020-11-03.

I'll update again with the flight back on Nov 13, and going through Toronto customs. We will not be downloading the app so we'll see how that goes over with the surly yyz staff.

@jeanf Thanks for the info! Glad your trip is going great! I was wondering about flights out of TO as I wasn't sure which ones are actually taking off. I don't trust Air Canada or WestJet as I'm positive they will be cancelling all flights to Vegas unless the government opens the border, which they won't. So I am looking at a connecting flight and that one through Charlotte was actually one I was looking at, so it's good to know you had no issues. I'm also looking at one via Dallas as well. I'm really trying to avoid any cancelled flights. Please report on your return flight when you get back, I'd appreciate that!

As of now I'm leaning toward going around December 12 for 4 or 5 days. I don't mind the new ArriveCAN method they are planning to impose. Sounds like they are just making the way they currently do things more digital which will hopefully mean a more seamless re-entry into Canada. I already have my quarantine plan so that's not an issue either. If I have to call them daily it will give me something to do haha

@JRRestoule We got back into Toronto Friday night, had such a great long time there. Dropping off our bags in Vegas they asked if we had completed the questionnaire to return to Canada, I told her it doesn't take effect until November 21st, so no we didn't. No lines for security there, no temperature checks, no questions regarding health or symptoms. Got through quickly, took tram to our gate, almost deserted. No lines for breakfast orders anywhere.

Got to Charlotte which was a little busier since it was dinner time, but still no big lineups. Had dinner and went to our gate. They had a table with a form for each to fill out as well as getting a temperature check. We filled out the form, I told my husband this is not a legit form to enter Canada, was a crooked photocopy. Filled it out, then after getting the temperature check they put a thumbs-up stamp on it and told us that customs in Canada will collect it. Are we in kindergarten with this bogus form?

Boarded flight, got into Toronto before 10 pm. And this is where the shitshow started.

Got off plane and made our way through. Our half filled flight was the only one that landed in Terminal 3 so not many of us there. There was no staff whatsoever anywhere to be seen. Kept going through and of course the long escalator up was stopped. Climbed the stairs, kept going through, then we got into the big room with 2 long tables set up with the form to fill out. Still no staff around. Everyone looking around saying what do we do? I looked at the form, said just fill this out and take it to customs. Long form just asked about your flight number, passport number, name, address, quarantine plan, symptoms if any. Kept going through and still no staff.

Got into the room with the kiosks, one person there just standing around. Filled out the basic customs kiosk questions, pic, then up to customs officer. Handed in the printout from kiosk, questionnaire, and form from Charlotte. She said she doesn't know why Charlotte does this, since they do not collect them, just a waste of time. Yep we knew it! She looked at our quarantine plan, asked if anyone else lives in our house, no, and if we had enough groceries. Did a huge shopping trip before we left so we're more than good. I asked her about driving our car around a bit since we were gone for 2 and a half weeks, she said yes, that's no problem, just stay in the car. I asked about going to get the mail from our community mailbox a half block away, she said that's fine too as long as no one else is there getting it at the same time. I told her I did not download the app since it was too unstable, and if I had to call in to the toll free number everyday. She said no, we don't need to report by phone or online. They may be calling us, as well as public health and/or province, but no requirement now for us to report anything if no symptoms unless they contact us.

Continued on building up my fitbit steps, got to final customs officer. There was a brown cardboard box where we just threw our quarantine form in, and handed in our kiosk printout.

On to baggage claim where we picked up our bags and were out.

Nowhere in yyz did anyone take our temperature. Nowhere in yyz did anyone ask about any symptoms. Nowhere in yyz was anyone to ask questions, other than the customs officer, which was well after the room to complete the quarantine questionnaire.

I know what Canada says about how they screen all arrivals, and how they're doing all they can to lessen the virus spreading, but my experience arriving at yyz in Terminal 3 around 10 pm Friday night did not back up their statement at all. This may change once they implement the new changes on November 21st, but we shall see.

Gee, I used to complain about two flights with reasonable layover at Pearson. Now it really takes a full day to travel to/from LAS, especially with added in connection(s) from Pearson. Reports have said more Covid cases have flown thru Pearson than any other airport in Canada. Your report tells us why. Glad you both got back safely, and thanks so much for sharing your experiences, such as they were!!!

It took a full day coming back due to the 3 hour time difference. We left Vegas at 10:04 am, which is 1:04 pm our time, but the approx 2.5 hours in Charlotte gave us time to eat and have a smoke without being rushed. Going there we left Toronto at 6:21 am, but getting into vegas around 1:30 pm vegas time gave us most of the day there. Doesn't really matter how long it takes to get back since quarantined for 2 weeks anyways!

Add on another two hour flight to and from Pearson, and for me, it becomes a full day!

Thanks for sharing your experience @jeanf ! I really appreciate it. Outside of a lack of proper screening in TO it sounds as though you didn’t have any issues coming back into Canada. This helps with my decision... I’m pretty sure I’m gonna go, definitely leaning that way, just waiting to see if they shut things down again in Vegas seeing as cases are going in the wrong direction. I hope things stable out a bit. Thanks again!
